one cannot give you a list of reasons why XBL is superior because its not.. XBL is a GREAT online service and has some features which PSN doesnt.. It has downloadable games & DLC which PSN doesnt... But same can be said for PSN, it has features which XBL doesnt offer, games & DLC available only via PSN etc etc..
Personally i find both services to be great but none of them outclasses the other... the only main difference is PSN = Free while XBL = $50 yearly..
Malta_1980
Those 50 bucks a year probably have something to do with it though. People tend to defend anything they paid for more fiercely.
Exactly... i play often online on both consoles and i really dont see much of a difference.. I mean i also play a couple of multiplats (COD4 & FIFA2009) which i own on both and trust me both perform exactly the same...
Probably people mix the fun they get from playing certain games (ie. Halo3, Geow2, L4D, Forza2 etc) on 360 or (R2, KZ2, GT5p,Warhawk,Socom etc) on PS3 and from there they come to the conclusion that X service is better than Y.. when in reality its not a matter of which service is better but which games on said system(s) offer great multiplayer modes..
Cause surely one cannot determine which service is better based on DLC or Downloadable titles, cause those are a matter of tastes in gaming.. XBL may have 10 downloadable games which dont interest me so that would mean nothing (same applies for PS3)..
XBL & PSN's main use is PLAYING ONLINE, so we have to compare the performance of both and imo both perform equally in that department.. So thats why i find PSN better cause it performes equally to XBL in its MAIN use but does that for NO EXTRA COSTS..
At release the extra cost was $200 for the PS3. I bought my Xbox 360 in 2006 & as previously stated have not paid more than $30 a year for Xbox Live. So with next year's $30, which I've already bought, I would pass that $200 mark. However this is over a 3 year span.[QUOTE="Malta_1980"][QUOTE="NielsNL"]

But you'll be using your 360 for more than 3 years right?
I'm not saying that its going to be cheaper am I? No I've just stated that in some purchase situations its easier to pay a small amount over a long period of time than to paid a lot one time. Same ideaology is applied to a lot of things, for example I may pay more interest with a 30 year mortgage, but will get a cheaper monthly payment.[QUOTE="NielsNL"]

But I'll say it for you then: it doesn't matter if you spread the payment over a stretch of time. Inthe end you'll be paying more for the 360 because of the paid online. But we're straying, this isn't what the thread's about.

I dont want to look like i'm saying PS3>360... am just passing my opinion on their online services.. Surely you make a point that its only after 3yrs of XBL fees that you managed to pass the $200 mark which is the difference in cost between PS3 & 360.. However i'd like to point out that for those $200 more for PS3 you also got WiFi, Blu-Ray player & some other cool multimedia functions..
Again this extra stuff is non related directly to gaming but when seeing the PS3 as a whole package for the money you pay i say 'its good value for money'..
Back on topic, the only reason i find PSN to be better than XBL is simply (as explained in previous posts) that both perform equally in their MAIN use which is playing online but PSN does that for no Extra cost giving it the edge..

Well your reason for my points to not matter contradict your point of cost giving PS3 an edge. So since PSN is free is has extra features?Shouldn't it be, all ps3 games with dedicated servers = best online experience. Warhawk owns you all.tirralirra
not all ps3 games have dedicated servers, only some exclusives do. xbox live is overall MUCH better then PSN

Humm...no

Care to explain what makes XBL so much better than PSN? Same question to fixer in the post below yours.
My point: No, those games dont make PS3 online service the best one. Thats only a matter of opinion
Fair enough.
Free = good.
crap=free...free=good.....crap=good? I love the transitive property...anyway, I understand that being free is a plus, but please dont use it to determine the quality of a product... Can you please elaborate? What is so *crap* about PSN?fat princess is over rated and if it was possible i would ask for my money back on it, had there been a demo i would never have wasted my money on that unbalanced game that feels like nothing you do affects the outcome of the match
it may as well be singe player for all the co-op you get from your mic-less teamates (how is it even possible to be on a team with over a dozen people and not one person have a mic? how? how???)
it was too easy also i picked it up started playing and never placed lower that 3rd place in the two or three dozen games i played before i realized i was wasting my time, prolly the only real fun i had was coming in 1st place on the board and getting to be the invincible "reaper" toon
bf43 has about 20% of the content but 1000% more fun and the feeling you made a difference and was not just spinning your wheels with a bunch of people that wanted to just run around the map and do their own thing
Even though I like Sony more than MS, I got to admit Live has better online =/mightychir
besides add content and early demos what does xbox live have that make it better onilne
and yes i know about cross chat
what does xbox live have that make actual online gameplay better?
is xbox live online gameplay better than psn if so i did not know hosting matches was better than playing on servers
i dont think online community is better because it dont matter what system u have when u look at the box it will always say
online experience not rated plus i saw a thread on xbox forum that was asking which game had the worst online community
and the choices were all top games (halo 3, gears 2 and cod 4)

i can give you an example of what makes gameplay better, bf43 shipped with broken chat so me and my friends just made and xbl party and we crushed everyone that got in our wayThe Party option makes XBL better for me. I have about 30 real life friends on my friends list. I love being able to talk to seven of them despite us playing different games. If none of my friends are online, I don't play. I need to talk to my friends when I play games, Idk why. However that does not justify paying $60(Canada). So in my mind XBL is better, but the better deal is PSN.I'd like to see the people that claim that XBL is so much better than PSN explain to me which groundbreaking features that XBL does have contrary to PSN make it so much better... Then I'd like to ask them if these ground breaking features are worth paying 50 bucks a year for.

there is nothing wrong with paying to get extra content
but just cause psn is free does not mean its crap
i never used any of the xbox live content and didnt care much for cross chat
all i care about is actual online gameplay but thats just me
there is nothing wrong with ur opinion and choice to pay for xbox live just like there is nothing wrong with my opinion of not wanting to pay just so i can get demos a week early
we are both getting what we want from our service and thats all that matters
[QUOTE="sSubZerOo"]lol no.. As a PS3 ownder, XBL for console online experience is pound for pound vastly superior to PSN..NielsNL
Which features make it so vastly superior then? Are these worth 50 bucks?
Firstly you can get a card for $35 at amazon.. Thats 13 months for less than $3.. Secondly, from my experience the UI is far better, its far more stream lined.. I HAD PROBLEMS IN RESIDENT EVIL 5 to get people how to join my game through friend invites.. Why? Because the genious of the PS3 system put it in completely different menu adding more confusion.. The Patches take for ever to download.. The vast majority of users actually have mics, while it seems like only a 3rd of the population for PSNhas it.. Street Fighter 4 playing on both versions is awful on the PSn compared to the XBL.. As a PS3 owner I can only wish I had something like XBL for the PS3.. For something thats less than $3 a month.. Thats chump change. Hell Marvel Ultimate Alliance DOESN'T even have mic support for multiplayer!..cross game voice chat is a important feature to me .I'd like to see the people that claim that XBL is so much better than PSN explain to me which groundbreaking features that XBL does have contrary to PSN make it so much better... cross game voice chat is a important feature to me . Hell its not just that, its far easier and more stream lined to make messages, voice messages.. My friend from what I have seen has never had problems downloading things from their network.. While the PS3 patching service can be completely awful where my friends and I have to restart the game a dozen or two dozen times just to get the patch to go through.. XBL is superior in every way.. This is coming from a PS3 ownder, PC gamer, and some one who has played quite a bit of time on the Xbox360.. I like the PS3 don't get me wrong, but their online is vastly inferior.[QUOTE="NielsNL"]

Thats chump change. Hell Marvel Ultimate Alliance DOESN'T even have mic support for multiplayer!..There are numerous games that are equal or better on PSN, especially the ones with dedicated servers. So specific games are no valid argument here. The mic density is because you get one with your 360, so that's not directly attributable to XBL itself. The UI being better is your opinion, one that I don't share I might add. I'll give you the slower downloading though. Cross party chat is a nice feature, but a browser beats it any day IMO. It's okay to prefer XBL though, but the reasons you mention hardly make it VASTLY superior like you claim. And PSN is free, like XBL should be too. It doesn't make sense to have to pay extra in order to be able to access all elements (online) from a game that you already paid for in the fist place. I would even say it's borderline illegal.
Services wise, not really, but for online games I really think PSN wins.
The shooter gere is easily won on the ps3. Theres warhawk, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, SOCOM and then upcoming Uncharted 2 and MAG.
Racing the ps3 has with GT5p right now, its not got customisation but 16 pkayers online racing is good.
For me at least the ps3 has better games online. Though both services get BF, BF1943 and COD4 so its great either way...
EDIT: Oh an LBP online!!!! Thats brilliant!
I think these topics should be banned. It's been discussed up the wazoo and people are going to only offer up their preference as the better choice. And as we all know here in System Wars, that isn't neccesarily a good thing.
It's gotten just as a bad as the classic "Which should I get, a PS3 or a 360?"

i think xbox live is superior because it lets u host games to make the max players for shooters 16 players
and psn sucks because it uses dedicated servers and really who wants to play 32 player matches when u can play 16 player matches
Wipeout HD + Fat Princess + LBP = epic win. Those who disagree haven't played the 3 games. And you can play flash games like left 4 dead (days2die) on it - http://digogames.com/view/29/Left-4-Dead---Free-Online-VersiontotallyplayingL4D on the 360 disagrees :|

only a handful of PSN games use dedicated servers.Does PSN have Netflix yet? To me that's the coolest part of Live...but honestly I think it a tad too expensive...especially considering the fact I am primarily a PC gamer who gets online VASTLY better than both systems for free.dnuggs40If you can stream Netflix on your PC, you can stream Netflix on your PS3 via the web browser.

Theres a similar sort of team based kindof thing with Resistance 2, except with 8 players. Perhaps, but it wouldn't matter for me, because I wouldn't ahve a full room full of RL friends, as I do on the 360. So that's where personal prefrence comes into play. Please Log In to post.
