Its "suppose" to be a game console, not a BD player that plays games. I could care less about its movie playback functions, I care about games from my "game" console.Nagidar
True. Then again, the world is evolving, and with it, gaming. I don't see a problem with all these new extra features, it's just more bang for your buck. The only thing i see that is arguable is people saying "The games aren't as good/not enough of them". I don't think that has anything to do with the PS3 having all this extra stuff, it's just of to a slow start, but honestly, it's doing ok and i'm seeing great potential in the future, especially with all the new games we are seeing.
The only thing 360 is missing is divx playback... the HD DVD is a superior format. HDMI is not needed, you can pick up better picture vis VGA and DVI with analog audio for the dolbyHD.. to bad its not included in the platform. There really isnt any doubting that the ps3 is a steal and is "too cheap" however from a marketing stand point, add ons and options, while they may cost more in the long run are a better business decision.Â
Â
In stand alone sales, HD DVD is way out in front...the statistics being talked about now are irrelevant lol BD sells 3 to 1 and almost 95% of the purchases are from ps3 owners who just happen to have a PS3... due you think an insignificant 10 million blu ray instal base via the ps3 over the next year will even be a drop in the bucket compared to when players drop under $200? The sales are so low that group buys are messing up the top HD sales lists.... so the whole next gen media war hasnt really even started yet in the eyes of the consumer.
lemmings will bash all this extra content added to games and say its not needed. it may not be needed but i sure do WANT it. i want all the EXTRAS e20Dylan
Extra isn't always good. I like my things slim & trim. :D
Of course, I mean when you hype firmware updates for movie viewing pleasures, how can it not be?
Frankly, I'm being rude and blunt I know, I'm just saying it's true though... PS3 fans hype too much on the system's media functionality, that's fine and all, it just does nothing for me.
[QUOTE="Evo310whp"]so people are buying consoles for movies instead of games now....sigh

There you go, prime example of what i mean. Pure ignorance and damage control.

How exactly is that DC? He made a point, game consoles priority should be playing games, when most of the focus on a game console is the multimedia features, theres something wrong. Game first, everything else is a bonus.

Thank you. For me my priority with a console any console is games and playing games. I dont buy consoles for perk lil bragging right features like bluray or online browsers or whatever. If I am interested in features like that (which i am not) that would be just a bonus thats not the reason I buy the console. Whatever maybe I am weird I dont know when people got all caught up with new media formats and all this.

Yeah, when I was trying to choose between a PS3 & Xbox 360 such extras meant nothing within my own debate. It was just Price, Games, & Online Gaming.  Â

Thats pretty much how it was for me and I am mostly a PS2 type of person. To tell you the truth I really didnt like the 360 at first I thought it would  just be like the first xbox and only have halo you know. After following the PS3 as long as I did and seeing where Sony was going with it I just lost interest more and more and the games that were coming out did nothing to get me interested either. Bluray , online browsers all this stuff just didnt interest me and I wish they could of just left perk features like that out.
I went with the 360 because it focused I think alil more on gaming and online gaming than the PS3 and just had more games that I was interested in;it just wasnt halo 3. Sony puts too much effort in pushing bluray and appealing to audio/videophiles in my opinion I just dont like it but thats me. I stick with my 360, PS2 and maybe get the wii later down the road. If I miss out on games like MGS,Tekken, FFXIII then so be it.

Yeah, we both went the same way. I was most afraid of the difference in the controller. Being so used to the PS2 controller when I tried the original Xbox's controller I was disgusted, absolutely hated it. I seen they had changed it for the 360, but was still afraid of not being able to adjust to something different. I was surprised at how quickly I did, & now like the Xbox 360's controller way better than I ever did on the Playstation.Â
