Not really. 360 is the top dog there.
error_202
well wii is really. the 360 has sold more than the ps3, although i'm not sure if it's still selling more. for as little as £90 for the 360 arcade i'd presume it is selling more than a £299 console.
with a price drop people would go ps3 though, we are definitely a playstation country.

I cant remember the article exactly but i remember reading the 360 has been outselling the Wii ever since it had a price increase. But if you meant overall sales then yeah.
Il go look for it now.

yeah i did mean overall, but i didn't know the 360 had been outselling it, that's impressive. i think the wii may get a price cut if they are losing momentum everywhere.[QUOTE="sikanderahmed"]yes it is, you don't live in the UK do you?xbox is not as famous as playstation brand in uk...so ofcourseps3 would be on top

You're confusing brands with products. Not many of the people I know own PS3's because of the cost. However, a LOT of them own PS2's. And they owned Playstations the gen before. And I'm responding to your comment to Sikanderahmed. You said that Xbox is as famous as Playstation brand in the UK, which, in my opinion, and probably a lot more of the UK, is utter trite. There is absolutely no way, you can tell me, that Xbox, a name that has only really been paid much attention to this gen, is as famous as Playstation which has been relevant in the UK since... 1995? Like I said, I replied to your comment made about Sik's reply. I don't care what the thread title says, I replied to you, not the thread.
"Xbox" is the new "Playstation", just how "Playstation" became the new "Nintendo". Watch enough TV and you'll notice this.
They mention "Xbox", and in those government adverts to reduce wasting energy, what do they show? A 360 controller, not Dualshock. Proof right there.
]you missed my point completely, i never said the xbox brand was more famous than the playstation brand, i said the XBOX 360 is more POPULAR than the ps3, show me where i said it was more famous? delta3074This is what you said, make sure you note Sik's wording, and your own reply.
[QUOTE="sikanderahmed"]yes it is, you don't live in the UK do you? There you go. That's where you said Xbox brand is as famous as Playstation brand in the UK. the Playstation brand is HUGE. in the UK.
but the console is expensive, most people dont know what BluRay is- & lots of people still do not have HDTVs.
I know that everyone used to have a PS2- a few guys have bought PS3s (one then got a xbox360 afterwards) because they were familiar with the Playstation brand and had a PS2.
a lot of people have switched over to Xbox 360 however.
Xbox 360 launched in late 2005 in the UK but PS3 didnt launch until early 2007. this gave Microosft the advantage- plus the lower pricepoint has been decisive.
yeah microsoft have done an impressive job this gen. i remember at the beginning of the gen, most people i knew wanted a ps3, and said don't get a 360 wait for the ps3. as soon as the price was revealed the ps3 just lost everything, and people went for 360 and wii. it was strange because i thought the ps3 would walk this gen, but they got pretty much everything wrong at launch."Xbox" is the new "Playstation", just how "Playstation" became the new "Nintendo". Northampton has a population of 190,000. I find it hard to believe you know 90% of the people who live there.

More people own 360 in the uk but in Southend (its near London) where i live there's a decent amount of people who own ps3 to.
Also if there is a price drop I know loads of people who would go out and by a ps3.

my family has been here (in northampton) since the 1400's dude, my ancestor sir thomas samwell was the first baronet for northamptonshire, my family used to own a place called upton hall, but that's beside the point, you should come to northampton, everyone knows everyone else here, especially on the eastern district where i live, we all get on really well, you don't see hardly any knife or gun crime here, lots of fist fighting, but that's usually as far as it goes, it's a slow paced chilled out town, it's a really small world here, can be a bonus, can be a curse, but i can see why my family never left, i don't plan on ever living anywhere else, maybe 90% was a bit off, but you come to the eastern district and ask anyone if they know rob samwell, i guarantee they will know who you are talking about.[QUOTE="Next-Gen-Tec"]yeah microsoft have done an impressive job this gen. i remember at the beginning of the gen, most people i knew wanted a ps3, and said don't get a 360 wait for the ps3. as soon as the price was revealed the ps3 just lost everything, and people went for 360 and wii. it was strange because i thought the ps3 would walk this gen, but they got pretty much everything wrong at launch. it was there for Sony to lose but the delay & price point has lost it for them. the PS1 and PS2 destroyed the competition in the UK but even the HUGE BRAND POWER that the Playstation name has failed to alter the problem of price. Sony didnt learn from others mistakes. Nintendo launched the N64 late and it was expensive. Microsoft launched the Xbox late and it was expensive. both consoles ended up losing. Sony tried copying the success of the PS2 but failed. BluRay is not as well known as DVD was in 2000. DVD was a huge factor in PS2 sales. BluRAY requires HDTV, DVD worked on any old tv. The Sony hype machine at E3 2005 repeated many of the tricks used at E3 1999, but ultimately Microsoft is a Giant that has invested heavily in Marketing and stealing PS3 exclusives. SEGA did not invest much in marketing the Dreamcast which was killed by the HUGE PS2 HYPEMACHINE. back in 2000 everyone I knew wanted a PS2. THIS time round in 05/06 a lot of people talked about getting a PS3 but ended up going for the more affordable X360."Xbox" is the new "Playstation", just how "Playstation" became the new "Nintendo". Just pointing out that 90% of 190,000 is still over 170,000 people and that is an insane number. I've passed through Northampton a few times. Had a few beers there too but that was 15-20 years ago.

Well how do you measure peoples' perception of brand name?? You're talking about something that cannot be measured and is highly subjective. Sales represent consumer awareness of a product and the fact 360 is selling more is a clear indication of where consumer preferences are.
Its like which brand of trainers (sneakers to you yanks) has the more popular brand name...well its easy, which brand name sells the most.
The only way you could claim the playstation brand is more popular in the UK, without using sales figures would be to do a consumer survey. Unless you've got something to back up your claims, you can't make them!!

i guess the only thing you can do is use sales. if you combine psp, ps2 and ps3 sales then it is still bigger than the xbox brand.
you can factor in a few other things too like history, and as you say customer awareness. a small shoe company might outsell nike or adidas but people will still say nike are the most popular regardless. it does get subjective at that point, but if you ask anyone who is the bigger club out of newcastle or inter milan they will all say inter milan despite newcastle having better attendance at games.

OK by including the psp, ps2 and ps3, atleast you're backing up your claims, many were just stating the 'playstation' brand was bigger with no reason to back it up. Atleast now it can be argued the playstation brand is bigger because it has more games products etc. You see my point?
