I own both a ps3 and a xbox, and i have never had any problems with psn's speed. sure the occasional lag. but i also get that on xbox, even more frequently on mw2. so whats the deal? maybe its your router or internet speeds. or is it the xbox fans that have tried ps3 network 3 years ago that are still saying that it' s weak now. I honestly have no problem with both networks and they seem to work fast and consistent in my opinion. I'm not a fanboy, i actually came to prefer xbox over the ps3, but i just dont understand the whole fuzz about its network. Anyone with me?

PSN is just slow when downloading demos and updates. It's a pain in the rear to watch a 350MB file take 15-20mins to download on PSN and they have to wait another 5-10 mins for it to install as well. With XBL, you can download the same file in about 10mins or less and it doesn't have to do an install. The PSN updates for the PS3 are even worse. I still haven't update my PS3 with the latest version, after all the problems it cause. I'm going to wait a few more weeks and then try it. I also like XBL interface system better then PSN as well. Does anyone still use HOME? What a waste of time.

Yes, i wanted to download the LP2 demo? and it was like 300MB and it took like 10 min! while a 1Gig on the 360 doesn't even take that long.

Once a YEAR, me and 25 million other XBL members gladly shell out $50. No justification is needed. We got the COD maps way before you right? I talk to my friends while im gaming no matter what we're playing. My online network is integrated into my console and all my games. My downloads are at least twice as fast. The level of competition on XBL is a higher standard than PSN. My netflix has never stopped mid-movie to buffer. XBL is leading the way. Ill give PSN credit, theyre only about a year behind, but they will always be that 1 year behind for the foreseeable future. Ya we pay, but its not even an inconvenience as its automatically charged to my card. ill gladly take my girlfriend out one less night per year to enjoy a better service year round

I dont know if i'm correct, but to my knowledge my internet speeds are 12mb? i live in the netherlands and have a 30mb connection, but apparently a online connection test tells me i use 12mb for downloading and 2mb for uploading, whatever i dont know. So maybe it really is your internet

Also its about 40$ a year and if you cant pay 40$ a year! then you need to get off your ass and get a job.

It's not a ripoff if you have friends on XBL. You get Party chat, private chat, cross game invites, faster downloads for demos and updates, custom in-game music, early DLC (like GTA episodes, MW2 maps etc.), than daily strategy gaming videos from IGN/OXM , also the whole layout of XBL is way better than PSN.

I have both systems. They work about the same. PSN is a little slower with downloads and updates, and communication is not as good on PSN. In some respects psn can hang with Live, but the overall experience seems a bit disconnected or lonely on psn.

Downloads are slow, get most demos later, not many use mics, not a huge community on certain games that should be much bigger, yep, PSN is worse than Xbox Live.

Sounds like a bunch of opinions to me. You could just as easily say that it's a bonus PS3 users don't have mics, because let's be honest...who wants to listen to a bunch of screaming XBL kids?

My only problem with PSN is that it's less of a service. Less games on demand, less arcade games, less demos and an overall more jumbled interface. The online works fine in my opinion though.

Or how about people who communicate in team based games, like Socom, Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, the list goes on.

It has nothing to do with ability to pay...It has to do with me and many others not willing to pay. I will never, ever pay for playing random games online when I've paid 60 dollars for a game like BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2, where I paid the developers to put it in the game. I will not pay TWICE on general principle....never.

1. Please don't brag about being first in line to have ACTIVISION fleece you out of your $15. That really is nothing to be bragging about. If anything, that should be thought of as being an embarassment. An embarrasment that XBOX fans are thought of as willing cash cows whereas the PS3 userbase is thought of as more sensible.

2. The only moderate, to major feature that XBOX LIVE has over PSN is CROSS GAME CHAT + Voice messaging, and 1 of those features is pointless to most PSN users. Why the heck do I want to talk to a hoard of other people that I'm not playing when I'm having an intense game against someone in MLB THE SHOW or GTA Online or BFBC2? Why? That seems like some teenage-teeny bopper feature that more mature PS3/PSN users will almost never use. Now...the Voice messaging system...that's a cool feature that I will admit to being cool and useful.

But like I said before in another topic, PS3/PSN more than makes up for both of those features with the ability to create and have 5 separate game playing accounts for FREE. It's a rip off tactic as well as a crying shame that Microsoft trys to make you pay for each playable account/profile. I'll gladly take that over talking to a whole bunch of teenagers...thanks...but no thanks.

Best thing about PSN is that most PS3 exclusives have dedicated servers, because it doesn't touch Xbox Live in certain areas.

Live is actually really weak, pay to play, everything costs money, horrid community of preteen mlg leet god racists, or on a good day silent town cause everyone is in party chat, it's major games don't even have dedicated servers, it's teh fail. PSN is fast free and awesome, better community too imo.

probably because you can't. play mw2, halo 3, or gears 2 without going into party chat and with your mic turned on. prepare to have bleeding ears. toggle mute isn't becoming standard in these games without good reason.

I've used both and to me they're pretty much the same thing one of them you pay $50 for some extra features and if these features are worth the $50 to you then you pay per year you use it. To me it isn't, I just let my live run out because of that, so I just play online console games on my PS3.

Let me pin this up to make things more funnier :) by paying Live, you partly pay for something that is free to any device connected to internet

I love when thay say how those are part of Live ^^ it's good laugh

It isn't the online gameplay and downloads as such, it's its interface and interaction that sets them apart.

I own a Playstation number 3, the almighty Xbox 360, a Wii, I have two High Definition 1080p resolution televisions side by side and I have the best Internet connection speed money can buy and boy let me tell you, the Playstation Network is so so slow that it makes me cringe and grow a single grey hair every time I download something on that free service. Microsoft are masters of networking code telepathic technology and the Xbox LIVE delivers faster download speeds of content the human retina could not even follow. With that said, hell to the yes the Playstation Network is the weakest compared to the almighty Xbox LIVE, in my personal educated reality of opinions.

It's their internet and the fact that they have both systems on their network, and one is probably not getting priority. You'll have the same problem with two of the same console if you don't have your network set up right.

My favorite thing to hear 360 fans say is that they can d'l a 2 gig game/demo/video in 5-10 min, but on ps3 it takes at least 24 hours.

i agree. its so weak i cant sign in or get signed out half the time, everytimei get a chance to play. not sure if its a cheaper bluetooth they put in slims or my wireless router dieing. but the last 2 months have been really bad. but i never have problems with my 360 signing in online. so its gotta be my ps3.

Wifi not Bluetooth :P

And PS3 don't have outside anthena for WiFi, so it might be the reason. Only tips i can give you is:

1. Try to get PS3 some place with more free space

2. Use cable instead

Well you can upgrade your 360 with the newest fastest N+ wifi connection while you can't upgrade your PS3 wifi at all, so I guess you can say the 360 can be faster.

Sure it can.

You can go out and buy an N brige adapter for the PS3...a nice quality brand one..any one you want.

I'm not sure if you can do that for the XBOX 360 or not.

Still Wifi is built in the PS3...XBOX 360 is not...end of story.

yeah, let's all argue. that will surely discourage threads such as these in the future.

This thread again? What is this, like, the MILLIONTH thread on this subject?

I'm not gonna lie, I'm a PS3 only owner. But I've played extensively on PSN and quite a bit on XBL. My thoughts? Both services have their pros and cons. Some may see less mics on PSN as a con while others find the absence of the stereotypical online gamers yelling in your ear to be good. I think a lot of that depends on the game. I've met jackasses on Left 4 Dead just as well as Uncharted 2. Stupid people exist EVERYWHERE, and in droves.

Connectivity for gaming itself seems to be on par. Though I will say that XBL seems to be a bigger bandwidth hog in my experience. I always hear about the XBL UI being more user friendly, but I find it kind of awkwardly organized compared to the XMB. I'm sure the Dashboard is a godsend to those that use it frequently, I just find it a little strangely put together is all.

Why is it that you pay for Live and then still have to pay for themes, but i can go on PSN and get lots of themes for free and they look better than the ones you pay for on Live?

If we're not paying to play on Live then how is the $40 justifiable for features that pc gamers can enjoy for free?

[QUOTE="KevinButlerVP"]Its just the lems trying to justify what they pay every monthshadow8585

Edit: spelling

No in fact it's almost identical to Xbox Live except you're not paying for it.

PS3 fanboys moan about the price of XBL that is all.. Xbox fanboys moan about a lot of the features in comparison... Probably something to do with that.

I admit to having a bias that favors the PS3....but the PRICE of XBOX LIVE isn't what I abhor....it's having to pay at all.

It makes absolutely no sense to me at all. I paid $60 for BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2 primarilly for the MULTIPLAYER....Dice put that feature in to work by default. Why do I have to pay again? Why?

XBOX LIVE is a rip off and I will never buy a subscription to play random games online....never, and it isn't price, its general principle.

Is Xbox Live is better than PSN? Yes.

Is it $30+ better than PSN? Depends. I personally don't think so.
