over the long term PS3 is a better "bargain"....anyone that tells you otherwise is kidding themselves.
PS3 = $499 with 80GB HD, WiFi, Blu-Ray, DualShock 3, Re-Charge Cable, Free Online Play, Metal Gear Solid 4......
360 = $349 with 20GB HD, No WiFi, No Blu-Ray, No Play & Charge Kit, No Xbox Live......
360 addons: 120GB HD - $180, Wifi - $100, Blu-Ray - Not Available, Play & Charge Kit - $20, Xbox Live - $50 / Year for the life of the system
I still haven't upgraded to a 'next-gen' system (I know, I'm slow), and I've saved up some money; enough to buy either an Xbox 360 or a PS3 (I'm not interested in a Wii). I've done some research, and it seems like the 360 has had the best games and is the least expensive console of the two, but if I want to use Wi Fi and Xbox Live I have to pay another $150 for the components, which is basically a PS3. I can take advantage of Wi Fi, and so now I;m thinking about the PS3 since it just got a new MGS4 bundle. Which console do you guys think is best for a budget gamer. I really want to play online with my friends (half of my buddies has a PS3, the other half has a 360). None-biased answers please.Lord__Darkstorn
360 without a doubt. Huge, punishing back catalogue of cheap, good next gen games that the PS3 simply does not have. More used games than you'll know what to do with that again, the PS3 doesn't have.
once again someone tells you to buy a system. big surprise! dont listen to these fanboys. Look at the games. Both are the same price. The PS3 has higher cost on accessories. So they even out enough that you should just care which has the games you want to play. Yes the PS3 has some great features. So does the 360. What genre do you like?over the long term PS3 is a better "bargain"....anyone that tells you otherwise is kidding themselves.

How is PS3 high Cost in accessories.....did you even see what I just said?
You can pick up a used 360 for like $220 and get a full warranty on it for like another $20. So you've got 240. Buy a used control, yer at $250. Half the price of the PS3. $50 for live (i do 20 for 4 months since I don't play during the summer months online) and you are still 200 behind the cost of the PS3. $200 more on games. $200 more on hapiness.usmcjdk6
Wow...intelligent. Key word: USED. I can go get a used 2005 Audi A4 that will be much cheaper than a new 2007 Audi A4 ......this makes TONS of sense.

Why buy a used 360 and risk getting RRoD, when you can just buy the Arcade for $275, but buying the add ons make it more expensive than the PS3.

why do you guys think every person who buys a 360 will buy all those add-on's?OK. I appreciate the comments. I had an Xbox last gen and I've already beat Halo 3, Mass Effect, and GoW at a friend's house (I spend a lot of time there ), but I heard that the 360 has cheaper used games as well. Also, it's worth mentioning that I don't have an HDTV and don;t intend to get one, so I can't take advantage of Blu-Ray.
I guess my favorite genres are fighting (Soul Calibur IV looks SWEET), Shooters, and RPGs. Which system is better for those genres?
When I see "BUDGET gamer" I automatically think of budget bin games. And since the 360 have the largest library of games, it will have the largest library of budget bin games.

Not to mention other CONVENIENCES such as play & charge kit.......do you want him to buy new batteries every week?
A "budget" gamer? The PS2 is the way to go if you are on a tight budget. The "next-gen" consoles don't offer a wide enough variety or large enough library of games yet if you are on a tight budget. The PS2 is not only cheap but has a massive library of all relatively cheap games (some earlier releases are becoming rare and going up in price, i.e. Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner) and you will not only be getting a great console but access to tons of games that are in most cases, still better than most games released for "next-gen" so far.
If you already have a PS2 then the Gamecube would be the next best choice... but games for that are becoming incredibly difficult to find.foxhound_fox
Yeah but the main thing is to play online with my $ rich $ friends, and they all have next gen systems. That's my dilemma.

in shooters I say they are the same, fighting I say PS3, RPGs 360 also but not any real great ones. Just get a 360.

wow where did you get your information? 120gb for 180?!!!! wow. play and charge is 10.
i'd go with a 360 if you're looking for budget. came out in 05 so it has plenty of older great games you can find in the $20 bin.

Buying a used 360 isn't a good deal anywhere. Buying a used/refurbished PS3 in most cases would be fairly safe. Also if the TC can get the 80 gig bundle then he could play many of the PS2 games between waiting for something that he wants or to save some cash for PS3 games later. The nice thing is everything needed to play on-line is rite there in the system without going out and buying any add-ons like wifi or wireless controller with a charge kit or a few boxes of batteries.

And if he can get the 80 gig there are a ton of PS2 games that can be had for around $5.00 sometimes less that are very good. The last time I checked I think there was about 2700 titles on the PS2 and there still some games being released now.

wth are you talking about. the 360 hasmore shooters and a larger community for onliune play and everyone has a headset. fighters are better on 360 seeing how the highest rated ones are on 360 and 360 runs rpgs aswell.

360 and it's not even close. Albeit fighting games perform marginally better on the PS3 due to the better DPad.
going with a ethernet cable for your 360 would cut that price to get online quite a bit (and TBQH, i think is the best option)
go with the one that has more games that you like, the fact that ps3 has free online and that dosen't hurt though
Which ever you think would be better for you.
First off all consider what would look better in the room you plan to put it in. Would a sleeker black Xbox 360 look nice in your room of choice, or a slightly bulging PS3 look better?
Do you want to be able to watch able to watch DVDs of the future? If so, go with the PS3, but the Xbox has wins in other areas.
If you're looking for reliability, go after the PS3 again. (I have gone through [4] 360's,) [The first three RRODed me and the last one seems to not like to turn on for some reason.]
If you're looking for a wider availability of games NOW, go with the Xbox 360. If your looking for a wider variety of games in the future, go for the PS3.
If you're looking for fustrating Six-Axis controls, go after the PS3.
If you're looking for more customization on the outside, go with the Xbox360. More customization on screen? PS3. (I must be pretty stupid because I can't find ways to customize my Xbox360 on screen).
If you're looking forward to HOME, then go for the PS3. However, I'd bet Microsoft has something similar to HOME in the works.
Look at some games that are coming out within the next 6 months or so. I personally like the looks of LittleBigPlanet compared to some of the more violent hyped up games that the Xbox360 seems to be boasting about.
I considered most of these things, and I got both. However, I lean towards the PS3 more. It's just a personal preference.

I don't know what you mean by budget gamer.
PS3
They are improving the PSN
More Reliable
Great Line-Up of Games Coming Out
MGS4
Free Online
Free WiFi
No Need for an extra charger
Blu-Ray if your interested
We do have FFXIII and Versus coming out...along with resistance, you can get MGS 4 and socom confrontation there is also Killzone 2 coming out in the begining of 09.
PS3 is the best value for a budget gamer
-supports industry standard accessories and upgrades, X360 uses proprietary equipment
-Free Online vs $50/ year with X360
-More value for the money with PS3. extras are included standard (Blu-ray, wifi, HDMI 1.3, quality)
-Controllers rechargeable right out of the box, not so on X360 that's an upgrade
-Sonys history and committment to a long console life.
depends whether you prefer having the 360's or ps3 exclusives
honestly i'd say ps3 because as an added benefit you don't have to worry about hardware failure after 3 years of use.
Okay, I still can't decide, but I'll see if I can get ahold of one of those MGS4 bundles, just in case...
Thanks for the info, guys, and more opinions would be appreciated.

Then I will get the ps3 because most of the fighting games are multiplat except tekken 6, shooters are about equal, The 360 has more rpgs but if your a fan of great jrpg series like FF then get the ps3.The Xbox360 still is great I play my friends.
Which console you have more friends on is the one to get nothing like playing cod4 with lots of people.
PS3 games are expensive, about $60, compared to the 360's $50. PC games are $40, and online play is usually free.
If the 360 has more games you like then the choice is clear. Better to not buy games because you can't aford them anymore, than to not buy games because their is nothing to play. Regardless you can rent games, which is cheaper in the long run.
