[QUOTE="fiscope"]PS3 games are expensive, about $60, compared to the 360's $50. PC games are $40, and online play is usually free.
If the 360 has more games you like then the choice is clear. Better to not buy games because you can't aford them anymore, than to not buy games because their is nothing to play. Regardless you can rent games, which is cheaper in the long run.
Uptown
you must live on another planet because 360 games are $59.99 as well.
For real? This is news to me, I always thought the PS3 games were more, at least that's what I saw in the stores I went to.In that case, the PS3 is a much better deal.. :]
To the OP:
You said you wanted to play with your friends online earlier, but what console do they have? If the all have or are planning on getting an Xbox 360 then I'd advise you to buy an Xbox 360. The same goes for the other way around.
Also, for shooters the systems are both stacked full with them, and the 08-09 lineup for shooters look good on both consoles to be honest. But in my own personal opinion I prefer the 360's lineup.
For fighting games I can't really help you there since I'm not a big fan of those and I don't follow the latest news about them.
As for RPG's it depends, do you prefer Japanses styled RPGs or Western styled RPGs. The 360 has (IMO) a stronger lineup as of now, and from what I've seen both types of RPGs are gonna have a great 08-09 on the Xbox 360.
But what you should really do is wait about 1 month, cause E3 is just around the corner, and all the big games that the companies ahve been hiding will be announced and then you will be able to make a more enlightened choice about which console to buy yourself.

as a xbox 360 fan
i recommend you a ps3.
i hope MS dies
with their sucky hardware.
only if all those great games were on ps3...
but get the ps3
free online and the hardware last longer then 6 months..

You sir are aoxymoron! By the way go with the 360.
one great thing about the 360 that people don't seem to be mentioning is that alot of their games have been out for while and can be bought for 30-40$ where as every PS3 game worth a crap is 50-60$
Mass Effect - 40$
Bioshock - 40$
Gears - 40$(at some stores)
Halo 3 - 40$(at some stores)
Dead Rising - 30$

By that if it's a 20, 60, or 80 gig PS3 there is more PS2 titles that can be played on the system that cost anywhere from a couple of bucks and up. Then there is a few PS3 games that have dropped in price as well along with a bunch of inexpensive games that can be downloaded from PSN and there are the demos that can be downloaded and played that are also free to try out.
I have a 360, and it is a pain in the butt that you have to pay so much extra for a wireless adaptor. I really resented that especially as i bought an Elite (which wasn't really so Elite). I think it depends three factors:
a) what games you want to play now and over the next year
b) what consoles your friends own (so you can play them online)
c) prefered controller (I like the XBox but again you need to buy extras, either batteries or a charge kit, to keep them fueled, while I think the PS3 comes with a means to charge it via USB, but I'm not sure)
When i got my 360 (about 2 months ago) i just really, really wanted to play Halo 3 and 3 of my friends had the machine compared to one PS3 owner. I am really chuffed with the machine but there are a few drawbacks:
1. It's a noisy beast (I think it's a lot louder than the PS3)
2. You pay for online play (I don't mind this as you get a good service though others think it's unfair, there's a thread in the forum which goes into this in a lot more detail
3. No Blu-ray (again maybe not a big point for gamers but the PS3 Blu-ray does look sweeeeeeeeeet on a nice TV, and when you consider the price of the XBox and PS3 the PS3 does look like better value)
4. Oh yea and the red ring of death! Touch wood, it hasn't happened to me but I can imagine that it's a right pain in the butt.
Saying that 360 has more killer games than the PS3, especially if you like big, violent action games. And getting those old arcade games off Live for a handful of coins is sweet. And the achievement points seem to be better integrated in XBox games. But then again in a years time the PS3 might just be hitting it's stride and while the XBox could be showing signs of aging. I'm not an XBox fanboy and I hope I've been fair: was a Nintendo fan boy until they released the extremely uninspiring Wii. Load of Toss, unless your a girl. Anyway, whichever one you get, enjoy!

[QUOTE="360-ps3-wii-pc"][QUOTE="Uptown"]once again someone tells you to buy a system. big surprise! dont listen to these fanboys. Look at the games. Both are the same price. The PS3 has higher cost on accessories. So they even out enough that you should just care which has the games you want to play. Yes the PS3 has some great features. So does the 360. What genre do you like?Uptown
How is PS3 high Cost in accessories.....did you even see what I just said?
yes I did. So what?He just proved the ps3 is not high in cost when it comes to accessories...either you can't read or you have some sort of mental handicap.
