And is it essential to have a plasma or HDTV for you to really see the difference from ps2 and xbox to these new machines?

HDTV does make a lot of difference I just bought one! I would now go for a PS3 40GB, worth the price and good games are finally going to be released.

I'm the same as you in that I've always stuck with playstation over other systems. Again this time I went with playstation and got a PS3 a few months ago. I hardly ever play it. I own warhawk and oblivion and I've put about 4 hours into each and that's all. I can't help noticing all the games on 360 with awesome online stuff, like the racing games with cool online features. I think I'd probably play more if I owned a 360. Still, for me a ps3 is kinda necessary because of MGS4 and final fantasy. Other than those, I'd say Xbox360 this time around.

I would definitely recommend the 360 if you like a wide variety of games! Also, you would be amazed what these new consoles can do with a HDTV.

Oh please don't start with non sense. 360 is not more powerful than the PS3. Both systems are powerful and they have completely different architechture. We don't know which is more powerful yet so don't start this crap. Only time will tell. The recent game releases on both platforms are the same and some games are better on the PS3, i.e. Dirt!!

Anyway, to answer the TC question, I would say it will depend on what you want to play and what type of games you like and what you're looking for to get out of your system. The PS3's library isn't as good as the 360's RIGHT NOW, but that will change in the future. The PS3's line up for 2008 is nothing but amazing (early 2008 actually) and this holiday season we're getting some very good games as well. I don't want to sound bias, so in that sense I will just tell you why I bought a PS3. I bought mine solely for the back compatibility and for Gran Turismo 5. Obviously if you have been around you would know that the 60GB model is your best choice for that, and that's what I have. A lot of good games are coming our way starting this holiday season and carrying to all of 2008. Also, I love the BR movies. I definitely think the PS3 is the best bang for the buck as the 360 has a lot of hidden costs (100 dollars extra for wifi, 179 dollars for an add-on HD-DVD, batteries for controllers..etc) the PS3 plays Blu-Ray movies right out of the box and has built-in wireless (it's important for me personally to have this feature, so if I owned a 360, I would have to spend the extra 100 dollars) and the controllers have rechargable batteries. Also, don't forget that the 360 has RROD problem and is likely to see the shop sometime in its life time (3 year warranty only covers RROD problem and not other problems the 360 has like its DVD drive and others. To be fair though, I know a couple of people that have not had any problems, but RROD is a big problem costing M$ big dollars). All these reasons put together = PS3 for me.

the 360 can do anything ps3 can do but better....the texture update for oblivion goty proves it now while the ps3 version use to have a better shader distance but flater textures then the 360 version. now the 360 version enjoys both the incresed shader distance and superior texture maps...

Xbox 360 this year and the PS3 next year. It's a win-win situation if you do it this way.

id say wait for the 40 gig and get that. to be honest if PS3 came out closer to when the 360 did that would be the only console i would own, for the same reason that i have always been strictly Playstation. If you can tho get 360 in the future because its also great.

Listen, I don't who you are and what you do, but GS said that Oblivion had better graphics on the PS3 than the 360 and so as Dirt. Yes, I have heard the textures argument and that's pretty much all you can come up with to prove that the 360 is more powerful??? Please, we have yet to see anything on the 360 that can run so many things on the screen as the PS3 does with Heavenly Sword for example. If you're going to say that the 360 has better textures, then it's very easy as well to say that the PS3's processor is more powerful and can handle more stuff on the screen at the sametime. Now, it is possible that the 360 can do better textures, but that definitely does not make it a better system!! Also, as far as textures go, I am pretty sure that the PS3 does just fine so it's like the 360 is blowing it completely out of the water in that category and given more time the developers will be able to take more advantage of its architecture and the operating system will shrink some more, so the texture argument is just lame right now. We don't know what the system can do because the graphics are not solely dependent on the graphic card (Cell produces graphics too) and the System has not been out a full year yet, so give it sometime, will you?

i hear what ur saying man but its hard to argue that the cell is better when most devlopers hate it. it may be more powerful but if no one can use it that well it renders it useless... but i hear you im sure that in a year i might be eating my words but till then we will see. plus ill take a better gpu over cpu anyday

Derr... i don't really buy this whole "bigger game library" statement. Here's why!

While yes, there are more "games" for the 360 right now... i hardly consider Sneak King, Pimp My Ride, Amped 3, Earth Defense Force 2017, Shadowrun,Bullet Witch, and a number of other "games" out... well, i don't consider them games really. I mean, this is kind of a straw man argument. I also don't care for a number of their big name titles, blue dragon and crackdown to name a few... however, this is just one mans opinion. Anyway... the hardware potential is virtually identical. The features andoverall valueare heavily sided towards the PS3. Here's why!

The PS3 has: HD Media player, Rumble/Motion Controller, great games already released withevery one of the PS games you loved getting anext-gen makeover...some of, if not,the best known franchises in gaming history actually (final fantasy, metal gear, and gran turismo). Also, there areplenty of new, very good looking and very promisingtitles/franchises both released and coming. Free online services (with FREE "achievements" and "gaming scores" coming), and oh yeah.... more than 75% of the consoles DON'T BREAK! This will all comewith a bigger, 40 gbharddrive and alower price than the PREMIUM 360 (after live subscription(s) and a charge kit).

All that being said/true: It really depends on the franchises you've come to like. If you're a forza, fable, splinter cell, DOA, Halo guy and don'town an HDTV, you shouldobviously buya 360. If you're a Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Tekken, Killzone guy and you own an HDTV...PS3, no question. If you're in the middle of all that, well...considering most 360 "exclusives" are, or will be availabe for the PC, and most of the "killer apps" will be on both consoles (and the PC)... you should really just get a gaming PC lol.

It's your decision, but if you can only buy one console... i really can't see ANY reason, ANYONE, would buy a 360 over the PS3, especially after November.

This argument comes up almost daily now, to point where everyone should know that Kameo (a launch title), indeed proved the 360 was capable of this.

Developers hate it because it's harder to program for it right now, but Sony is helping a lot these days, so it should be better. I am a developer myself (C#.net), and if they told me to go back and program in Assembly Language, I would be very pissed. Sony just has to make it easier for developers to program on their plateform which they are doing. they paid EPIC $$$ to optimize the Unreal engine for the cell and they are going door to door to help other companies...etc. As for a better GPU vs CPU, the PS3 is very capable in terms of graphics, so again you can't speculate. Also, check this article on how powerful the Cell processor is LINK, It's a very powerful piece of hardware..

I have never seen Kameo or played it, but if it's like a bunch dudes standing doing the same thing, then this is not what HS does. You should see it to believe it!! a thousand enemies on the screen and a lot of them are doing different movements ...etc.
