[QUOTE="casey7672"]Are you just dumb or what? Japan is home to Nintendo also. Wii is cheaper and is outselling all consoles. BFD! The PS3 is a great system. I'm sure Ford Focuses outsell Lamborghini, but which would you rather have if you could afford either?!casey7672

as a family man, i'd rather have the focus..

stupid analogy btw....

You missed the point. The cheaper one always outsells the higher priced one. And PS3 has way better technology in it. And it's a perfect analogy.

GC didn't outsell the ps2 or even xbox. many different mp3 players didn't outsell the ipod. you point is flawed.

Leave it to tango to make a hate thread against anything Sony.

mahjustin

no hate...just the facts....

remember; for the last year the cows were swearing japan would lead the ps3 to victory....

one year into it; and it's getting trounced 4 to 1 by a "kiddy" console with less "powah" than the ps3's "supercomputer"...

Silly logical question only because I've seen the comment in a couple of posts in this thread. How exactly is the PS3 "catching up to" the Wii when it is still being outsold 4 to 1?

True it is not being outsold by as much as it was at one point in time, but all this means it that the PS3 is not losing as much ground as it was before, but it is still losing ground. The only way to catch up is to consistantly outsell the Wii.

To put it in math instead of words: Runner 1 (Wii) runs 2 miles a month for 6 months while runner 2 (PS3) runs .25 miles. At the end of 6 monthsrunner 1has run 12 miles andrunner 2has run 1.5 puttingrunner 110.5 miles ahead of runner 2. For the next 4 months, runner 1 runs 1 mile per month to runner 2's .25 miles. That's 4 miles for runner 1 and 1 mile for runner 2. Combined with the previous 6 months, runner 1has run 16 miles to therunner 2's2.5 miles putting theRunner 1 (Wii)even further ahead by 13.5 miles.

Math is fun.

Though the next-gen video format war is not yet over, it is becoming increasingly clear which way the tide of battle is turning. Today, analysts at Home Media Research (via Reuters) reported that Sony's Blu-ray Disc format is now outselling Microsoft-backed HD-DVD at a ratio of nearly 2-to-1. Between January 1 and July 1, a total of 795,000 HD-DVDs were sold, versus 1.6 million BDs. As of the end of July, 2.2 million BDs and 1.5 million HD-DVDs have sold since they both hit the market last year.

Home Media Research cited sales of the popular film 300 to illustrate the differences between the two formats. After being released on home video on July 31, the film has sold 190,000 units on Blu-ray and 97,000 units on HD-DVD. The article also referenced the fact that Blockbuster is supporting Blu-ray exclusively as a factor behind the format's increasing sales momentum.

Curiously, the article did not mention the PlayStation 3, which plays Blu-ray discs without any additional hardware. The Xbox 360 supports HD-DVD playback via a $179 peripheral.

1. sony is counting the free bundled movies as "sales"

2. the hardware is paramount not the skewed numbers of individual movie "sales".

now, that we have that in order; go back to the topic or politely leave...

thanks...:)

maybe bluray wasn't such a good idea after all....

No, it's not Blu-Ray. Or even cost.

The reason why Playstation 3 isn't selling as well as Wii is because PS3 is basically Xbox 360 with a Blu-Ray drive. Too many Shooters. Not enough RPGs.

Wii is the new Playstation.

i'm certain it's the cost... RPGs typically don't carry that much weight....

in Japan they do.

RPGS can make or break a system.

1) That's great, because HD-DVD has been giving away more free bundled movies than Blu-Ray. (Toshiba's 5 free HD-DVD campaign, King Kong with Xbox HD-DVD Drive, 3 free HD-DVD deal at Bestbuy, etc...) So what you are saying is that even with all those free HD-DVDs being given away counting as sales, Blu-Ray software is still outselling HD-DVD software 2:1?

2) Blu-Ray players are outselling HD-DVD players 5:1. :D

Just for laughs, by what ratio is it outselling the 360In Japan?

100:1 or 500:1, one can only imagine

tango90101

Isnt Nintendo a japanese company? or have i been smoking some stick icky again, because you are acting as if an american based company is beating sony on their own "turf"

the 360 sales thread is down the hall and to the left...

begone...

this is about sony getting spanked by the last placed console (last gen), this gen.. on their home turf...

ouch...

Nintendo Wii surpassed XBox 360 in worldwide sales within 8 months of launch. :D

In Japan, Wii surpassed Xbox 360 in Japan sales within.... 8 days of launch. :D

this isn't about the 360..

go make your own thread..

this is about sony getting creamed in japan by the "kiddy" Wii...;)

and the sales numbers?

after all if they're really console movers in japan, they must've sold MILLIONS of copies each...right?

numbers?

FF: Crystal Chronicles 2 isn't out yet.

DQ Swords sold 300K units in it's first week, which was a complete sellout. It's well on it's way to becoming a platinum seller.

if it isn't out yet, how can you call it a system seller? bovines...

you have 700k to go before you hit 1 million.... "well on it's way"...? okay...

1) Halo 3 was a system seller before it was released. FFXII is a system seller before it's release.

2) DQ Swords was released in July. It's been selling well at a constant rate since it's release. 1 million units is inevitable.

Playstation 3 is just how you say. But, Wii the new Playstation? Give me a break. Wii has very revolutionary control, indeed. But, I myself won't even consider in comparing Wii with Playstation or Xbox. They are different, and honestly, I prefer the library Xbox or Playstation has. Wii is fun, but you get quite bored after a while.

A friend has it, and he doesn't even look at her. Lets face it. If you don't keep buying games and games in the Wii, it really sucks. Many teenagers think the Wii is childish. Though new releases prove not, I myself think Xbox or Playstation is way more fun to me than the Wii. I only like Wii sports (Especially tenis), so imagine.

1. agreed, but if it would have tanked (which FF games have been known to do) it wouldn't have... the name is important, i don't dispute that.... it's better to wait and see

2. 300k in one week? 3 months later what are the sales numbers? with link..

Once the PS3 has a more affordable price and more games out it's going to be a much closer sale rate.

1) Nope. Did you know that standalone HD-DVD players come with 9 free HD-DVDs? (7 from Toshiba, 2 from retailers)

2) Freebies help HD-DVD more since they give away more than Blu-Ray does, yet BR still outsells HD-DVD

3) It's been confirmed by several independant European retailers

4) Vivid Video has released Debbie Does Dallas on Blu-Ray. No HD-DVD version. :D

Leave it to tango to make a hate thread against anything Sony.

tango90101

no hate...just the facts....

remember; for the last year the cows were swearing japan would lead the ps3 to victory....

one year into it; and it's getting trounced 4 to 1 by a "kiddy" console with less "powah" than the ps3's "supercomputer"...

Whatever tango, I always see you trolling against Sony. Doesn't matter if you use facts or not. I bet you anything that when Sony is actually successful this generation, you'll find some way to dismiss it.

I'm still waiting for tango's chinese HD-DVD player news to come true. Or the fact that he once said that the inclusion of Casino Royale in European PS3's was skewing Nielsen Videoscan Bluray sales data. The latter was my all-time favorite Tango moment.

China is actually using CH-DVD. Basically what they did was copy HD-DVD's specs. It's a pirate version of HD-DVD. :D
