No its not the only one, even G4 made it a winner, i have Demon Souls and gotta say when you play it it sucks you in like u cant stop playing its indeed great but really hard as for DOA i have played it a couple of times but.. i dont know i really didnt feel the game much, thought it was, kinda boring :P but imo that my personal opinion i justdidnt like it so im glad DS won

it's a pretty unique game that brought something new to the genre. I'd explain it in my own words, but instead check kvo's cubbie awards blog post. I feel like he describes DA:O and DS perfectly and that may answer your question.

actually I find it funny that you mention it. IMO Demon's Souls had better gameplay, graphics, and atmosphere. They also used their music or lack of to create their atmosphere along with the online components. Often times there's complete silence soundtrack wise, so all you hear is the sounds of the specific world you're in. Online you can co-op with another player, but there's no way to communicate. This all contributes to the feeling of isolation. It's not just the message system that was done right. A lot of the aspects you've posted, demon's souls did a better job and it's good to see that the editor was able to see that as well. I even liked the voice acting in demon's souls more but all of this is personal opinion.

I mean gameplay? really? you sit there and queue attacks and watch your characters do all the work for you in comparison to non-stop action in which you're in complete control of every movement.

don't get me wrong, dragon age is a good game, but mainly because of the story and how well it's presented. an outrage? please tell me you've played both games.

Whats amazing is that GS decide KZ2 was the best shooter of 09...It beat out the two biggest shooters out there CoD an Halo, not bad for an unresponsive laggy game with crappy controls... :P

KZ2 getting best shooter is laughable. nobody plays that game at all and it's just another average, grey shooter. i've lost all faith in gamespot. and all the cows who really think KZ2 deserved to win are hypocrites, because probably 75% of them don't even own KZ2.

All great games but Batman and Dragon Age trumped Uncharted and Daemons Souls IMO. I didn't line any shooter this year really so I don't care who wins that category.

I'm not surprised. This year really was the year of the Ps3.

i am glad i won't be seeing xbots posting for along time after these multiple blows, especially, Nidget, garland51 and scarface ...........anyway great but unexcpected for R&C or Demon Souls,

why is everyone soo shocked? PS3 fans called it back in 2008 that 2009 will be PS3's year. You can't deny it. It started with Killzone 2 then Infamous then a suprise from Demon Soul's then the king Uncharted 2! Everyone called it but 360 fanboys. Yeah Dragon Age and Demon Souls were most likely neck in neck but overall Demon Souls was victor. Gamespot showed love for both Killzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 but there was waaayyyy more negative talk about MW2. MW2 got a 9.0 but so did COD4 so no improvements really. Now Killzone 2 was a HUGE improvement over KZ and it lived up to the hype. The only problem was it was released before PS3 slim sale surge. PS3 ruled PS3 and can do it again in 2010 with God of War 3, Heavy Rain, MAG, Gran Turismo 5

So you're counting the gimped console versions just to conform to your side, great. I'll be busy playing the PC version of DAO which scored better than DS, an experience that console only gamers won't be able to have.
