The PS3 price drop proves that PS3 has a high demand, but the problem is the high price.

this shows to sony that they still have hope, so they won't give up. also if 60GB ps3 sells out by August like they planned than that would defenitly be a Bigger success for sony because not only has the 60GB sold out in a month but it also shows that all sony has to do is the drop the price.

also with all the great games announce it will surely make the demand higher. for those who say that the sales spike is gonna go down as soon as all the 60GB ps3 is sold out. well they are wrong cause in september sony will release heavnly sword + some other AAA games, and in october it'll be close to the holiday and in november it'll be PS3 1 year annivercity which means a price drop, for the 80GB PS3, cause usually sony drops the price ateach yearannivercity.

Don't say games are going to be AAA before they get reviewed. You never know. The PS3 could go a whole year without one. It's defintiely possible.

I don't mean to be negitive or anything but a price drop always means an increase in sales. Things would be no different for Wii, 360, or any other console/handheld.

Dude...sales always increase for products that get a price-drop...sorry, but that's how it is.

it was innevitable people would buy ps3s after a price drop because it expands into more people's price range, it still doesn't reach the core 'sweet spot' price that sells consoles more.

The PS3 (or x360) will never be a mass market product until it gets into the impulse-buy range ($200 & below).

Neither console has seen a true sales surge yet. We might see one this HOliday season if Ninty drops the price of the Wii.

I've always wanted to buy a PS3 but the price is the issue, and making it cheaper permanently at the moment isn't possible.

Honestly I don't even consider this a price drop. Those of you saying it always increases with a pricedrop.....then why didn't the PS3 sale like this when it had a cost of $499 for months at the beginning?

When it gets a real price drop (meaning below $499), that's when PS3 will really take off.

smells like a desperate move having to do so, so early on in the console's life.

My understanding is that the price drop is not permamanent. Sony is phasing out the 60GB model & selling it for $500, but the 80GB model which will be the main SKU for the system will be $600. So it's really only a temporary pricedrop & doesn't really "prove" anything. It's definitely getting people to buy though, which is good.

How much are 5 Blu-ray movies and an extra Sixaxis? Subtract that from the 60G PS3 and you theoretically have its price.

Aren't these the same claims the sheep made when the GC dropped down to 99 bucks?
