As i am sure you have heard, Sony plans on selling 15 million PS3 by the end of the 2007 fiscal year (which ends in march 2008.) Is this possible? Can Sony really sell 11 million units in 8 months? It would be a huge feat if they did, and it is possible if they played their cards right.

It is possible. However, sony will basically have to show everyone the awesome games coming this fall, maybe get a 2nd price drop in, and really turn on the fire-sales.

They probably have a strategy. I wouldn't doubt it. Sony has had the magic for the last decade after all.

I didn't think 360 would do this well... and I really didn't think Nintendo would pull off what they have... I guess anything is possible. However the cards are highly stacked against them.

For them to do that, they have to sell about 1.4 million unitsa month. The Wii, the fastest selling console in history, is pushing around 1 million units a month. Is it possible? Yes. Is it plausable or likely? No.

And Nintendo had "the magic" the decade before Sony......

I doubt it, but hey anything could happen. Also don't forget that this is sony we're talking about here, the company that dominated the console war for the last 2 gens, so i think they know what they're doing, people tend to forget that.

No , around 10 million might be attainable if things go well for them and the ps3 sees a hefty pricedrop in Europe.

if they were the only system available, yes! but Nintendo and Microsoft will have some great games this holiday season. too much compitition out there, and if Sony really believes that they will sell 15 million by next march, at the rate the Wii is selling, how many systems will the Wii sell by next march?

with all the games coming out for the PS3 and 360 this year, I don't see either one really selling that much more than the other. Nintendo, well thats one hell of a phenomenon we are seeing here. I honestly thought nintendo was going to crash and burn like the gamecube(even though I still believe that it will hit the wall eventually), but so far, I'm absolutely WRONG!

perhaps they won't meet that number until even 2009. They're really putting alot of weight on MGS4... How good could a sequal to MGS actually be for console sales?

Nintendo also had no real competition. Sony has had competition and rose to the occasion while Nintendo folded.

Sony also didn't exactly do it themselves. Nor do I think they did the lion's share of the work to sell those 220 million consoles. They relied a LOT on third parties, much more so than Nintendo or Microsoft ever did. That worked fantastically for them in the past, but now third parties are splitting their resources between the 360 and PS3, and, of course, the Wii is steadily pulling third party attention towards it.

.........We all know by the end of the year the Wii will sell at least over 10 million, the Xbox 360 will maybe sell over 13 million and then Sony will announce that 15 million PS3 have been Shipped .

Consoles are sold from license agreements. That's how the business works. The more support you get thet better off. That's why any console wins. That's why Microsoft and Nintendo lost to Sony. This gen Sony is putting out more first party games because third parties are too poor to deal with next gen development costs. That's why games are going multiplat. The winner of this gen will either be the PS3 or 360. After the price drops on those consoles it'll be like a second launch. You saw the results from the PS3 price drop. Then the Wii will be phased out due to it's inferiority and loss of it's only advantage... cost. You never see any Wii screen shots being touted on here unless it's a joke. That's because the Wii is a joke and only a limited noveltly. While the PS3 and 360 are here to stay and the battle rages on. When that happens the Wii will be forced into obscurity.
