ps3 selling at same rate as 360 *WORLD WIDE*

Don't forget Japan is the headquarters to Sony and Nintendo Fanboys. The XBox360, an American Microsoft product, already loses sales just because of its brand. That alone gives it a disadvantage in the country that partakes and enriches itself the most from the video game industry. As such, if the XBox360 can't gain the support it needs from its fellow Japanese gamers, it will never WIN. Sure it might survive the 5 year video game console cycle, but then it would turn out like the Gamecube : a system with its own fanbase as a minority. All the other developers would put their time and efforts into systems that actually sell worldwide : consequently you would do so on a system that sells in Japan.Brainhunter

So lemmie break this down, the 360 came out first and had a head start right? then the Ps3 came out and is selling at the same rate allegedly, ok so then the ps3 will still be behind, even after the ps3 heavy hitters 360 also has a few heavy hitters of its own

It sales the most when it first comes out dude.

Alot of people who want XBOX 360 already have it so compared to a PS3 which hasnt been out as long means people who want to have one hashad less time to pick one up compared to MS fans so there should be more people who want it who havent bought it yet.

I guess you do, since the Ps2 sold more atthe end of its lifecycle than at the beginning. Likewise with the PS1. Now go to university.

There is also the hardware plague that is affecting the XBox360 models : that fundamental design flaw that gives those treacherous red rings to the unlucky ones. In other words, the XBox360 should be doing a lot better than it really is if it wasn't for the multitude of people holding off their wallets due to that troublesome hardware design miscalculation on Microsoft's part.

To sum things up : the XBox360 possesses "the" games for hardcore gamers at the expense of the design flaw that turns off many people, the PS3 has all the processing power without any decent library to use it on, and the Wii has the intuitive, gimmicky controls and multiplayer friendly games that appeal to other groups along with your gamer stereotype, at the cost of graphics processing power for the price you pay for.

Imo, it still is a system console war. The Wii only has an edge simply because the XBox360 isn't supported as well as the other two consoles in Japan and because its sales are hindered worldwide from its hardware bug, and at the fact that the PS3 has a very poor library of selections.

In hypothesis, if the XBox360 didn't come out with the bug, and the PS3 came out with decent launch titles, the Wii would be in a very different position from where it stands now.

With the PS3 outselling the 360 worldwide with no games and people that are buying a second or maybe a third replacement 360 would really bring the true install base between the two console a lot closer than the sales numbers show. And how many times have people switched broken 360 parts out for good ones and then return the now broken console to the retailer for a refund.

With Mass Effect, GTAIV, and Halo 3 360 will outdue the PS3 for the next 4 months. It's 2008 - onward that I think PS3 will surface the great machine Sony wanted to be.James_Lipton

hmm, how about we get numbers straight from MS and Sony SEC filings, you know, the filings that if you lie on you get fined and go to jail???? These are for the quarter ended June 30, before any price cuts by either side. When the next fiscal quarter ends for both companies, and they release their earnings, we'll get the most recent numbers.

From Microsoft:
EDD revenue decreased primarily due to decreased Xbox 360 console sales, partially offset by Zune sales and increased Xbox accessories and video game sales. We shipped 0.7 million Xbox 360 consoles during the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2007, compared to 1.8 million Xbox 360 consoles in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2006.

So, before any price cuts by either party, MS shipped to retailers 700K, and Sony sold to consumers 710,000. Now, you may proceed to argue whether or not MS actually sold more to consumers because they were withholding 360 stock

Honestly, I come to this site because A)it really is the best one-stop place to check out the latest news and rumors regarding video games, which I do love as a casual hobby, and B)because watching the ps3 flounder and (possibly) fail(ing) really is like witnessing one of those things you want to see first-hand happen before your own very eyes because initially it was thought to be so absolutely implausible that one could not even fathom it actually happening, and two, because when it actually does begin to transpire, and the slow descent downward is occurring its one of those things that you still don't believe is going to happen until it actually does when you can confirm it without an ounce of doubt. Its like watching Duke basketball as a #1 seed lose to an underdog #8 seed. Or the Yankees lose to the surprise young-gun Marlins in the World Series. Or for even a better analogy, like watching the Red Sox beat the Yankees in Game 7 ALCS. Even in the 9th inning up by a comfortable margin you still cannot definitively convince yourself in your mind the Yankees will lose to the Red Sox until you personally witness it occur with your own two eyes. You can hardly even allow yourself to believe it or even think it until it does.

I guess that is why because even though I do dislike Sony (mainly for my belief the only reason they are still even in this business, or even made it in the first place, is because Nintendo made the moronic decision to use carts instead of cds in the n64) and I really can't conjure up strong feelings about Microsoft, I do inadvertadely catch myself silently rooting for lemmings as the video game gods that appear to be seemingly willing Microsoft closer and closer to possible victory, against all odds and logic- though its far far off in the distance, the fact hope has grown stronger is something in and of itself. I can understand why lemmings can get so passionate about this sort of thing because it seems that slowly but surely the tides are changing, at least a bit in their favor. Its interesting.

But still, at this point, its very early on. Microsoft is holding its own, but ps3 isn't going down without a fight. Still, I have my intuition. As a pretty overrated musician once said, "I can feel it coming in the air tonight, og lord...". Right now 360 is Rocky and PS3 is Dolf Lundgren in Rocky 4. Ps3 is the Hawks and 360 is the Mighty Ducks (in the context of the gaming industry. Microsoft as a whole is NOT a lovable underdog...). I'm just glad that its Rash Shonana tomorrow and I don't have to work, because if I wasted a minute of sleep reading this idiotic argument over ambiguous sales numbers I'd just end it.

If what the TC says is true then this is actually in favor of the xbox 360. A system thats already been out for almost two years is still selling just as well as a system that relatively just came out. No loss of steam for the xbox 360 train.CrazyIvanIV
