Considering that Sony is removing BC from the PS3 tostop people from playing PS2 titles this must have them a tad bit annoyed.
Called the StreamMyGame Server, this player is absolutely free and enables PC games to be played remotely on Sony's latest next-generation console. Basically, the server converts coverts the PC game's audio and video into a Game Stream and send it over a home network to a second computer where the gamer can play the game.
By second computer, we mean that it can either be a PC, laptop, PS3 or even any Linux device. Moreover, you will not experience any sort of lag and to top it all, the second computer does not even need to have the game installed.
The newly introduced StreamMyGame Server is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and all computer games based on Microsoft's DirectX8, DirectX9 and DirectX10. This includes the latest and hugely popular games like Crysis, PES 2008 and OpenGL standards.
Moreover, the StreamMyGame Server is also compatible with the above mentioned operating systems up to Super HDTV 3200x2400. It is also compatible with Linux installations including Ubuntu and Yellow Dog Linux which has been highly recommended for the PS3.
According to CEO Richard Faria, "Playing the latest PC game on the PS3 is now a reality at HD resolution and fast frame-rates. I have a PS3 in my living room and PC in my office and my two kids both have old PCs in their bedrooms. Now we can play games anywhere around the home. StreamMyGame's technology networks the power of a main PC so it can be used to play high end games on other PCs, PS3s and Linux devices".
We believe our new Linux player will enable many new devices to connect to the StreamMyGame service. We would like to see "STBs and DMAs using our technology and we have already begun development for mobile OS such as Windows Mobile and Android," added Richard.
The Server will enable PC games to be played remotely over broadband networks that have sufficient capacity such as Verizon's FiOS, Comcast's Wideband and British Telecom's FTTP.
All you have to do is fill out the registration form here. It's not a hoax because StreamMyGame has also released an actual video showing Crysis being played on a client running on the PS3 and a Linux PC.
The free StreamMyGame Server will be available in March 2008. According to the company, publishers will also be able to use StreamMyGame to establish Pay-for-Play services to existing PCs, PS3s and STBs.
