Considering that Sony is removing BC from the PS3 tostop people from playing PS2 titles this must have them a tad bit annoyed.

Called the StreamMyGame Server, this player is absolutely free and enables PC games to be played remotely on Sony's latest next-generation console. Basically, the server converts coverts the PC game's audio and video into a Game Stream and send it over a home network to a second computer where the gamer can play the game.

By second computer, we mean that it can either be a PC, laptop, PS3 or even any Linux device. Moreover, you will not experience any sort of lag and to top it all, the second computer does not even need to have the game installed.

The newly introduced StreamMyGame Server is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and all computer games based on Microsoft's DirectX8, DirectX9 and DirectX10. This includes the latest and hugely popular games like Crysis, PES 2008 and OpenGL standards.

Moreover, the StreamMyGame Server is also compatible with the above mentioned operating systems up to Super HDTV 3200x2400. It is also compatible with Linux installations including Ubuntu and Yellow Dog Linux which has been highly recommended for the PS3.

According to CEO Richard Faria, "Playing the latest PC game on the PS3 is now a reality at HD resolution and fast frame-rates. I have a PS3 in my living room and PC in my office and my two kids both have old PCs in their bedrooms. Now we can play games anywhere around the home. StreamMyGame's technology networks the power of a main PC so it can be used to play high end games on other PCs, PS3s and Linux devices".

We believe our new Linux player will enable many new devices to connect to the StreamMyGame service. We would like to see "STBs and DMAs using our technology and we have already begun development for mobile OS such as Windows Mobile and Android," added Richard.

The Server will enable PC games to be played remotely over broadband networks that have sufficient capacity such as Verizon's FiOS, Comcast's Wideband and British Telecom's FTTP.

All you have to do is fill out the registration form here. It's not a hoax because StreamMyGame has also released an actual video showing Crysis being played on a client running on the PS3 and a Linux PC.

The free StreamMyGame Server will be available in March 2008. According to the company, publishers will also be able to use StreamMyGame to establish Pay-for-Play services to existing PCs, PS3s and STBs.

No but why would you want to stream something like that? A cable hook up that leads directly to your TV monitor would provide no lag, whereas streaming can cause massive lag.

I can guarentee you that the experience of playing streamed will not be as good as playing it on the pc itself.

first since that pc needs to run the encoding and streaming program while playing the game your performance will be worse and probably have lag as well. basically you'll need an even more powerful pc than you would have needed.

lol...and since I have high-end PC's, PS3, 360 and nice HT setup any game that is only on the PC that I want to play while lazing on the couch in surround sound I can.

I fail to see how any of you think this is a poor deal since you either have the capability or it doesn't matter to you.

Or just play it on the pc, seriosly. I am not a pc gamer, but if I wanted to play games so badly I'd bother streaming information I'd just get I high end pc.

ok then, latency. communication is impossible without latency, especially when dealing with the internet.

When they figure out a way that PS3 itself can run PC games, THEN i'll do backflips, but this is pretty much useless since you need a high-end PC too which I dont have right now, if I had a high end PC i'd just play it on the PC i already have an HD Monitor.

Then you would have to move the pc next to the tv, it is a nice feature, just not ownage for hermits or anything.

Ill get right on buying a 100 foot HDMI cable... Not to mention, you could have your ps3 in a different building altogether and it would still work.

wow...does everyone here live in bachelor apartments or do most of you simply like to hate?

My high-end PC is in my office, and I have others throughout the house...but my home theater is in the basement. Now I've always played "Total War 2" for example in the office...but you can be sure with this I'll enjoy playing it downstairson the big screen and it won't take any of the "Buy a new PC or move the rig" ideas you all have.

As for latency...it's on your internal home network...so you're talking what less then 10ms.

Here's a 30 foot cable for 24 bucks. 30 feet is still quite a bit of room to work with. Also, moving a computer a few feet isn't going to kill you, exercise is good every once in a while you know. Although it would be very bad if you considered moving a tower a few feet as exercise.

the latency that i'm talking about isn't network latency solely but more on the time it takes to convert a 720-1080p to the stream, then to send it to the client and have it decode it.

Id rather just leave everything where it is, also using this you could play your pc games at a neighbours house or a hotel. Anywhere where you have access to a ps3. Like I said before, its a nice feature but by no means ownage.

playing outside of your homenetwork means you'll be playing at 640x480 or worse. HD resolutions require 8mbps upload at the server and 8mpbs download at the client. most places will not give you anywhere near that amount of bandwidth. also remember that the data would have to travel through other networks to get to the remote location. any of those networks could (and will likely) bottleneck you as well even if the end points have enough.

Consoles are for the home theater. PC's are in the bedrooms for the kids and offices for the adults.

I have a PC as part of my home theater. It's not like it's a new concept. it's a very popular thing now a days. HTPC, heard of it? I can do just about anything a tivo can as well anything i want a pc to do. I've been able to play movies of any format or years and can play games as well.

My office doesn't need a gaming pc. I keep it free of distractions as much as i can. I wouldn't put a pc in my kids bedroom. it would be in a place where i could monitor their activities and use in a more proactive manner.

um, how can I explain this to a couple of kids ..............

ok,

Render>>>>Send Signal>>>>>>transmit to PC>>>show

PC>>>>>>>Software>>>>>>>>PS3>>>>>>>>>your HDTV

but, since software cannot render games, the PC has to do it

becouse when the signal comes to the PS3, it already has to be rendered

PS3 will only be like a DVDplayer

[QUOTE="Shazenab"]^^^ Maybe its uk thing then, but as it stands uk houses are very small. Its not like we spread our pcs, consoles and tvs leaps and bounds apart.Ontain

no. i think for most PC gamers they are pretty close.

LOL...I bet they could have a scientific study that would show the older you get the further apart those things get.

HTPC...thanks but yes I've heard of it...I also have no need for it, much less a high-end PC with HTPC functionality sitting in my living room.

If you have a PS3 and 360 along with a PVR (you need some sort of HD digital cable box...or satellite, your choice), then why bother. I guess you could go Over the Air HD...but that's bunk, I want my On-Demand services in good quality.

As for your choice about where you put your PC's and what they do that is just that, your choice. None of that changes the fact I will enjoy playing PC games though my PS3 that prior to this I would not have. Much less do I see why you find this such an argumentative subject.

As far as I'm concerned it's more functionality for my PS3. If you don't like ti don't take advantage of it. Not like it costs anything but again...it's your choice.

Thats the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

Also, after reading the article, your topic title is very misleading. The PS3 isn't playing anything, you still need a PC to play these games, and if you're doing that, you might as well just hook up your PC to your HDTV, and leave all this PS3 and streaming business out of the question.

Streaming with no lag... yeah okay, I'll bet it can fly without wings and lay golden eggs too.

This entire topic is just total failure on so many levels.
