PS3 Tops Xbox 360 for Netflix Usage

According to anew reportby broadband company Sandvine, Netflix accounts for 24.71 percent of the total internet traffic in the United States. BitTorrent traffic is in second place with 17.23 percent, HTTP sites boast a 17.18 take, and YouTube sits at 9.85 percent.

When downstream traffic only is measured, Netflix rises to 29.70 percent, up from 20.61 percent in Sandvine's report last year. HTTP, YouTube, BitTorrent, and Flash Video bring up the rear with 18.36 percent, 11.04 percent, 10.37 percent, and 4.88 percent respectively.

And where are people going to fulfill their Netflix habit? Interestingly, despite the fact that Xbox 360 had Netflix first and didn't require any sort of start-up disc, PlayStation 3 actually is the leading device for watching Netflix with 30.57 percent of the total traffic. The Xbox 360 is number two with 24.94 percent while Netflix's original streaming platform – the PC – has a 19.55 percent share. The Wii's lack of HD streaming leaves it at 10.75 percent, which is still above every other device in the report. All told, 66.26 percent of all Netflix watching is done on home consoles.

The average Netflix user consumes 1 GB of data per day, while those getting their Netflix on with a console consume 2.5 GB per day. These numbers are huge, and that's beforeStar Trek launches on Netflix streaming.

that's mainly because the 360 has so many media service on Live to choose from though, isn't it lol? i mean the PS3 has Netflix and what else exactly??

the 360 has Netflix, Espn, Zune, HuluPlus....etc. i mean there's just so many options on Xbox Live. there's no need to focus just on Netflix like with the ps3...thats why its taken the lead, imo.

that's mainly because the 360 has so many media service on Live to choose from though, isn't it lol? i mean the PS3 has Netflix and what else exactly?? the 360 has Netflix, Espn, Zune, HuluPlus....etc. i mean there's just so many options on Xbox Live. there's no need to focus just on Netflix like with the ps3...thats why its taken the lead, imo.

I really hate that you need a gold membership to use Netflix. Thankfull I have a Wii so I can still use Netflix.

i think ur mistaken lol. unless ur talking about using the crap browser on the ps3 then you've got to be. all the services there i listed, and more, have dedicated apps made for the 360 and Live...they're integrated. i've heard of no announcements of any HuluPlus apps for psn or anything really since Sony copied MS idea and integrated Netflix and Facebook(kinda) to it. do you have any links?LucidJubilation

see, it's an actually app that's integrated into the service. does PSN have that...i didnt see it announced.

Netflix is even better on the PS3 with 5.1 sound and 1080p on select movies and shows. And there has been Hulu Plus on the PS3 since last year, and yes its an app just like the 360 version that only came out a few weeks ago.

and how is psn having a HuluPlus app proving me wrong? did i even say it didn't have a HuluPlus app? or did i say Live has more apps and things to occupy people...i said that and said i didnt know it had a HuluPlus app when it was presented, and ask for info on it...to which u got very paranoid and defensive. how is that me saying it didnt have it and me being wrong? get it together and stop trying to manipulate a win.

Regardless, this is system wars, not "who watches movies more on their game consoles wars". If nothing else this just proves fanboys will look for any possible percievable victory they can get.
