NOTE: Read it all before posting please :D and there are edits

This isn't really a vs. thread I just wanna point out some logistical points. I have all consoles and you will find no bias here.

Second, let me start by saying the PS3 is still a baby. And by that I mean it obviously hasn't had the time to mature into the system it will be. Very much like how the 360 did in it's first year. 360 learned how to walk when Gears shipped, lol. Remember, both come attatched with a long term plan.

Intelligent, unbiased conversation only please (Nevermind, this is SW)

--Networks--

360has Live, which we all know is an awesome service. Matchmaking, marketplace, unified friends lists, all standardized in the games... the only thing holding back MS from really crushing Sony is the fee. Also, it looks as if MS is letting Sony step ahead with the original downloadable game service. XNA is awesome, but really doesn't reach out to the casual user...great potential though. Oh, and Live Anywhere, lol.

Downloadables:
+ Firmware updates
+ Arcade/ old games
+ HD movies/ TV episodes (who does this? cool none-the-less)
+ Game demos
+ Interviews/ previews
+ Background Downloading
+ Game content i.e. maps

PS3 on the on the other hand has a growing network which isn't nearly as robust as Live but it's FREEEEE! Soon with Home, PS3 owners will have the functionalities of Live, but through a 3D interface. If you already don't know about it here: HOME. BTW, it's been in development for some years so don't say it's not original. Sony is doing one thing that helps industries prosper...by aspiring to use inspiration from other entertainment sources (competitors or not) and create it's own ideas. Oh, and you can help cure cancer, lol.

Downloadables:
+ Firmware updates
+ Arcade games
+ Game demos
+ Game content
+ Trailers/ interviews
+ PSone games for PSP
+ Background downlading
+ SOON TO BE ADDED: Sony music, movie store. Did you forget they did that too?

--Console Features--

360has (14 plus // 3 minus):
+ 20 Gig HDD (Premium :( )
+ DVD player
+ 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p
+ Wireless accessories
+ Rumble!
+ Moderate BC
+ Standard custom soundtracks
+ 3 USB ports
+ Ethernet port
+ Standard headsets
+ Standard component cables (Premium & Zephyr)
+ Music player
+ iPod connectivity
+ Windows Media connection
- No standard Wifi ($100 add-on)
- No standard HDMI (soon with Zephyr :( )
- Difficult and unintuitive to transfer data to other devices
~~ Not really a plus or minus, but the HD-DVD drive is a $200 add-on that alot of Lems don't mind paying for.

PS3 has (16 Plus // 4 minus):
+ 20/60 Gig HDD (any detachable HDD also)
+ Blu-ray & DVD player
+ Standard HDMI
+ 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p
+ Great BC
+ Wireless accessories
+ Chargable controller
+ Bluetooth/ Wifi ready (Mics, M&K, routers, etc.)
+ Internet Browsing FTW
+ PSP conectivity (video/ picture streaming)
+ 4 USB ports (recognizes wide variety of devices such as cameras and external HDDs)
+ Ethernet port
+ Cool Picture Options
+ Music player (can convert format types)
+ Motion sensing functionality
+ LINUX Yellow Dog (optional, 2 hour install)
------> You basically get an awesome OS for free. Even has the potential to emulate Windows, lol
- No standard headsets :(
- No standard component cables
- No rumble (coming soon?)
- As of now, some games aren't compatible in 1080i :( (but Sony's updating kits)

--Hardware--

I won't go into detail about the GPU's and processors stuff...But I will say that, beggining Q3/4, you won't really recognize a difference in PS3 and 360 games. Like the PS2, devs are late on getting a full understanding of the PS3 tech. Each system will have exclusive titles that rival each other in visuals and multiplats will be about equal.

--Future Exclusive Games--

Based on proven potential and hype

360:
+ Mass Effect
+ Fable 2
+ Bioshock
+ Forza 2
+ Halo 3
+ Halo Wars
+ Gears of War 2
+ Ninja Gaiden 2
+ Blue Dragon
+ Lost Odssey
+ Banjo Threeie
+ Kane and Lynch
+ Rare secret project
+ Seeds project (former Clover Studios devs)
+ Too Human (hope its good Dennis Dyack!)
+ Huxley
+ PGR4
+ Jade Empire 2?

PS3:
+ MGS4
+ Uncharted: DF
+ Ratchet Future
+ Killzone 2
+ FF13
+ FF13 Versus
+ White Knight Story
+ Gran Turismo 5
+ Heveanly Sword
+ Lair
+ Little Big Planet
+ Jak and Daxter: Lost Frontier
+ Ninja Gaiden Sigma
+ Resistance 2
+ God of War 3
+ Tekken 6
+ Kingdom Hearts 3
+ Socom 5
+ Next SCEI project
~~ If Squenix finds time to remake FFVII..that will be an OmniSlash to 360 is Japan :(

In the end both systems are great investments. PS3 is definitely worth the price...Sony is just having a hard time communicating that reasoning :(.

Personally I'm a bit (tiny winy) more interested in my PS3's future versus my 360. With more games and an identity, 360 has alot going for it and seemingly can't go wrong from here. Let's see how it pans out.

Also, I wanna iterate that PS3 IS NOT dead and far from it. If it can fare this well thus far in 2 regions without a true identity and high price...there's no telling what the near future holds.

How many of those would be out? How many have you played? Might try putting *looks to have* in your statement.

Well, it's matter of opinion. I'm fine with Resistance, VF, and MS as of now. I said the same thing about 360 during this time last year. Oh yea, Oblivion's out now :D. I might pick it up for PS3 since my 360 ate my other version.

The REAL PS3 vs 360 Comparison 360 + awesome online play & features + great games already out + multi-platform games are better on the 360 + awesome lineup for the next 12 months - launch consoles were a bit dodgy PS3 + free online (but no functionality yet, Home may improve this but at this stage its only speculation) + you get a blu ray player for free (does represent significant value even though its kinda useless at the moment) - current games lineup is mediocre - lineup over the next 12 months is lacking AAA exclusives

Wouldn't those both be guesses? I agree with the first one but not the second.

Ratchet, Heveanly Sword, MGS4, and Uncharted seem like highly potential PS3 AAA exclusives all coming out this year. We could even go as far as Lair and KZ.

Lemmings are scared.   They feel threatened.  They won't give the PS3 an inch.  They don't realize that in a year or so, the PS3 will be way beyond what it is now.  It truly is pathetic to fault the PS3 which has a very large amount of potential this early.  The Wii is pretty much what it always will be.  We all know that the PS3 has a whole lot more up its sleeve.  So much more power for developers to tap into!  Just look at the PS2 with God of War II.  Did anyone expect that!?

How do you know there will be a lack of AAA exclusives within the next 12 months? Where did you get your crystal ball, cuz I want one! And of course there are great games out for 360 (PS3 too). It's been out a year and a half almost, it should have those games. If you take into consideration the PS3 and 360 life cycles and do an accurate comparison, they were both at the same point around this time.

Great comparison.  I too own both consoles and I agree with you.  The PS3 seems to have the most future potential.  Hopefully sony puts rumble back in the controllers though.

Hey, my ps3 vs. 360 review is better :p

Here's mine which hardly any fanboys replied to sadly. It's a bit old though so I would probably have more points but too lazy to update it. It was a thread and also in my blog now:

(PS3 vs 360 (My non-fanboy opinion)

First off yes I am not a fanboy, my console list in my sig shows you my gaming history so think what you want I just like playing games period. Now here's my take on the two consoles. I was gonna do this PS3 first then 360 but I decided to do it rather point by point in comparison.

Hardware
I'm no computer genius in terms of hardware so I don't know all the facts but I think the two consoles are not so different and not so amazingly far from each other in terms of what they can do.

However the one big thing so far, as it's only been a few months for Sony, is the system failure problem. Whether Lemmings will admit it or not, it is a HUGE issue and I had to look into a Warranty for the system like never before with any other purchase for a electronic system. The failure rate is said to be about 5% or a bit above the norm which for me brings one of the Biggest problems for the 360 even though it's now fixed. It took so long for Microsoft to push their free 90day warranty to 1yr. I mean with the huge failure rate, and it was on just about every news channel even, you think they would save face by doing that but they didn't and many many many 360 fans had to return and return, hopefully if they had a warranty from a store or pay for the costs of fixing it... The problem is fixed now with the 1yr but it is a real corporate ugly thing to have not done that earlier on... So Sony looks good in this respect being that I don't hear about too many PS3's dying.

Price
Yes the dreaded price conversation for Sony fans. Look it does matter. People can't afford whatever you throw at them, just because it's cheaper then something even more expensive doesn't make it a good deal for all gamers. Facts, I use this word correctly lol. Around the world people have been mentioning the price tag as a negative so this is not some fanboy hatred for the PS3.

Me and my brother were going to buy either a PS3 or a 360 and ya know the biggest thing to swing it to the 360 was? You guessed it, the price. And the fact that we were getting a Blu-Ray player didn't even make a mention in our debate over which to get. Price point matters in business, if you don't know that you don't know anything about the business world. Now the 360 isn't cheap either and it launched without a game too which is stupid to me no matter what the price... but the PS3's price tag came with only a free Blu-Ray movie which also left a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths, me for one and many gamers I know.

Controllers
The 360 wireless controller edges out the Sixaxis for me here's why.
The PS3 wireless isn't as easy to use on any system like the 360's is. The 360 controller is way too easy to link with your console while the PS3's isn't hard but does take time. Now the one thing the PS3 controller has that I like a lot is a built in battery. While this may be a problem with the battery dying out it might take many many years for that anyway... but you get a wire to charge your controller without need for a battery so this is a really nice thing. I have a rechargable battery set before I got my 360 so doesn't matter to me however but would be nice to have what the SixAxis has.

But another big thing for me is the lack or rather non existent rumble feature for the sixaxis. Rumble is a Great feature for FPS's personally and all games really like racing or sports. Personally for example I love using it in a FPS and feeling the heart beat when I snipe or feeling a shot hit me before I even see where's it's coming from. The Sixaxis which is a terrible name IMO feels more gimmicky to me then the WiiMote really... I don't like the idea of having to use that to race or fly. And using it to swing a bat in baseball sounds retarded...

Games
Another huge topic, now when the 360 launched I said their games were freaking crappy I recall this and can be honest about it. I now admit I was wrong because I didn't get opinion from friends who had it and just based it on not knowing the title of a game lol Anywho Kameo is a nice game, PDZ was as well, and COD2 which either came out at launch or soon after is AMAZING to me.

Now the PS3 launches with pretty much said to be only with R:FOM as many people are saying. I kind of agree with that too and some of the people I know who have it who are die hard Sony fans admit they don't play it much and are waiting for some new games...

Now I have to say the PS3 had a year to watch their competition so this is an advantage whether fanboys admit it or not. Which is why I think the argument about their graphics first gen vs. 360 now matters because they had a while to make the graphics better. I guess we will see when Fear, R6V and Oblivion come out if they made them better with the year or more wait or not. But honestly both systems didn't have any huge games at their launch and 2007 will be a big year in gaming for both platforms.

At this point I give the nod to the 360 for games now and till the end of 2007. This is probably just personal opinion so not a huge thing but however I do find, and so does GS that FPS's which I love always tend to be better on the the xbox platform then PS. But now the 360 is moving on from just FPS's really. I'm looking forward to Mass Effect, Fable 2, Alan Wake. With the PS3 which I will get down the line I doubt I will be buying Motorstorm no matter then score, Lair doesn't interest me really nor many of the upcoming exclusive titles other than Killzone2 and MGS4.

PSN vs. XBL
Psn is free and that is a big deal indeed. But XBL is not expensive really to me and compare that to the PS3 price I don't see why people are bringing down XBL just because of a price. I finally got XBL in January and I am addicted to a console like never before. I love playing a campaign but Live is like GOD... And I find PS has much less good online games to play compared to Xbox and it's pretty much well known that XBL still is number one as of yet despite the free PSN. This comes from many reviewers as well so you can say it's biased but I'm far from alone on this...I think the PSN isn't as old as XBL so they can catch up but XBL can do more as well and really I'm not surprised cause Microsoft is doing it, the big computer company. Should we really be surprised about them doing a good online service being that they're company is computer based.

Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD
Again not a genius on that stuff so don't know it all but I would probably give the nod to Blu-Ray here.
I think having more space will be something to notice in a couple of years down the line when Rockstar can make GTA: Donkey City and have it take place over three countries etc...

I do still feel the fact that Sony made the Blu-Ray a part of the system and not something you can choose to buy a little annoying only because of the price added to the PS3. I can choose to buy HD-DVD sometime down the line if I want to and I like that cause I don't have to spend more for it.

Also I know Sony is pushing for Blu-Ray but it is kind of annoying to me as a gamer. Sure they did it with DVD but I find it just more annoying and different this time around. I always was bitter about not having a free game for a system for the PS3 and 360 but Sony took it further and instead of giving us a game they decided to push their Blu-Ray format and give me a movie...That pissed me off greatly. They could have gave us some kind of game instead of a movie.. but they rather push their format which really makes Sony look different to me.

Image
Some people say image is everything.
I have to say entering into their launch and during launch the PS3 came off uptight and snobish. Like they expected me to buy one just because they are Sony. I mean the ad-campaign further cements what I am saying here. They had these really weird tv spots with a white room and an PS3 in the middle of that made me question who they're target audience is with that kind of commercial? With the price tag is just added to this feel that the PS3 was for certain kind of people almost. And someone on GS showed a pic of a PSP billboard playing on race that me shocked... it wasn't racist no... but it was a kind of commercial I would expect to see in a fashion magazine not a billboard meant for gamers...

I find the 360 is trying to branch out with arms open, even after their lack of 1yr warranty disaster they still made up on that eventually. They are trying to make a noise in Japan and are getting more and more non FPS games despite what fanboys say. They look like a company trying to win your vote while Sony is acting like they almost deserve to win it off the bat and you should just give it to them cause they are Sony. I think Sony didn't work enough and expected too much brand loyalty no matter what. Every console that comes out has got to be treated like it's your first and never expect a fanbase to be there no matter what.

IMO the PS3 will probably win in the end but if Sony worked harder and didn't dismiss everyone else as competition which is the way they come off, they wouldn't have let MS and Nintendo sit right next to them and give them a dog fight.

Well this is my take on the battle and it is non fanboy no matter what you fanboys say. I want to buy a PS3 and I will one day and I know I will enjoy it as well. I just give the 360 the nod as of now.

PS2 was released in 2000- it is now 2007- 7 years is a long time to wait for such power to be tapped.

PS2 was released in 2000- it is now 2007- 7 years is a long time to wait for such power to be tapped.

hey 100 million buyers waited or wait maybe millions waited.

GoW 2 isn't the only good looking game on PS2. Throughout it's lifespan (akin to all systems) games looked better.

Thank You, I wish I could get more fanboys like KeyWii and InfamousC to read it so I can hear their thoughts on it cause I think it is pretty fair and unbias as I can be. I'm 100% gamer no fanboys allowed here

Wow, please tell me why it's inaccurate. I know, it isn't the most in depth, but I do touch major topics with each system.

If your gonna critique his review then atleast explain your dislike of it instead of that post

I'm curious as to why it's inaccurate. Even though there's a lil more light in PS3's future for him doesn't make him biased. At least he's playing all the systems to get the total experience out of this gen.

you forgot to mention you can hook up your ipod to the 360 (and your PSP) and play a custom soundtrack over any game your playing.. also you can hook up any external HDD and use it to store your demos and videos (haven't tried so i may need to test it out, but i'm pretty sure you can) oh and when the rechargeable batteries in the xbox controller die out completely you can get them replaced (or shove 2 AA batteries in there temporarily) i think with the sixaxis you'll have to send them in, am i wrong??

the ps3 may not be completely dead yet, but the last rites have definately been read....;)

it's funny that every "unbiased comparison" thread is pro-ps3, trying to convince people that $600 is a bargain for something that is less of a gaming console than the competition...

keep trying tho... i do love watching the sales schpeel.....

The sixaxis controllers have internal batteries that won't die until like 5 years...then you gotta send it in I think.

Oh yeah, I'll add the iPod thing...I'm not sure if PS3 can do that though and I don't have an iPod to find out :P.

Nice PS3 bias. You might own the other 2 console but you are a cow at heart.apolloluke

And it's plain to see. Home is a joke, much like his comparison.

All good points, but the one major minus you left off of the PS3 list is the lack of 1080i support. Im sorry, but as someone who owns a 3 year old rear projection HDTV, I will not be forced to play games at 480p. My HDTV only does 480p and 1080i. The 360 fully supports 1080i!!!

NOTE: Read it all before posting please :D

+ Game content i.e. maps

PS3 on the on the other hand has a growing network (FREEEEE!!).

360has (13 plus // 3 minus):
+ 20 Gig HDD (Premium :( )
+ DVD player
+ Wireless accessories
+ Rumble!
+ Moderate BC
+ Standard custom soundtracks
+ 3 USB ports
+ Ethernet port
+ Standard headsets
+ Standard component cables (Premium & Zephyr)
+ Music player
+ iPod connectivity
+ Windows Media connection
- No standard Wifi ($100 add-on)
- No standard HDMI (soon with Zephyr :( )
- Difficult and unintuitive to transfer data to other devices
~~ Not really a plus or minus, but the HD-DVD drive is a $200 add-on that alot of Lems don't mind paying for.

PS3 has (15 Plus // 3 minus):
+ 20/60 Gig HDD (any detachable HDD also)
+ Blu-ray & DVD player
+ Standard HDMI
+ Great BC
+ Wireless accessories
+ Chargable controller
+ Bluetooth/ Wifi ready (Mics, M&K, routers, etc.)
+ Internet Browsing FTW
+ PSP conectivity (video/ picture streaming)
+ 4 USB ports (recognizes wide variety of devices such as cameras and external HDDs)
+ Ethernet port
+ Cool Picture Options
+ Music player (can convert format types)
+ Motion sensing functionality
+ LINUX Yellow Dog (optional, 2 hour install)
------> You basically get an awesome OS for free. Even has the potential to emulate Windows, lol
- No standard headsets :(
- No standard component cables
- No rumble (coming soon?)

--Hardware--

I won't go into detail about the GPU's and processors stuff...But I will say that, beggining Q3/4, you won't really recognize a difference in PS3 and 360 games. Like the PS2, devs are late on getting a full understanding of the PS3 tech. Each system will have exclusive titles that rival each other in visuals and multiplats will be about equal.

--Future Exclusive Games--

Based on proven potential and hype

360:
+ Mass Effect
+ Fable 2
+ Bioshock
+ Forza 2
+ Halo 3
+ Halo Wars
+ Gears of War 2
+ Ninja Gaiden 2
+ Blue Dragon
+ Lost Odssey
+ Banjo Threeie
+ Kane and Lynch
+ Rare secret project
+ Seeds project (former Clover Studios devs)
+ Too Human (hope its good Dennis Dyack!)
+ Jade Empire 2?

PS3:
+ MGS4
+ Uncharted: DF
+ Ratchet Future
+ Killzone 2
+ FF13
+ FF13 Versus
+ White Knight Story
+ Gran Turismo 5
+ Heveanly Sword
+ Lair
+ Little Big Planet
+ Ninja Gaiden Sigma
+ Resistance 2
+ God of War 3
+ Tekken 6
+ Kingdom Hearts 3
+ Socom 5
+ Next SCEI project
~~ If Squenix finds time to remake FFVII..that will be an OmniSlash to 360 is Japan :(

In the end both systems are great investments. PS3 is definitely worth the price...Sony is just having a hard time communicating that reasoning :(.

Personally I'm a bit (tiny winy) more interested in my PS3's future versus my 360. 360 has alot going for it and seemingly can't go wrong from here. Let's see how it pans out.

Also, I wanna iterate that PS3 IS NOT dead and far from it. If it can fare this well thus far in 2 regions without a true identity and high price...there's no telling what the near future holds.

Wow, you Lemms are really nitpicking. I knew that posting this thread with any ounce of PS3 favor (even though I have 360 love) yall would dismiss it as "bias". I honestly think it's hard to disagree with what I wrote (more so assuming that you have thorough experience with both and understand the current/ future forcasts).

It's a pretty unbias comparison. But every gamer has an preffered system and I can't help but see yours in the PS3. It shows pretty clear at some points in you're comparison. Like when you said PSN was up par with Live. Everyone knows that is very not true.

I never said PSN is on par with Live...it's not true. I said, Home would bring Live features to PSN except with a 3D interface.
