The debate should be ended, but the reasons you placed for that TC are ENTIRELY WRONG.

The fact is, the visual quality on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 is so ridiculously close, people are just nitpicking over the most minute, and ultimately insubstantial details to have bragging rights. As if there was a gap between them like comparing PS1 and Gamecube.

And if one system has a new game that juuuuuust edges in graphics over the other platform? It's still young into this generation. The other will come out with something that tops that (again by just a small margin) as the two competitors escalate their battle of one upmanship. And NO, neither console has "maxed out its potential" after only 2 years as some fanboys like to say. Which is a GOOD thing for us gamers. We reap the benefits of their trying to earn our favor.

Also, many people overlook the importance of art direction and
sty1e that it's not just about the technical graphics of polygons, texture resolution, surface refraction and such. Games like Okami and Killer 7 have a unique and beautiful sty1e

Bottom line - either one of these systems will give you a gaming experience with brilliant visuals that will pull you into an immersive world of both realism and art design. The battle for "graphics supremacy" is ultimately futile.

MortalDecay

The graphical capabilities only seem close for now. Wait another year or so, and we'll see distinctive differences in graphical capabilities, especially polygon count from the PS3.

In other words, just wait...I am getting so sick of seeing that. The cow's "Just Wait" theory didn't work for the PS2, and I doubt it'll work for the PS3.

and they said cows never admit to anything just look at your comments.

[QUOTE="deadmeat59"]pretty sad how 360 is a year older yet it has the same graphics as ps3lmblomas

How is it sad, the PS3 came out a year later wich means it should have better technology. It should be the other way around, sad how a system thats a year old can have the same graphics of a newer system.

Um, actually, Microsoft was sceduled to release xbox360 around the same time as ps3 and wii but chose to release it way too early (they wanted to get ahead of the competition), thats why alot are experiencing the RROD,because they didn't fully complete the testing stage. So, in theory, it would have been released around the same time as wii and ps3 if microsoft had gone through that testing stage instead of just releasing faulty hardware (remember, it came in the newspaper saying that 360s were overheating).

So let me guess. You're operating under the premesis that X360 has maxed out it's potential after just 2 years, whereas PS3 still has endless amount of untapped potential ready to be unlocked that we'll see each and every game generation cycle?

All X360 has is a decent GPU, maybe they should've taken the extra year to actually have quality, HDMI, wifi and Blu-ray as well.

After seeing what BluRay has done to the PS3, the LAST thing I would want in the 360 is a BluRay drive. Not until they up the drive speed. PS3 owners can live with it all they want, but I don't want to sit around, and waste my HDD space so a game can install and run like it should in the first place.

Too bad X360 doesn't even have the option this gen for installs. Big step backwards for Microsoft. They had it right with the original Xbox. You just suffer long load times. Oh and the Blu-ray drive is just as fast as your X360 DVD drive. DVDs only hit their adveritsed speed at the edge of the disc and dual layer disks slow the read speed way down as well. Blu-rays read at the same speed all the time.

Even after so many professional sites went on records saying Uncharted has the best graphics on consoles, some lemmings here still refuse to believe. Now that GT5p is out, the debate should end already. If you have played GT5p and not say the PS3 has the best graphics on any console, then I regard you as nothing more than a blind fanboy.

Have you ever seen a more realistic looking game on any console? If you answer no, then the graphics debate has ended.

visually its the same as gears 1 but with a bit more destruction, and little inprovements, but gears 1 had great graphics anyway.

BluRay is currently the same speed as DVDs? Let's see; every single credible tech publication reports that it's slower (thus the reason for HDD installs), and you say their speeds are the same. Sooooo.... whoooooo ar we to believe here?

mmmm.... this IS a tough choice...

**** Blu-ray it's an overpriced, useless format that was pushed prematurely because Sony wanted to corner yet ANOTHER entertainment market! Blu-ray is a joke and neither games nor movies have proven it's worth yet.

Well by then the world might be gearing up for the next Xbox or at least getting ready to hear about it which will in turn TROUNCE PS3 on all fronts so what's the point waiting for the potential of a machine when a newer one will be coming over the horizon?

REALLY? That's why I ran DMC 4 on 360 NO PREINSTALL to DMC 4 (god bless Gamefly) on PS3 with PREINSTALL and both were just about the same loading? PS3 by ONE SECOND at times SAME at others!

Sure, that's why GTAIV is said to have an optional installation (big step backwards? sounds better than an obligatory installation imo). Besides: 360 games still load quicker (which has been tested and confirmed a lot of times, so much for bluray > dvd).

Its not about hardware, both are very outdated, its about what dev can best utilize the hardware, and even if Gt5 is the best looking I'm willing to bet that Uncharted is pushing the PS3 harder.

That's more games than the cows have. They still haven't figured out how to play sales yet, on their PS3, even though they hype it so much. So all they have left are games with UBER EXTREME GRAPHICS, which only leaves less than a hand full.

Two most popular PS3 games "Just Wait" by SCEA and "Folding @ Home" by Stanford

Misconceptions:

1. The release of the console shows the power. WRONG, it has nothing to do with the power. the console with the most powerful GPU and overgaming performance was released FIRST and the worst was released LAST.

2. The PS3 is the most powerful because it came out a yeal later. WRONG. see #1.

3. the posters on this forum know something about any aspect of the argument to come to a conclusion.

FACTS:

1. the 360 DOES have the more powerful GPU. and NOT by a little. by ALOT. deal with it.

2. the PS3 has ZERO power that needs to be tapped. none of them do. NONE OF THEM DO.

3. The CPU does NOTHING to help with graphics. ZERO.

now you kids can fight and come to any conclusion you want. i could care less. my honest EDUCATED opinion is that the 360 is more powerful than the PS3, and can render much higher resolution textures as well as polygons on screen than the PS3. but then again why am i telling you guys this? who the hell cares what 14 year olds think on this subject? HAHA! you guys have yet to look at technical graphics rather than what "looks pretty to my eyes".

You're correct, DVD's read speed increases as you move from the innermost tracks to the outer edge...unfortunatly for you 12x DVD's read speed on its innermost(ie slowest) part of the disc is still nearly as fast as 2x BD-ROM. Nearly the entire first layer of 12x DVD is faster than 2x BD-ROM, and over half of the second layer is...so basically about 75% of the content on the DVD will be read faster than bluray, and that's not taking into account the seek time of bluray due to changing the rotational speed of the disc to maintain its constant read speed(this is why data duplication was used for some games...it was faster to have the data on the disc multiple times where close to the other info being used at the time then move the laser and change the disc rotational speed). I'm sure most of this will be well over your head based on your blatent fanboyism and prior posting history. Reading at the same speed all the time is very well suited for applicaitons where a constant stream of data is being read(ie strangely enough movies), but it wastes potential for reading data faster by simply NOT SLOWING THE DISC DOWN in applicaitons that could use it(ie games). Bluray has never been meant for anything other than movies, but at least as the spec increases to 4x and beyond it will still get faster than DVD eventually.

now please get on with your lives

The 360's GPU is more powerful than the RSX, but the CELL can do Lighting, Physics and AI. The RSX doesn't have to do that. That lets the RSX do more because the CELL is taking care of the other things. When the CELL and RSX are programmed to work together, it results in beautiful games like Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Uncharted take advantage PS3 by making the CELL and the RSX work together. That's why they look good.

I hope Sony doesn't release a fighter because Battle Arena Toshinden was trash xD.

As for an RPG, maybe they can finally make a sequel to Legend of Dragoon?

It's a Namco fighter. Namco could choose to bring it wherever they wanted.

until I see tekken on anything not owned by Sony I'll continue to consider it exclusive.

The 360's GPU is more powerful than the RSX in some aspects, mainly in vertices. The RSX can do better lighting than the 360's GPU, not the cell. The cell does do physics, as well as AI-- none of these functions would be handled on the graphics card in the first place.

You're right about the cell and the RSX working together, but I don't think you quite understand how. The cell is a floating point powerhouse. It calculates the vertices and the polygons and has the RSX draw them, texture them, light them, ect.

sorry that im dum lol.

but yeah! polyphony said that they have over 200,000 polygons per car in GT5!

Best Looking Racer: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Best Looking Third Person Action: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Best Looking Platformer: Ratchet & Clank Future

Best Looking RPG: Mass Effect

Best Looking Sports Title: MLB 08: The Show

Best Looking Fighter: Dead or Alive 4

.......4 of the 6 genres are IMO led by PS3 exclusives. Sony has yet to release an exclusive fighter/rpg.....and what we have seen of them hasnt been enough to draw conclusions. (FFXIII & Tekken 6)

Uptown

You forgot best looking FPS which imo would have to be bioshock on 360. and if i really wanted to push it best looking strategy game would be command and conquer 3 on 360, evening the scores.

PS3: 2.0 TFLOPS

360: 1.0 TFLOPS

In terms of floating point calculations, PS3 >>>>>>>> 360.

CELL FTW! lol

C&C3 isnt 360 exclusive.....nor is BioShock....besides, Killzone 2 looks like its going to graphically wipe the floor with BioShock....further proving my point.

... I seriously hope this post is a joke. In terms of floating point calculations, PS3 may be above most high-end PC's; however, as a whole, PS3 doesn't have better graphics.

Yes it does Killzone2 uncharted and gt5 > crysis.

lol, not this again... First of all, floating point calculations are pretty much all that the Cell can do, so of course the PS3 would excel in this category... Second, most of those inflated numbers come from the RSX, which is terribly inefficient.... Third, the 360 is much better at general purpose calculations, which games require... Lastly, the 360's architecture is made for ultra efficiency, not unusable power... In the end the graphics are about the same. But you know what? The 360 started out with unbelievable graphics, and came out a full year earlier. So while Sony fanboys laid in wait, I was happily doing some next gen gaming... And yes, I will be getting a PS3....

I'm not sure I understand the logic of this thread. Why are we declaring the graphics was over based on one game? Using that logic it was over when GoW was released and no further games are allowed to be considered, which is what you're saying right? Uncharted is the best looking game (in your opinion) and nothing released on the 360 after can be considered?

Anyway, comparing different games isn't necessarily indicative of the hardware, why don't you compare the same games, i.e multiplats? Actually that argument would be suicide considering pretty much all the multiplats look better on the 360. :P
