Well, what he means by this is that the halo 3 games need a xbox 360 to run on. So, that means that all if their are more halo 3's preordered then there must be that many 360's.

No, his point is Halo 3 will move 360s, whichis true. However, people forget the Sony hasn't delivered their heavy hitters yet.

around 3.6mill were sold and 5.5 shipped of ps3s in 8 month.....and around 7 to 8 million were sold and 11 shipped in 20month......so actually ps3 is doing very good and can catch up in the nest 8 or 10 month to that number and it can even do better if theres a price drop and in december there will be some pretty good offers so even more will be sold......so ps3 is doing fine with its sales planbfreak4eva

M$ has already shipping almost 13 million 360 worldwide and have sold almost 11 million. I don't see the PS3 even starting to catch up until they drop the price of their PS3 at least $150+ within the next year. If M$ drops their price near the end of the year, it will even be harder for the PS3 to catch up. The PS3 has some great titles coming out at the end of the year, but casual gamers still won't pay $600 to play them. People thinking the PS3 is going to sell a few million once DMC4, FFXIII and MGS4 is released is dreaming. If the price is still $600 for the PS3, those games aren't going to push PS3 sales much closer to the 360 or Wii. Especially with Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock, PGR4 , Metroid, Mario Galaxy & Super Smash Bros Brawl coming out around the same time.

i know its very true....ps3 will only pass 360 by like 2011 or so...well thats what gamespot posted long time ago

Huh?!?! The month sales show the 360 has been outselling the PS3 by almost 2:1 for the past 4 months. Where have you been. Last month 360 sold 155,000, while the PS3 sold 82,000. The PS3 is falling behind the 360 and Wii every month. Even those the PS3 is outselling the 360 in Japan, the 360 is outselling the PS3 in the U.S. & Europe by such a high volumn it's negating the Japan sales. The PS3 can still recover, but Sony has to drop the price of the system by at least $150 or more. No one is going to pay $600 or even $500 for the PS3, if they can play the same games on the 360 for $400 or less.

The PS3 was barely outselling the X360 at launch, when the 360 was heavily supply constrained. It might have outsold it under same circumstances, I don't know, I don't care. This only occured during the first months... right now, launches aligned, the 360 is beating the PS3.

The X360 is widening the gap month to month, at least in the mix of NA and JP. This means, the differential between the PS3 and X360 is becoming bigger every month. I'm ignoring Europe because we don't have enough solid data of the region as a whole.

The 360 had less systems on retail shelves at that time. The 360 have almost 4 months of shortages. The PS3 had 1 month of shortages. You could find a 360 on retail shelves in Feb & Mar of 06, but PS3 were readily available the 1st week of Jan 07. This has already been discuss to death. Basically the only reason the PS3 sold more units in the 3 month launch period is because the 360 didn't have system available to sell at that time. If the 360 had launched with 3 million units worldwide it would have easily outsold the PS3 3 month launch period. It's that simple.

The 1st 8 months is pretty much meaningless. What really matters is how the system sells 2-3yrs AFTER the system launches. You still haven't said anything about the XBox360 shortages during those months. This is the ONLY reason the PS3 showed more sales. It wasn't that the 360 sold poorly during those 8 months. The problem is they didn't have any 360's to sell because they were ALL SOLD OUT everywhere. That wasn't the case for the PS3. They started piling up on retail shelves at the beginning od 2007 and they are still piling up right now.

If you launch-align sales, you'll end up with quite useless info, since you don't know if the gap is getting bigger, or shorter, or what.

If you time-align sales, you will see if a console is shortening the gap (as the Wii is right now) or if the gap is widening (Ps3).

Still, it's useless. Even if we launch-align everything, the 360 was selling more than 80k units per month in NA at this time last year, and was selling around 2-3k in japan, which means... it would be outselling the PS3 right now if both had launched at the same time.

Just accept it. The PS3 is underwhelming in sales right now, no matter how you look at it.

You're right. The PS3 did have a good launch. They cleared up their supply problems early on, and as soon as all the hardcore Sony fans bought the console they hit a serious wall. Aside from their launch in NA, Japan, and PAL, they have had atrocious sales. The 360 launch sales weren't much better, but they did have very serious supply problems all the way through April of '06. So I'll concede your point that they have sold a lot considering the price and lack of games, but the circumstances under which their sales took place were much different.
