Didnt really include the section on how the wii-mote sucks up a premium battery, (energizer, duracell) in under 3-5 hours. Ive only had to change my batteries on my 360 twice, and ive had it for 2 months. Aside from patting Sony on the back for things they havent done yet, it was one of the most unbiased posts yet. Though i can clearly see your a ps3 fanboy. I am not a fanboy i just see it like this. (360,Ps3,Wii) The wii is a fad, everything but wii sports they could have done on the gamecube.

Very good post and I agree with most of it except for IMO the 360 should have been rated lower in the games department as 90% of its games are on PC and are better on PC.

GRAPHICS

1. PS3... Best 1080p support. Always HDMI-ready.Best graphics for exclusives (think MGS4 vs. Halo 3). No contest.

For gaming? What? VGA outputs 1080p, so if the console doesnt have HDMI. Get VGA.

MGS 4 runs at 1024x768 with 20-29fps. FAIL.

EDIT:

CONTROLLER

1. WII... Standard controller support and let's face it, the Wii-Mote is more than a gimmick. With WiiFit and other creations, only system to have success with controllers that "think outside the box."

2. PS3... Tried and true PS3 design with rumble and Siraxis.

3. 360... New controller design not far behind PS3.

   Okay, now I know this BULLL. No hermit would say a PS3 controller is better.

Especially in first person shooters, Xbox 360's controller is MUCH more comfortable.

Good post, i'm pretty much a Sony fanboy with a little Nintendo fanboyism and i agree with pretty much everything.

Only thing is I only have 2 games that i like for the Wii, where as PS3 i have a bunch, so i guess the games thing just comes down to preference and i'd put PS3 above Wii personally.

Also the only SKU that doesnt have BC for PS3 is the 40gb, while the 80gb is limited it still plays like 80-90% of titles, which is what I think the 360's is.

Why is Xbox 360s controller in third again? Do you HONESTLY believe the PS3s controller is better than Xbox 360s? :o

Hermit here who still prefers the PC and has no big loyalties to any console but I've had a chance to play all three systems and here's my conclusion.

GRAPHICS

1. PS3... Best 1080p support. Always HDMI-ready. Best graphics for exclusives (think MGS4 vs. Halo 3). No contest.

2. 360... Quasi-HDTV. Not as much high res support as PS3 and HDMI wasn't even standard on the earlier 360 models.

3. WII... Feels like playing last gen's Xbox.

Actually, since the 360's scaler chip can upscale ALL games to 1080p, and the 360 has just as many native 1080p games and FEWER sub HDTV resolution games, I don't see how you can put the PS3 above the 360. Calling it "quasi HDTV" is honestly an ignorant statement.

GAME SELECTION

1. 360... No contest. So much more selection and variety than the other consoles. Even more JRPGs than PS3. Wierd.

2. WII... Not as much multi-platform support but getting there. Big early push of Nintendo franchise titles.

3. PS3... Still behind with its "released before it was ready" launch. Quickly catching up to Wii with franchise exclusives starting to appear.

Your tone in this passage starts to illuminate that you have a little more PS3/sony bias than you think. Sony still has 1 highly rated exclusive. To say it is "quickly" catching up is overstating things IMO.

ONLINE GAMING

1. 360... Still the king of online gaming even though it costs the most. Most add-ons, biggest servers, headsets standard.

2. PS3... Quickly getting there with each PSN patch, but trying to play catchup with Xbox Live.

3. WII... No talking, no typing, not much communication online. Slow online community with non-Nintendo franchises.

If taking over 1.5 years to get only some of XBL features is "quickly getting there", I'd hate to see what you consider taking their time. A little sony bias comes out again.

MULTIMEDIA

1. PS3... Blu-Ray, HDTV movie trailers online, various memory cards support, was meant to be a multimedia device.

2. 360... Picked the loser of HDTV disc wars. Still has DVD functionality and Windows behind it.

3. WII... Gaming console first and foremost.

You mention HDTV "TRAILERS" for the PS3 and ignore the full length HDTV MOVIES available on the 360? No mention of straming from a PC? You got the right order, but the 360 has more than you give it credit for.

SOCIAL GAMING

1. WII... The type of system to bring to your family reunion or college dormitory.

2. 360... Gets a boost with huge online community.

3. PS3... Pretty lonely console.

COST

1. WII... So much cheaper, no higher-priced models, very few extra purchases required.

2. 360... A step below PS3 on price but mostly through lack of Blu-Ray and ridiculous ommission of HDD this generation.

3. PS3... If you want the best (MGS4 bundle and HDMI cables) you're looking at $600 easy.

Only 1 model of the 360 is cheaper becaue of No BR drive and no HDD. The pro is still cheaper(now by 100 bucks) and DOES include a HDD.

SYSTEM POWER/SPECS

1. PS3... HDD standard, HDTV graphics standard, cell processor, etc.

2. 360... Not far behind PS3 but still lacks some of Sony's extras.

3. WII... Again, like playing a last gen system but Nintendo has gotten better.

Wow, you DO know the 360 has a better GPU than the PS3 right? Once again, the PS3 has MORE sub HD games than the 360. Before you make a topic like this perhaps a little more research in is order.

CONTROLLER

DS3 above the 360 controller? Your opinion is in the minority. If the left analog placement on the DS is the correct place for the primary input on the left side of the controller, then why wasn't the dpad located there before the analog sticks ever came out? THe DS is outdated and much less ergonomic than the 360 controller.

TRANSPORT/SIZE

1. WII... Smallest easiest to mount system.

2. 360... Smaller than PS3 and detachable HDD standard, etc.

3. PS3... Biggest bulkiest system.

TECHNICAL PROBLEMS/QUALITY ASSURANCE

1. WII... Least amount of problems reported.

2. PS3... Not far behind Wii now, but a lot of problem reported with earliest models of various PS3 designs.

3. 360... The dreaded red ring of death, need I say more.

BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY/RETRO GAMES ONLINE

1. WII... B/C is standard. Best selection online of ****c games primarily because Nintendo owns the rights.

2. 360... B/C is standard for the most part. Next best selection of online ****c games.

3. PS3... Most popular model doesn't have B/C. Poorest selection of online ****c games.

VALUE

1. PS3... You can find Blu-Ray players for almost the same price as the system. Nuff said. Free online that is starting to look identical to Xbox Live. 3-5 years from now, PS3 will feel the least outdated of all the consoles.

2. 360... At the time of its release, would cost you nearly a thousand dollars to build a PC that plays Oblivion like that. Free DVD player.

3. WII... Lowest price, but also lowest system specs and extras.

You have to pay extra for the PS3 "extras". IF ones wants br the PS3 is arguably a better value. If one doesn't(and HDTV penetration is still WELL under 50%), then the PS3 is a horrible value.

POTENTIAL

1. PS3.. Why do I get the feeling that MGS4 is just the beginning? PS3 was way behind on its launch and we're going to see some mind-blowing games that take advantage of the specs and Blu-Ray. Tomorrow, PSN will almost be on par with Xbox Live with its features, and it's free! All it needs is the same size online community. PS3 was always projected as the longterm winner, and lately it's been showing.

2. WII... Nintendo suffered because no one really gave it a chance. Now that it's the #1 seller, third-party companies are jumping on the bandwagon as fast as they can. The Wii-Mote's potential is unlimited if used for more than just a casual game utility. When developers start developing exclusives that suit Wii's lower specs and games that add Wii-Mote functions that server as more than a few quick afterthoughts, we're going to see some great games!

3. 360... Sorry lemmings, but while 360 has the obvious headstart right now with software, I just don't see as much potential on the horizon. I don't see a Sega collapse like the Dreamcast, but sometimes being the first out the gate hurts your longrun potential. I can't wait for games like Fable 2 and the rumored KOTOR 3, but I'm much more excited about PS3 and the 3rd party companies that are now jumping on the Wii bandwagon.

Seriously, this section needs to be removed, as its ALL speculation. Sony has been using the potential card for the past 3 generations and has YET to live up to it. THis section REALLY makes you to appear to be VERY Sony biased.

TOTALS

WII - 5 3rd place votes, 2 2nd place votes, 6 1st place votes --- TOTAL OF 27 POINTS

PS3 - 5 3rd place votes, 3 2nd place votes, 5 1st place votes --- TOTAL OF 26 POINTS

360 - 3 3rd place votes, 8 2nd place votes, 2 1st place votes --- TOTAL OF 25 POINTS

Steppy_76

All your categories are worth the same, problem 1(IE having the best games library on a GAMES console should be worth a tad more than ease of transport). You gave the PS3 way too much benefit of the doubt and credit for stuff they haven't done yet. You also seem to have a lot of misconceptions of things also(your PS3 = HDTV, x360= quasi HDTV nonsense). Your post was a good one, though tons of opionon and a few outright false observations.

If EVERY point you made was not Pro-360 and Anti-PS3, maybe you would have some points, but seeing your sig and knowing you're a 360 Fanboy, I guess you have your opinion.

Excellent post, although the tranport section is sorta useless since either way you have to carry all the controllers and such (And possibly HD-DVD, Wireless adapter, and HDD for the 360). Ps3 and Wii are just kinda pick up and go.

When his "unbiased" post was obviously biased towards the PS3, the things pointed out are going to be xbox 360. I am pro 360, but I'm not anti sony. I give credit where credit is due, but I won't give Sony credit for things before they are due. Every point he made basically gave Sony a free pass for things they don't have, he ignored things the 360 does have, etc. Show someplace where he made an incorrect statement in a negative manner for the PS3 and one where he made an incorrect statement in favor of the 360.

The cost for one, which he fails to take into account a wireless adaptor as well, and the Hardware, where he completely ignores the Cell Processor which is much more powerful than anything the PS3 has.

Not to mention where he tried to make the 360 a better media player and graphics? Uhh...no. Blu-Ray media > DVD or even the HD DVD add on.

Also the whole "360 controller is way bettar cuz i have chubby hands and it fits me" is getting stupid, as is the "PS3 is so expensive it cant have most value!1!!" Well Sony has been noted for losing money on each console, so obviously you're getting a heck of a deal for what they put in it, as opposed to the Wii and 360, which, to my distaste, have been earning off of each console from day one.

You know, have fun buying a new controller once your battery dies out; as the battery isn't removable or replaceable, when it dies the whole controller needs to be replaced or sent for repairs. What a great design Sony.

I can't speak for other hermits, but I think most hermits would not even attempt to compare controllers on first-person shooters since most hermits are probably addicted to mouse/keyboard. I don't even bother trying shooters on consoles other than the occasional rented game. Mouse/Keyboard and all the perks of PC (like bigger servers, custom maps, etc) make that genre so much more superior on PC, it's not even worth trying the console versions, especially since most of them are on PC. Wii-Mote is the only control design for me that has come close to matching the speed and smoothness of a mouse, and for me, that makes it the superior controller. It's too bad that Wii has the lowest specs, because the two genres that could use it the most -- shooters and real time strategy -- need the most system specs.

You also seem to have a lot of misconceptions of things also(your PS3 = HDTV, x360= quasi HDTV nonsense). Your post was a good one, though tons of opionon and a few outright false observations.

To address a few of your points, you accuse me of being pro-PS3, and maybe I come across that way because I recently purchased the MGS4 bundle, but you also come across as a big 360 homer. LOL I am still PC all the way. I am bored with my Wii, and I'm sure the PS3 will run out of excitement once I play all the games it offers. (Which isn't much. LOL)

  • One big reason I lowered 360 on specs is because of Microsoft trying to pass off units without a hard drive. (It's not just processors and RAM) Omission of the hard drive is incredibly stupid for next gen games. It's what made me an Xbox fan in the first place last gen. HDDs should be standard for any 'next gen' games. Wii still feels like last gen with its games and doesn't need it but I hope developers start requiring HDDs on the 360 instead of trying to make a game that can use flash memory.
  • It's hard for me to compare native 1080p on 360 and PS3 because Microsoft cheats and labels any game that can be displayed in that res as 1080p on the back of the game box. Even if it isn't native. PS3 does not do this.
  • I said Sony is quickly catching up to Wii on games because the exclusives are starting to appear and no offense to sheep, but frankly, I would rather play 3 of Sony's most popular cross-platform games -- GTA4, Oblivion and Call of Duty 4 -- then all the Mario, Zelda and Metroid franchises combined.
  • 360 is lowered in multimedia because it picked the loser. (HD-DVD) I don't care what is available online. If you buy a PS3, you buy the true multimedia machine for HDTV now that Blu-Ray is the one and only participant. Trying to justify 360 higher than PS3 is fanboyish to extreme levels.
  • I'm not sure why you're even complaining about my price rankings because I DID rank 360 higher than PS3, and obviouisly the 360 won't beat the Wii. Again, you come across as a 360 fanboy more than an objective analyst.
  • You complain about my online rankings, but again, I think you'll find most people agree. 360 first, PS3 second, and Wii third. Again, I'm not sure what you're complaining about. I dont' care if it took 2 years for PSN to equal Xbox Live's features. The fact is it has them, and they are superior to Wii's online features. PSN just needs the same large userbase online as 360 or it doesn't matter what it offers.
  • As for the potential rankings, i don't think it's fanboyish at all. It's common sense. All 3 companies revealed their intentions and obstacles from the start. Nintendo suffered from 3rd party support and most developers thought this might be their last attempt. Remember all the threads about Nintendo becoming a 3rd party and developing for Sony or Microsoft in System Wars? Well... you don't see those anymore. Developers are scrambling to develop exclusives or games that fully utilize the Wii-Mote now that Nintendo is the #1 seller. It's no secret that PS3 was released prematurely. C'mon, the BIGGEST franchise exclusives are a Gran Turismo PROLOGUE and just NOW, a Metal Gear Solid sequel? Xbox already had a Halo sequel, a Ninja Gaiden sequel, a Forza sequel, and several quality franchise boosters like Gears of War. Nintendo already had the next Mario, Metroid, Zelda, Mario Kart and Smash Brothers. Xbox released its load early and is now waiting for what developers can create. PS3 is just now starting to release its big projects, and with the programming troubles on PS3, its seen some delays as well. Wii is just now starting to sign the big projects because its proven it can sell. Xbox 360 has some good near future projects, mostly cross PC games, but I feel like we've already seen the full potential of 360. We have yet to see many PS3 games that use its specs to the fullest or Wii games that really take advantage of a Wii-Mote.

I wouldn't know about battery life because I use NimH rechargeable for everything. If anyone uses regular batteries and not rechargable or lithium on any electronics these days, that's their fault, not the company. LOL

So after all this, all 3 systems are basically equal?
