hey i haven't got a ps3 yet and i was wondering what it is like i have played it at shops but i need someone who has takin it home and played it on there own TV. Tell me what has failed on you and what has been a blast
I own a PS3, in addition to both newer consoles, and I am having a blast with it so far.
Contrary to popular belief, it's a great console with no lack of games to play. My biggest gripe with it is the lack of scaling software for games like resistance that do not run in 1080i. I have a 1080i TV that does not support 720p and games like that downscale to 480p. Thankfully, a new 46" 1080p tv is on its way and the PS3 should become the new, dominant (due to its high-def capabilities) part of my entertainment center.
PS: Resistance online is just as good as everyone says.

I have the PS3 and the 360 but I can tell you I find it a great console but unless you really like the current games I wouldn't reccomnd buying it yet. I would definetly later though if you want one. Even though atm I play my 360 more(rainbow 6), I couldnt truely say its worth all the money without using the bluray features. I feel the same way for the 360 tho on the fact that I dont think its even worth the money atm. As far as problems, I havnet had anyway and rather enjoyed the free online services.

Games-wise, the 360 has had a year start and the only game worth mentioning is Gears of War which only came out a year after the 360 launched, but it doesn't compete with Resistance's Online (40 people, 20 vs 20, huge maps, more weapons = more fun). The Blu-ray player is there for a reason and that is 50 effing gigs of games. Resistance is arleady pushing 16 gigs, and it's a launch title. Already there are signs of games reaching full capacity (MGS4). And if you didn't know, more space on the disc means faster loading times (If developers choose to do it) and faster texture streaming. So the PS3 is the better console in every way. With new exclusives coming to it, like Heavenly Sword and Lair. And some old oldies but goldies like MGS4 (Last game in the series, which is good because milking is BAD [refer to Halo]). Basically don't buy the entire "If you don't like the current titles" BS because you can't tell if you'll like them or not without playing them. You said you played it... that should give you enough insight. I'm merely stating why it's the better console. (It is System Wars, isn't it?)

"I heard" alone means you don't know what you're talking about. I don't like Gears but I can't deny the fact that it's a quality title and it BOOSTED 360 sales. The reason I say there are no more games worth mentioning is because Gears is the ONLY game that moved consoles. The rest did it too but at such an unsignificant amount that they are just "Not worth mentioning". Resistance, a launch title is moving consoles all around the world now that the PS3 launched WW, and that's also a fact you can't deny. Resistance is a launch title, and it sold more PS3s in the first 4 months in the US alone than 4-5 launch games for the 360 did with it's console. So yeah, Resistance is a quality title, no doubt.

Rent Resistance before you buy it. It's not as good as some people make out. Motorstorm is a little bit shallow. Those are the only full games I've got on PS3 so I can't comment on other games. The online is ok. If you don't have a HDTV, get one.

Soulxxx, your opinion maybe "the only game worth mentioning is Gears of War"; however, there are literally millions of people with opinions that state otherwise (judging by sales). The xbox 360 had: Gears of War, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Viva Pinata, GRAW, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, Crackdown, Table Tennis, Project Gotham Racing 3.
So really, these are all "quality" titles besides GeOW. Don't give me anything that argues against that because you have no right to say anything about them since you haven't played them; and with all of these games having on average, from all editorials, AA-AAA scores, it's a FACT that these games are "quality" titles.

I agree. I use to have a 1080i TV that didn't support 720p. But now I upgraded to a new HDTV. I have all next gen consoles and right now I play my PS3 more than anything else. Blu-Ray movies are a huge plus too, especially if yuo have a 40" plus HDTV. I have a 51". I highly recommend getting one. Resistance is a sure killer app and there's also Oblivion, Motorstorm, and VF5 for other great games. But mostly it is a great deal due to it's potential and longevity. Especially once more killer apps release soon (Heavenly Sword and Lair in May) and Home debuts this fall.
Liquid_47, Why is the 360 the better console then? I don't get it, this is system wars where you have to debate consoles, not which has the better games. I mean, yeah games are a factor, but it's not the ONLY factor, and definately not conclusive when you're speaking about which console is better in terms of specs.

soulxx i know you have an opinion but i think its blinded by fanboyism to say that gears is the only quality title and to say halo was the only quality title on the xbox, people have already mentioned more than enough great quality titles that the 360 has now, the xbox also had so many great titles such as kotor, doa, fable, pgr, forza and many more. sorry for going offtopic but this aint the best place to put a ps3 topic either ;)
I've got a PS3 ,360 and a gaming PC and I very happy with my PS3.There's overenough games to keep me busy till more come out and being able to watch HiDef movies is a major plus. If you have a decent HDTV you wont go wrong with a PS3.

Having a PS3 is ok. Its nothing to get really excited about... yet. I'm sure I'll enjoy it more when the better games start coming out. Right now the games seem like they're either not good, or already on my 360.
 i hated the 360 and was a ps1 and ps2 gamer for years and years....however, while the console is very solidly built, and sturdy, and aesthetically appealing, it didnt have any games that made me thi k the price was justified. i returned it and went wii60 and its the best.Â
I love the PS3. Nothing bad about it so far. You'll love it for sure. It's a great fealing once you take a PS3 out of the box for the first time. It looks so dang sexy! =)

The Wii isn't in competition with the PS3, because it's selling 5x faster? 360 only has Gears of War? What about Kameo, R6V, GRAW 1 & 2, Oblivion, COD3, etc. which, if the PS3 got, it got the poorer version of the game that looks uglier. (Aside from Oblivion, I'll give you that, but 360 owners played it a YEAR ago). As far as Gears vs. Resistance, since when is 40 man online better than a smaller closer match where the tide turns a lot easier and there is more hanging on the abilities of the individuals? As far as the Blu-ray drive goes, it's there so you can buy up Blu-ray movies like cookies to support Sony's big stake in the new format. 50 gig games? Uncompressed maybe. Higher quality audio? Not many people have a nice big A/V receiver and awesome surround sound speakers. MGS4 is huge file sizes because it's all CGI cut scenes. It's not called Metal Gear Cutscene, etc. for nothing. Have fun watching your 50 gig video game movie. Resistance is 16 gigs uncompressed and yet doesn't compare to games a quarter that size on 360? And if *you* didn't know Blu-ray drives are slower than DVD so have fun with your longer loading times. The PS3 is a good console, but one worth waiting 2 years to buy. A few price drops, and a few games worth owning maybe there. My favorite part of this post is the fact that MGS FOUR isn't milking, but Halo THREE is. Wait, aren't the cows waiting for Final Fantasy THIRTEEN? Is there even a word for that? It's far beyong milking a franchise that's for sure, considering even the first FF was supposed to be the developer's last game.
I've said it before and will say it again... right now (as in April '07) Xbox360 is a better choice unless you have a big Blu-Ray movie collection. The current PS3 exclusives are great but not on a scale of MGS4, FFXIII, etc... and are not necessairly system sellers. I'm not saying PS3 doesn't have the potential and will not have great games in the future but by that time there might be a price cut so waiting would be a win-win situation. But after all these are just "MY" opinions so ultimately the choise is yours.

I knew eventually a good exclusive game will probably come out on the PS3 and I'll be forced to buy that console just for that game.
So I thought why not buy it now, enjoy GT HD (one of the best racing series ever made), then let it collect dust until MGS4 comes out.
Also here is the list of games I have:
1- Resistance (boring as hell) 2- Motorstorm (***), an average game 3- Ridge Racer 7 (a good game, better than RR6) 4-VF5 (***), lovely graphics, no one I know interested in playing it 5- Tekken Resurrection. Bad graphics, excellent gameplay. 6- Flow (I loved this game, I have it's cross-media bar title music ripped into mp3 via optical out). 7- several other arcade titles (lemmings, blast factor, suduku, and some others).
So to be honest, even though I own one, I have to admit it really sucks.
P.S. the other day I was at a games store near my house, and I asked the shop owner if he had Virtua Tennis for the X360. The guy didn't have it in stock and offered me the PS3 version instead.
He gave me a look of "whatever" when I told him, "no thanks, the X360 version is better".
So the moral of this story is; casuals don't know any better and they really think the PS3 is better. You (a hardcore gamer) on the other hand is better than that, so don't make a mistake and buy a PS3 unless you're like me, have to have MGS4 and GT5 (or whatever PS3 exclusive game that justifies the purchase for you)

I don't have one, but I will tell you a story, one that is 100 percent true, and one that is very sad indeed. It all starts on launch day for the PS3. My friend, being completly obessed with Sony, gets one: to sell. He couldn't fins a 60gig, so he got the core. Couldn't sell. He gets it out and has a balst with Need for Speed, Call of Duty, and Resistence. Or so he thought. Then when Motorstrom came along, I asked him if he had it, he said yeah. So I told him it floped on Gamespot, and he said "No wonder, I didn't really like the game either." So, now, he got a killer deal of an old sports car (I can't remember how much, it was between 500 and 1000 dollars) and now... He is thinking about selling his PS3 for some parts for his new car.
The PS3 is fully equipped for anything you want. It's the best console out of the three (Well, the Wii isn't really a competition). That is in terms of specs.
Games-wise, the 360 has had a year start and the only game worth mentioning is Gears of War which only came out a year after the 360 launched, but it doesn't compete with Resistance's Online (40 people, 20 vs 20, huge maps, more weapons = more fun).
The Blu-ray player is there for a reason and that is 50 effing gigs of games. Resistance is arleady pushing 16 gigs, and it's a launch title. Already there are signs of games reaching full capacity (MGS4). And if you didn't know, more space on the disc means faster loading times (If developers choose to do it) and faster texture streaming.
So the PS3 is the better console in every way. With new exclusives coming to it, like Heavenly Sword and Lair. And some old oldies but goldies like MGS4 (Last game in the series, which is good because milking is BAD [refer to Halo]). Basically don't buy the entire "If you don't like the current titles" BS because you can't tell if you'll like them or not without playing them.
You said you played it... that should give you enough insight. I'm merely stating why it's the better console. (It is System Wars, isn't it?)Soulxxx
What? You say Halo is milked??? It has only had 2 games! Halo and Halo 2, and it will probably finish with Halo 3 and will have that RTS Halo Wars and that's all. MGS has had MGS 1, MGS 1: Twin Snakes, MGS 2: Sons of Liberty, MGS 2: Substance, MGS 3: Snake Eater, MGS 3: Subsistence, Metal Gear Acid, Metal Gear Acid 2, MGS: Portable Ops and MGS4 and you say Halo is milked? Lol cow... moo... moo.
hey i haven't got a ps3 yet and i was wondering what it is like i have played it at shops but i need someone who has takin it home and played it on there own TV. Tell me what has failed on you and what has been a blastx3q7rr
I picked up the 60GB version a couple of months back and I have no gripes with it at all. It's a fantastic console. I love the XMB as it's easy to use and has a nice clean look. The games are great. Resistance, Motorstorm, Oblivion, Fight Night, Need for Speed, etc. I'm a little frustrated about the delays on a few of the bigger name games, but I'm optimistic and the extra development time can only be a good thing. The BluRay player is an awesome thing to have. Not all BluRay's look great, but the one's that are done right look amazing. The browser is also a very nice bonus. Surfing the web on my 55inch LCD from the comfort of my couch is awesome. The sixaxis controller hasn't been used to great effect yet, but it was fun to use in the Godfather and will definitely be great for flight games. The graphics are definitely outstanding. If you've seen anyone play Motorstorm on an HD TV, you'll know what I'm talking about. Contrary to what some believe, I found Resistance to be pretty impressive graphically. I stopped a few times while playing just to take a look at all the details and when you see the snow in that game, it's easily the best weather effect I've seen in any game ever. One of the most important factors is the value of the system. Regardless of what fanboys tell you, the PS3 easily has the most value of all three next gen consoles.

Contrary to popular belief, it's a great console with no lack of games to play. My biggest gripe with it is the lack of scaling software for games like resistance that do not run in 1080i. I have a 1080i TV that does not support 720p and games like that downscale to 480p. Thankfully, a new 46" 1080p tv is on its way and the PS3 should become the new, dominant (due to its high-def capabilities) part of my entertainment center.
PS: Resistance online is just as good as everyone says.
