Why would one be different from another in this regard? Either you think they are cool or you don't. Either you play games to get points towards bragging rights or you just simply pay the game.
I'm not sure what you point is.
They're both a waste of time, but so are games in general. I will say though, that achievements have made me play a game more thoroughly, but aren't enough to make me play a game over and over again. They're best suited as multiplayer awards, rather than single player, I think.TimeToPartyHard
That's the way i look at them.
I don't own a 360, so I can't say exactly how I would be. But I have never, never been one to replay a game to find more coin or secrets. Just like you, I think i would look harder for things as I play through to gain points. But I don't think I'd change anything else.

Achievement points are like real-life experience points. It kind of makes gaming just a little more rewarding. Do I brag about my points? No, but it does encourage me to go back to the game to get more.[QUOTE="Cooldude224"]Wow. First Sony copys the Wii and motion controls, now its copying achivements? So then MS cant make a console just because Sony made one? Wow I dont know what to say. You could say that sony copied nintendo or sega by making the PS1. But that would just be stupid.

Im not saying they cant copy them (because they aready have) Im saying they need to be more creative and come up with their own ideas.

Lulz MS couldn't come up with their own idea so they just made a console like Sony!!!11
Achievements sound cooler! Accomplishments remind me of school......XileLord
Achievement awards are offered in school too, what you think the Honor roll is.
I am far from an Achievement scout, but I do enjoy hearing that ping when I finish something. I actually am looking forward to the PS3 coming out with their own version of them in a more standardized setting.
There is something nice about accomplishing something and being rewarded for it, even with something that has no real value. When done well, some can push you to dig deeper into a game and find more things to enjoy about the game.

MS should stick to what they know best, stealing and raping you, look what Gates did to IBM, Microsoft rapes you on all there products.
Microsoft does make some quality software. Not all of it is great, but alot is very solid. And they force no one to buy their products. Feel free to use Ubuntu, Open Office, FireFox, etc. You are never forced to use MS products.
And they are not some evil empire.

I'll say it this "Microsoft has the Business offices on lock" how often do you hear anything else then Microsoft Office. Thats like saying Sony forced people to by Blu-Ray, when they didnt.
The question is how are you going to be able to view these Sony Accomplishments? I mean do you have to walk into every gamers virtual Home just to view these things? The beauty with XBL is that you could view gamers achievements and gamerscore and what they're playing and doing online all in an instant. I already have a feeling Home would just be so slow for you to even do those things.
Also Acheivements aren't a waste of time. In the recent EGM, I read an article where MS game away games to people who had over 10, 000 or so gamerscore and get 1,500 a month. They were rewarded.

Businesses use it because it is the simplest solution. Open Office is fine, but is much harder for new users to figure out what to do. Add to that that many companies have been using Office for years and its easy to see why they would continue to use it.
gaming on the whole is a waste of time. Dont try to make any part of it seem more viable than any other part. this entire hobby is is pointless.

then why are you posting on a website called GameSpot?

Actually, reading books is a far more profitable endeavour than playing games.[QUOTE="Cooldude224"][QUOTE="JPOBS"]gaming on the whole is a waste of time. Dont try to make any part of it seem more viable than any other part. this entire hobby is is pointless.

because i enjoy it.whats the point of playing games? why does something have to have a point? unless you consider "to have fun" as a legitimate, tangible point to playing games. i consider that more of a result from playing games than a point to playing them.

reading books can lead to gained knowledge and understanding, also it has practical uses. Ex, reading a textbook to study for a exam and earn a degree in a field. reading a cookbook for a recipe, reading a book to broaden your understanding of the world etc.If you love playing games then achievements isn't a waste because achievements is a game within a game.

Gaming would best be compared to reading for enjoyment, in which case, both can offer the same gain in knowledge, not only in learning new things, but also in the gained cognitive skills and spatial reasoning skills.
