Even I started to believe a little bit of the hype, but as it turns out, the PS3 still cant even pass the 360 in monthly NA sales (which doesnt bode well when considering Halo 3 is coming out in Sept, and the the 360 is getting a price drop of its own) but worst of all, PS3's exclusives are flopping left right and center. What's more, the Wii is absolutley freakin crushing everything in sight.

The 360 and the Wii are getting big games this Christmas that are gauranteed to deliver huge sales (Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Galaxy, Brawl, MP3) and big scores. I don't think it's wise to put the same faith in Sony's offerings at this point.

Just like Sony though.... overhyping and under-delivering....

Honestly, I'm incredibly disappointed. Phil Harrison failed me in a big way. The first party titles were supposed to rush in and saturate the market in gaming goodness. That's literally Phil Harrison's obligation. He screwed up with Motorstorm, Genji, Warhawk, and Heavenly Sword.

Although Lair isn't under his jurisdiction, it's failure is well noted by people skeptical of the Playstation 3. Literally, Phil Harrison's failure notes a seriously marked drop in interest in the Playstation 3.

In reality, I'm expecting the only decent first party titles coming out of Sony studios to be from the top tier, such as Corey Barlog, Insomniac, Sucker Punch, Media Molecule, and Naughty Dog. Guerilla is a possibility, but it's primarily based on how much they've changed.

I'm extremely upset to learn how short all of these games are and how light they are on gameplay, regardless of their absolutely movie-busting production values. Heavenly Sword's got it in spades, but what the hell, where did the gameplay go? I'm just mind-numbingly irritated right now.

Then again, if Warhawk scores 8.5 or above, I'll restore some semblance of faith in these folks. Echochrome looks fantastic but it's not what people are looking for on PS3 (superb downloadable titles are a plus, and even bad ones aren't a minus...but little spruced up PC casual games with high particle counts and enhanced physics don't sell consoles).

The only game that I can say I have an extreme amount of faith in, knowing the developers and having played Resistance: Fall of Man, is Ratchet and Clank Future: ToD.

We'll see how it goes, but TC speaks the truth. Far too much floppage, far too much insanity as far as region-locked price drops.

Nice post. An honest opinion from a PS3 owner. I, too, started to buy-into the PS3 hype from E3 and was thinking about a purchase, but now I'll just wait to see what happens with MGS4 (score-wise and if it stays exclusive) and what KZ2 ends up being.

Cows hyped RFOM, Motorstorm, VF5, Lair, Warhawk, HS, and many others only to have each not meet expectations (ie - flop). Potentially, Ratchet and Uncharted are two extremely heavy hitters. I put them above any game coming out this year, besides perhaps Crysis and Mass Effect.

i think ratchet is the only real system seller the ps3 has this year -- uncharted will flop, it just isn't long enough from what i've read so far. like you said in your other post, too many of ps3s big hitters are lacking in gameplay and length, uncharted might have the gameplay and cool animations but i think it's short length and lack of mp will kill it.

Yes, M$ is not losing any money on their XBox 360's anymore, but their gaming division is still in debt unfortunately. By the end of the 1st quarter (or maybe 2nd) of 2008, they should be out of the red. A strong holiday period will tell the tale. Sony is still losing money in their gaming division. They still have to pay back that loan they took out last year.

Cows said that they would 'owns' the 07 Christmas season with their exclusive releases. Well, now that Heavenly Flop seems to be flopping big time (right after the floppage of Warhawk, Lair and Madden), they point to 08 as the real time when the PS3 will 'owns'. How happy Sheep and Lemmings will be when the floppage continues well into 08.

From what I've read, the PS3 is indeed in a difficult position. The price drop (or fire sale depending on where you stand) did not really set the ball rolling for Sony again, at least not as fast as they need it to be. Also disconcerting is the early negative previews of some of the "big hitters" that Sony is (or at least their fans are) toting. Of course things could change with said games and it could all be just hot air, but whatever, this can affect the sales of said games (you know what they are).

That said, all is not lost for the PS3, not yet anyway. Things do change, and while a major comeback is unprecedented in this industry, it isn't impossible, just improbable. If Sony can fix what's wrong with the PS3, get more games out (more than the perceived trickle right now), and get some positive press out there (God knows they need it), they may pull through with better-than-Gamecube sales... maybe. There is currently no hope for them to catch the Wii at the Wii's current pace so a comfortable second/third/tie is probably an optimal (and fully possible) situation.

I often come across as a full fledged Lemming. And even though i have an X360 (i also have a PS2), i'm very level headed and a lil too mature to get caught up in the whole System Wars mindset.

Now that i've given a disclaimer...

I'm very surprised in the early reviews of the games coming out for the games that were poised to give the PS3 a holiday boost. There is obviously something going on. There is no way that this many developers are "not talented enough" to develop for the PS3. I'm a developer by profession, and anyone who is not intelligent enough will get weeded out of this industry pretty quickly.

this fact causes me draw my attention to Sony. It sounds like Sony needs to take a good hard look at their development tools and API.

That being said, I think UT3 is going to keep the PS3 afloat this winter. Epic knows how to make great games. Rachet will also be an interesting game, i think. And when is SOCOM going to be released. That game will attract a TON of gamers (if they werent turned off by SOCOM3).

I too am a Lemming but I totally agree with this post. The development tools seem to be hampering the quality of games on the PS3. Perhaps some of this has been demonstrated by most ports been better on the 360? Time will tell if this is indeedthe case. If it is not, the PS3 is done as obviously the 360is a better gaming platform.

mass effect got pushed back until next year and even though comparing to system wars, blue dragon isn't a flop yet, but it haven't been getting stellar reviews from some gaming sources, and scene-it??!?!?!?!? i didn't even know about that game until i read it in your post, expect it to either get pushed back until 08 or to flop

mass effect hasn't been delayed and blue dragon has gotten pretty good reviews from Japanese websites like fam...you know what i am talking about? i cant spell it... i think it was 37/40, also team xbox gave it 8.5, computer and video games 9/10 so its gotten some good reviews

What they really need to do is squeeze at least one AAA game out of that trickle. Oh, and they need to convince studios not to drop the Blu-ray format. Good luck...

mass effect hasn't been delayed and blue dragon has gotten pretty good reviews from Japanese websites like fam...you know what i am talking about? i cant spell it... i think it was 37/40, also team xbox gave it 8.5, computer and video games 9/10 so its gotten some good reviews

Yea but lemmins seem to want to call the PS3 games a flop based on some of the reviews. Warhawk got a 9 at 1up. HS got a 9+ at gametrailers, 9 from play, 9 from nexgenireland.
