[QUOTE="Ragnarok1051"]Crisis Core put the PSP above the DS in Japan FOR A WEEK, and that wasn't even a main Final Fantasy. Imagine what sales will be like when 13 releases.Ragnarok1051

Fixed.

The PS3 getting a boost in Japan for a week or two isn't going to put it in the lead.

Who said it would be that short? I think you underestimate the influence of FF. And no the PSP was above the DS for more than one week.

And I think you are overestimating the influence of FF. It's a great series, but it won't monumentally improve sales bringing it into first place.

he one struggeling at the moment is Microsoft because the 360 is almost out of bang now that all the big games have been released and the format war has been decided. Eventually PS3 will have a better online service (Home) with better achievements and better publicity for the developers.

Also sony has more franchises to work with because they had them from PSX -> PS2 -> PS3. Even so the PS2 is outselling the 360 and all those PS2 buyers will eventually go to the PS3 because they are used to the system and the games.

360=dead PS3 just beginning.

I never said it would put the PS3 in first place, but I believe it will help the PS3 outsell the Wii for a while and then slow the gap in sales. The PS3 will need more than just FF to help them in Japan.

it's more likely that they've hopped on over to the wii camp.

Yeah the PS2 didn't house 120 million hardcore gamers, it was home to the casuals. The Wii is that home this gen until the PS3 has a lower price and more casual friendly games.

LFMAO at the people who actually believe this. HDDVD supporters saying PS3 is dead is quite ammusing. And fore something so dead, sure keeps a hell of a lot of people occupied.

It's odd that somebody would make this topic when for the first time the PS3 is consistently outselling the 360 worldwide. I think the TC is making some rather large assumptions. I could do the same thing and say that the PS3 will rocket past the 360 this year(when it's most hyped exclusives come out) because it's already outselling the 360 by a considerable margin at a higher price point with no (Gamespot) AAAEs.

What you fail to relize is that the combination of all these games, and some underdogs, will significantly boost the sales. Mabey not to the level some people think, but it will help.

QFT. Best thing that could've been said here and is pretty much the truth.

PS3 is dead when PS3 units aren't being made anymore. Not a second before.

oh man. I'm so sick of you people telling me what the last game sold on PS2. This is the series finale for one and it's one a next-gen console. People want to see what MGS4 can do on a machine like the PS3. Case in point, the non-stop posting and statements that the game is going to 360. If people didn't care about the game or weren't interested so many people that own the other console wouldn't be sweating the game so hard. MGS4 is going to sell big time and the PS3 is far from dead Edit: in the water.

BTW, what's the difference between being dead and being dead in the water? Is it so significant that it warrants an edit?

the only thing that can possible save the ps3 in terms of sales is blu-ray winning, and the news which says that the ps3 is the only current blu-ray player which will support future upgrades to the format.

also the combination of all these good exclusives coming out as well as multiplats like GTA and DMC which people are used to on ps consoles will boost sales somewhat.

In my opinion the PS3 already permanently crawled out of the water by winning the format war..

People have a very unbalanced idea on the whole next-gen competition. According to vgchartz.com(depending on how acurate they are)the Xbox 360 has sold 16.33M units while the PS3 has sold 8.96M. That might seem impressive until you factor in that the Xbox 360 had a one year head start. Taking the time these consoles have been on the market into account with thier total sales to date, the Xbox 360 averages 628,026 units per month while the PS3 sells 640,000 units per month.

By that logic the PS3 is very much alive and with the soon to be released blockbuster games and the recent Blu-ray takeover that gap will get bigger and bigger. You M$ guys had a good run, but its not going to last!

Edit: Because I'm being roasted like a steak on a grill, I've changed it to read "The PS3's dead in the water", which is more what I meant. I'm sorry people mis-understood, but I'm talking about sales here... not quality of games. I've also left out some games (GoW III, GT5, etc.), but I feel that the situation is unchanged, especially for GT5, in which it already is competing with a better quality Forza 2.

That's right. The PS3 is dead (in the water). I've listed the games that people are saying will save the console... and then I'm saying why they won't.

- Final Fantasy XIII will save the console.

Final Fantasy XIII does look to be an outstanding game... but, remember that Final Fantasy XII sold 3.68 million. Even if the new one does reach the numbers of Final Fantasy X (which reached over 5 million), it still won't move enough consoles to save to PS3. Judging by the current numbers (the latest NPD numbers), it should be obvious that even five million won't be enough to catch up to the 360. And that's inferring that every person buying the new Final Fantasy didn't own the PS3 previously.

- Metal Gear Solid 4 will save the console.

Just like the new Final Fantasy, MGS4 looks to be an incredible game... but, remember that the previous installment sold 3.6 million (about the same number as FFXII). Yet again, those sort of numbers won't be enough to move the number of consoles needed to overtake the 360 and the Wii -- and that's inferring again, that every person buying it hasn't owned the PS3. Again, it's just not enough consoles being moved.

- LittleBigPlanet will save the console.

Though it looks like a totally amazing and unique experience, in my idea, it looks more akin to what's going on with Zack & Wiki on the Wii. Though it's been critically acclaimed, Zack has barely sold any units... and it looks like that's what'll happen to LittleBigPlanet. When people buy the PS3, most of the games they want fit into the Final Fantasy and MGS4 categories... these sort of games, though fun, look to flounder in that sort of market (my opinion of course, though).

I just can't see the PS3 finding any success in the near future, despite the high caliber titles coming out for it. I didn't even bother to mention Haze... just like the other games, it looks like it'll be a critical success, but if Crysis couldn't sell well... why would Haze? Even so... "gamers" are still fixed on their Halo. And that might not change anytime soon.

So, with the high price of a PS3, games that won't sell enough to save it, and numbers that are less than it's older counterpart (the PS2) in sales... I say this with confidence:

TheWii is dead (in the water).

consider this:

Ps3 did quite a bit better than Xbox 360s first year in HW sales, despite having a significantly higher price and quite a few less compelling games, as well as having a poor reputation overall. Those are facts.

If you look at it's future titles for this year and next, and sony's overall effort to keep ps3s price competitive as of late, things can really only get even better unless something crazy happens that we don't know about.

I don't understand why cows keep saying this. Do you have proof that the PS3 sold better than the 360 did in its first year? Am I missing something? MS shipped 10.4 million 360s in just over a year. Is there a link or something that I can look at that says that Sony did better?
