PS4 hit 13.5 million shipped at the end of September.

Absolutely insane numbers! Great job Sony. PS4 is the fastest selling console ever at this point. (Wii was at 13.1) Wonder where Xbox One is at? Console gaming is definitely not dead.

Hoooooly shit, that is amazing. Congratulations, Sony, that's some good stuff there.

Now get around to actually giving me games, and we'll be good.

I thought it be higher, but I can easily see it selling over 15+ million by years end. Hopefully they have something good to show in their December event.

Congrats to them. But now really isnt the time for them to be bragging about console sales when every other aspect of the ps4 is in shambles.

Meh. It has no games to justify buying the thing, or in my case, keeping it around.

As for what happened here, it's nighttime in North America, where most of the site's traffic comes from.

It is a financial success for Sony, but it pains me that a system which has no significant exclusives or games in general till the year's end is the one that most people buy. Proves that an average folk doesn't even know much about what games are available.

By the time Halo MCC releases, Xbone will have had 6 exclusives (and yes, I'm counting FH2 as a exclusive since the game differs significantly)* in the span of last 2 months (and Halo MCC is bound to score AAA or at the very least AA), that were rated 7/10 and above on Gamespot. Compared to what on the PS4 front, exactly?

* If you prefer not to - then don't count Little Big Planet 3 as one too, as it's also on PS3.

Killzone, Resogun, Infamous, MLB 14, FF 14, TLOU: R. LBP 3 (?), Planetside 2 (?), Guilty Gear (?). And a racing game that doesn't work, lolzers.

It's about the same but honestly I think both exclusive libraries are balls other than MCC.

the PS3 sold 10million by July... and so far its only shipped 3.5 million more since.

So Im guessing the PS4 has sold about 12 million at the moment. Ps4 kinda slowed down. I was expecting it to be at 15-16 million right now since supposedly the Destiny bundles were mega sellers.

Im already expecting the PS4 to lose this holiday season, cuz of the new X1 lowered price and M$ super aggressive advertisement. And of course, no real exclusives for the holiday season either.

Im calling it now... PS4 and X1 will be even out by January at around 15-17 million

Depending on the PS4's legs, it certainly seems to have the potential to be the biggest console since the PS2. The Wii could've been, but it petered out way too quickly; Sony home consoles tend to have a bit more longevity, so we may be seeing the beginnings of the PS2's true successor.

Including having a mediocre first year lineup.

(Edit: there's a lot of numbers in this thread, so just to clarify: the PS3 only sold 5.63 million cumulative units by the end of September 2007 [link]. The Wii sold 13.17 million cumulative units by the end of September 2007 [link]. The Playstation 2 sold 10.61 million cumulative units by the end of March 2001 [link]).

I have no doubts we'll get great exclusives from Sony for PS4.. Seeing the system sell is good news but even though am quite a Sony fan, I do agree with people who say the system's games library (exclusives) is lacking at the moment..

All that revenue and sales and they still can't get psn right. Its amazing what people are willing to overlook. If this was live then people would be screaming from the rooftops.

Now if only it had a decent exclusive library to make it a worthwhile purchase

Very impressive....higher than what the Wii had at the same point in time. Granted the Wii was extremely supply constrained for over two years.

All those numbers mean is that there are clearly millions upon millions of people who enjoy looking at and not actually using their PS4's because lord knows there is not one good exclusive that would make me buy this thing. Multiplats are multiplats. I own a Xbox One and a Wii U. That's enough for me!

Everybody keeps saying exclusives are not on ps4, yet the thing keeps selling. Maybe exclusives aren't important outside of system wars?

what exclusives are there? Halo MCC is a remaster of games we've played the past 13 years. Super Smash Bros isn't really different in that regard, just updates to roster, some tweaks here and there, and HD graphics. if people are looking for that true next gen blockbuster exclusive, no one has it. and people should know better than to expect that so early in the gen. meanwhile, there are plenty of fantastic games already available - why should they be put on a lower pedestal just because they're not exclusive? PS4 is the best all around console. best hardware, best services, didn't try to betray gamers with DRM bullshit. what's not to like?

Good to know that gamers aren't all dumb and can recognize a much better console than the other two.

You missed my point. I'm saying Exclusives aren't that important. Having GTA, COD, FIFA is more important from a sales viewpoint. GTA5 sold 34,000,000, let's say 17m each in each console. It's double any Playstation exclusive and even Halo 3 only managed 10,000,000.

Good for them though. Now here's hoping their first party studios wake the **** up and start delivering good games. Naughty Dog is already stuck working on the garbage Uncharted series, ReadyAtDawn on the playable movie Order1886 and SantaMonica Studios no doubt is working on another fucking God of War game.

Shipped is sold when it comes to the PS4.

Absolutely amazing by Sony to achieve this with little to no worthwhile games. They smartly used memes to their advantage and definitely have a few employees on neogaf to help keep the hype train going. You still have people rabidly defend them even though the Wii U and XBox One are the better consoles (of this moment) so hats off to Sony.

The thing that bothers me most at this point about Sony's success is that it feels like the success is making them lazy and they're just coasting. They have to get their shit together. I'm probably going to get one relatively soon (no later than the release of Arkham Knight), but I'm really bothered by the stuff I'm hearing about them lately.

They're gaping lack of games in comparison to both Xbox One and Wii U coupled with their shotty online service is very worrisome.
