Playstation consoles have always been super ugly and cheaply built.
I would not talk about cheap build things when one of the consoles of the competition had a 50% fail rate biggest of any console in the history of the market which had as effect a 1+ billion assign for repairs...
All consoles are cheaply built. Hell most electronic devices are cheaply built. Its a race to the bottom, they seem to be trying to push the boundry on how cheap they can get things. Look at a radio from the 50's, look at the quality of the work that went into it then compare it to a radio that was made today...
Still got a ways to go before it's actually profitable for the game division. Their reported $200 million "operating profits" of the game division will likely lead to a loss once the $2.8 billion in operational revenues is taxed. They'd have to be subject to a 7% tax rate to break even, though it's 35% in Japan. That means after taxes the "operating profit" will result in around a $800 million LOSS for its division. I'm assuming there's some write-offs there, but not enough to keep it in the black. Granted Sony is throwing a party of the century that everyone is enjoying, they're just paying for it on credit cards they have to intention on paying off.
well done sony!
suck it lems, the king is back!
Back??? LOL
Sony has been the top selling console maker with the PS3 worldwide each month/year since the Wii fad died off about three years or so after last gen started.
Woah wait, the cows had something against 'shipped' numbers before when it came to Xbox.
I thought it was bad to report numbers shipped.. at least it seemed to be bad when Microsoft did it :D
Love it!
It is bad to lie about shipped to retailers as being actual sold to customer numbers like Microsoft continues to try to get away with.
When Sony reports sales numbers they are actual sales to customer numbers.
When Sony reports shipment numbers they call them shipment numbers.
Both Sony and Nintendo only report sales numbers as actual sales to customers and have done so since 2006:

"* Beginning with Q1 FY07, the method of reporting hardware and software unit sales has been changed from production shipments to recorded sales."
@Nengo_Flow: Sony is just holding off. Microsoft is playing their cards too early. The holiday shopping season hasn't started yet and Microsoft is already pulling the trigger.
I guarantee we see a Sony price drop mid November or in the Black Friday flyers when they ship out. Sony is just holding out and making it a big deal.

Sony is selling just about one million PS4s a month worldwide right now.
You are off in lalaland if you think Sony is even considering a price cut on the PS4. Holiday bundles - sure. Price cut - not happening.
The PS4 is already over double the Xbox One installed base worldwide and may get close to be 3-1 by the end of 2014. To try to pretend there is some sort of fierce battle going on between Sony and Microsoft is delusional.
@prawephet: I'm a manager at Sams Club. Holiday shopping season is in full swing...
I'm a manager at Costco and I second that its fucking bananas already! ;)
