@Shottayouth13-: Unfortunately, nope. The only way you can expand storage is with a screwdriver and a 2.5 HDD.

This should be common knowledge by now. Computers, systems, phones, never come with as much space as advertised.
Yeah. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
He says in the comments that the 408GB is AFTER he installed the games, not before.
No, it came with three preinstalled 'games,' like The Playroom

Still, the 408GBs is with the games installed.
Is this a real thread for 2013?
Someone that owned a HDD on Xbox, PS2, PC, 360, PS3, or paid attention to the Wii U sizes over the last decade may be aware of how HDDs work by now.
In fact, if you had a ZUNE, ipod, or even ipad...you may have noticed this "space is missing ohnoez dilemma", lol.
+1 for lulz.
Does it allow external hard drives for extra storage?
No, you have to buy a whole new HDD. This is why I want to get a 1TB 7200rpm Sata Drive for mine.
Can you give a link for a 1TB 7200rpm drive ? The largest I can find is 750GB.

@Mario1331:
Seriously? It's about 25GB on PC, and a bit more on Xbox One, for some reason.
I'll give you a hint to that answer - no, he's pulling it outta his behind.
my mistake its 50. just got the game in today. wth bf4 it would be 100 gigs of space to play them on the ps4

Games that were already on the PS4 when he bought it. Not games that he himself installed. Understand?
The stock drive is 500GB.

323GB free + 84GB games + 100MB other = 408GB.
Applications is only the three games. Nothing else installed/deletable.

As others have pointed out, 500GB is a marketing number. The OS sees GB (and MB, KB) in chunks of 1024 compared to a straight 1000 multiplier. e.g. 1GB = 1024MB, not 1000MB as marketing reports.
Thus, 500GB /(1.024^3) = 465 "real" GB.
1.024 is the ratio factor which is cubed because it's used three times: Bytes in KB (1024 vs 1000), KB in MB (1024 vs 1000), and MB in GB (1024 vs 1000).
That means 465 - 408GB leaves 57GB reserved on the drive. Not all of that may necessarily be occupied. There is likely a swap partition, the OS, reserved space for game clip sharing, etc.
Not that it's a big deal at all (408GB is more than enough to begin with, plus you can always expand storage), but I remember how cows made a big deal about how the space available with the Wii U was not as much as advertised. I wonder if we'll see them call Sony out on the same issue now, or if we'll see their legendary hypocrisy in full force again.
I have always planned to upgrade my PS4s with the 2 TB Western Digital or Seagate any way.
They probably reserve 50 gigs in a hidden partition for "factory reset"
The rest of the discrepency is down to technical details of how a gigabyte is calculated.

I hear if you throw a SSD in there you get improved loading times. :)
@charizard1605: You make me laugh, dude. you know there isn't going to be any "calling out" of Sony.

They never said it would come with 500gb of free space, they said it would come with a 500gb hard drive, which it does. I don't understand the point of this thread, unless you just want to get off on trying to dramatically skew something so you can try and make sony look bad.
