Hermit here, not afraid to admit it: I might get a PS4 for these, I'm a sucker for JRPGs and since the PC doesn't get a lot of those very often, I'll give in

Dragon Quest Heroes is not a JRPG, it's hack and slash

Tales of Zestiria is a multiplat coming to PC in almost the same day as on PS

Persona 5 is not confirmed as an PS exlusive.

FFVII, FF XV and Kingdom Hearts III are multiplats

More and more jrpgs are getting ported to the PC which is awesome, but yeah for the most part PS4 is best system for jrpgs

The average jrpg is by far better than the average fps game hell sometimes better than "good" fps games. Looking at you BioShock infinite

It's funny, cause so many of the games (and consoles!) you hype are not American, and in fact, Japanese.

@charizard1605: Japanese games that limit their identity just to infantile graphics style are an abomination of that country's culture. Japan has such a rich cinematographic tradition and such a diverse alternative music scene.

I think you are too smart to be making this argument, so I have to assume you are being willfully ignorant here. But you know what, I'll bite:

• Basing criticism of an entire country's output of games, and dismissing all of them, on their graphical style is shallow, superficial, and laughable.
• Graphics are not even the most important part of video games.
• If all Japanese games limited themselves to one style of graphics, I might even have found some room to maybe see where you were coming from, and meet you, not halfway, but like, a fifth of the way on this. But when we have a country that gives us games like Persona (highly stylized), Vanquish (science fiction aesthetic), Shenmue (grounded and gritty), Final Fantasy (surreal fantasy), Bayonetta (over the top aesthetic), Okami (impressionistic), Resident Evil (realistic and grounded), and all of Nintendo's aesthetic, which itself is stupidly varied- I don't know what to say to you.
• You bring up music, and then you proceed to ignore the fact that the best music in the industry all comes from Japanese games and producers. Mario, Final Fantasy, Zelda, Pokemon, Sonic the Hedgehog, Shenmue, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mega Man, you name it, it's probably Japanese.

Your criticism is as bad as the people who paint all western games as being gritty, grey, and all about shooting. It's shockingly poor.

@charizard1605: This thread is about JRPGs, isn't it? And as such I was exclusively talking about JRPG, a highly homogenized genre. All my criticisms were directed towards it and only it alone.

Your comment said 'Japanese games' so I took it as a broad stroke criticism of those as a whole. If I misunderstood, my apologies.

My response largely still stands- here we have a genre that has given us Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Shin Megami Tensei, Dragon Quest, Persona, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, and Dark Souls (and incidentally, each of them have been thematically and mechanically rich; each of them has had a different visual style; each of them is known for its incredible music), and you are dismissing all of it on a logically fallacious argument.

Like me saying all shooters are five hour long on rails fests.

What else can you expect from someone with a Master Chief shrine in their bedroom (pics shown on this very forum)... Nothing against that game, but I really can't stand people who spout racist bullshit... and who dismiss who genres because their console of choice doesn't have em. Funny how last gen some of these same people were proclaiming all sorts of praises for the two jrpg exclusives on xbox (lost odyssey and the bad one blue dragon)... even some liked tales due to vesperia but now they don't count...

Goal post shifting nonsense. All games count, no matter what some of you or I may think of them... even halo, even jrpgs, even if it sucks... it goes on the list....

Weird that Shenmue is without a doubt one of my favorite game franchises in existence but it's not some twacked out anime sideshow... Since when was Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Suikoden, Persona, etc... from anime? They were born from western ideas... products in the 80s Wizardry (which ironically still exists in japan but not in the states as it died in the 90s here) , and Ultima... Japanese gamers and programers loved these games and copied their ideas but added more fleshed out stories. Hence Dragon Quest was born....then final fantasy.

Those two offered something different than what was in the PC space for rpgs..... and fans of rpgs of the time usually loved both styles. I know I do myself. Now if you are referring to the recent phenomenon of "MOE" with scantly clad underage girls, well.. I will agree on that. I don't buy, support or like those style games. but mainstay jrpgs that were started in the in the mid ot late 80s or 90s don't have them and weren't from anime. Only more recent ones were. I wish more rpgs or 90s style were back and it's why I am so excited for FF7 remake, Star Ocean 5, and Disgaea 5 Persona 5, and even tales of zestria (even though the tales and persona does have a cartoon look its still not moe, and Disgaea has strategy in a quirky humor and love those games and strategy).

I think the problem is you can't lump all jrpgs together, they are different and ones created by different people at different times reflect that.

Yup, still exclusive due its different console but its controlled by Sony like World of Final Fantasy/ if you counted tales of Zesteria it would Sony Exclusive too due PC is not a Console[is PC have brand name or something its just personalized customized machine system without a name even you can tell its have nvidia or amd its still a pc][but hermits and lems trying to tell themselves its not exclusive]

The only one worth a damn for me is Persona 5.

Persona 5 is developed by Atlus. Atlus belongs to Sega. And Sega always brings its games to PC.

When was the last Persona on PC?
