The PS4 is roughly on par with, but probably better than, an HD7850. Counting all PCs accessing Steam (a good representative sample) with an HD7870/GTX 660 or higher you can see these make up only about 15% of all PCs.

I have three desktop PCs and a gaming laptop that access Steam. None of them are in the survey. I've had Steam since HL2.

I am the 15%.

The PC I built 3 years ago had a 6950, which is basically the same as a 7850

Steam is not a "good" representation for a start, we've been through this time and time again. Using the Steam survey is flawed as it allows you to populate the list from multiple machines. So, in short I can do the survey here on my 780Ti gaming rig, on my AMD powered MBP, on my low end 27in iMac, on my friends POS laptop and on a internet cafe machine, all under my Steam account ID.

Now, I don't doubt for a minute that the PS4 is more powerful but is that going to make people ditch their PC's and come running to Sony? No. Its all about the games, if they see a kick ass game, they will sit and up take notice. Even those wastes of genetic material that play the likes of LoL or Dota will sit up and look if something big enough shouts in their face.

In short, its like a car. I can upgrade my car to the max but its still going to doing everything a ricer's car is going to do, only thing is, mine is going to do it faster and better.

I have nothing to do right now, so i'll just do a quick sum up:

GTX 660 (2,67) + gtx 760 (2,10) + gtx 770 (1,78) + GTX 670 (1,25) = 7,8%. That doesn't include the many others gpu's i'm missing.

7.8% of, atleast 75 milliom steam users, is 5,8 million+.And you keep forgetting the whole point of consoles is to be simple and user friendly. Obviously they'll sell more. Genious i know. A machine that is cheaper and you don't have to do research and build yourself sell more to a mass, casual market.

What's the need of grouping "Gaming PCs" as a single entity just like PS4s or XOs when they're not? There's no such thing as just a "Gaming PC".

A gaming PC today with less power than the PS4 can surpass it tomorrow, the PS4 will stay at 1.84TFLOPS and won't get any better.

Nice I have that card crossfired, it still kicks ass to this day, noise is annoying though.

Outdated info . Steam survey is not most reliable source . Most people don't take part in surveys while others do when they make brand new account , and even if they upgrade their PC later , Steam doesn't offer them another survey until they do it themselves and most people don't .

well i'm not only on that 15% but on the 1% that really destroys any console out there, get on my level peasant.

Difference is that I can upgrade my PC for less than the price of a PS4 to get something more powerful. Consoles might have an okay price for their tech for about the first year, but every following year thereafter really highlights the difference between PCs and consoles.

And probably none of them post here, but that wont change hermits' attitude who do.

Even though Steam is a bad source for this kind of information (useless in fact) and even if it where true that only 15% of pc gamers had a PC more powerfull than a PS4, then that 15% of PC gamers is still magnitudes more than the PS4 and XBOX One userbase combined.

Obviously not scientific in anyway but for some reason consolites enjoy picking fights with pc gamers at the beginning of a gen, but disappear by the end.

*disclaimer* I own a gaming laptop and use it mostly for older gen stuff and indies... I just don't see the point in fighting a losing battle when we all know how it'll turn out in a few years.

As an owner of all three systems I can say that I use my PC 90% of the time.

Nothing beats it as a multimedia and gaming system.

Also, no listing for AMD 200 series, no dual GPUs (7990, 690), no enthusiast as well (Titan line, 295x2), no latest AMD/NVIDIA mobile chips, so the % is probably bigger.

I agree. Also, to the naysayers: the PS4 has plenty of games. Just because you bought a ps4 when you're not interested in its current games doesn't mean it has no games. You're just foolish for buying it in the first place.

Beyond the survey, Nearly 87% globally of people that ever play games on a PC do not have very powerful hardware. Which would make sense since laptops outsell desktop PC's. As of a few short years ago globally it was well under 1% of consumers that purchased mid-high end level hardware components which may indicate that the number of PC builders of gaming capable hardware that would equal or outdo a PS4 was pretty darn low and likely has not gone up that much if at all since then. PC digital and retail game sales figures are only an indication of how well the market does, not how well those games run for everyone that buys them. Given that publishers like EA that posted game sales figure comparisons for BF3 indicate that just as many players ever online is equal and sometimes out does console in pure numbers which was around 2.2 million a few years back which is very good but most of them were likely playing at very low settings.

So the PC gaming market is doing great, sometimes better than consoles but all the indicators are quite clear that only maybe a small percentage of people per year in the English markets alone are capable of running games maxed out or close to that. Even maxed out, many PC games graphically in comparison to console is not immediately clear to most without snapshots and side by side comparison complete with red lines and circles to point them out....If you have to point it out in a screenshot, then it really doesn't matter much does it?

What is important is that each of you as an individual enjoys any particular game you buy whether it be 30fps on console or 300 fps on a PC since there are other factors involved besides game performance which makes up your preference or choice even if it is a concession. For me it's more about control input, for some games I'd rather use a kinect if its an option and others I may prefer a gamepad so I'll go with a console version over PC if the PC version only offers partial gamepad support or kb/mouse only ...it's whatever system has a control scheme I would prefer for that type of game which to me is far more enjoyable experience than graphics alone typically.

What is sad for me is that lately I've had more fun playing Kirby: Triple deluxe than I have both Steam and Console games this past month.

Just curious. What are the numbers of console gamers who don't have an 8th gen console?

this is too complicated for trolls ! Like i need to upgrade my 6970 OC anytime soon !! I will though in a year or 2 when 4k gaming will be a trend. For now... why the hell to upgrade ?!! So a PS4 is better ? Because i run on extreme ( if i need to ) CPU settings OC or because i have 16GB system ram along with 2GB dedicated RAM for GPU ?

I figure if all PS4, XB1, and WiiU owners were combined, they'd still fall short of that 15% of PC gamers who have significantly more powerful rigs than a PS4. That's not even taking into account those PC gamers who have at least parity with the XB1 or WiiU.

That means the rest of them are still plodding along with their PS3 (including myself) and/or 360.

He is a troll let him be :P MY gpu is 4 years old and stand great for almost all current games. TC tries to troll by mentoning PS4s GPU ... Like in gaming RAM/CPU/Disk speeds doesnt matter in order to achieve great graphical results in gaming. If I go OC mode with my current rig ...probably ill beat the shit out of PS4 on same games but on paper ( by TCs logic ) PS4 >> my PC therefore ... PS4 is better...
