I love dynamatecop's meltdown at the Switch lmao
Yes, correcting peoples mistakes, misinformation, lies and highlighting the glaring size issues in relation to this being a competently transportable and convenient device seems to be going completely to the wayside of logic.
It's not ideal for handheld applications unless like another user said here and I even said myself, you're going on some kind of long trip and you keep it in a bag or satchel of some kind. This is no PSP or 3DS that you can shove in your pocket and go to the park, this isn't some small form factor mobile device that works well with your everyday life out and about.
It's too big, it's cumbersome and its very premise is established on gimmicks and life situations with gaming that simply do not happen nor would you want to bring something like this into.
I don't care for it, they essentially mobilized the Wii U, that's what this is, that's all this is. Instead of a distance tethered gamepad with the console remaining stationary, they've packed the console into the gamepad.
@dynamitecop: Bro, i just gave you the dimensions, your picture is WAY off. There all the same size.
The screen of the Switch is 6.3", THE SCREEN ITSELF, THE DISPLAY... NOT INCLUDING THE BEZEL... The screen of the 3DS XL is 4.88"....
You could be right as the space around the screen might be bigger then i expected. But i still dont see any issue. As i stated, the n3DS XL has never been able to fit in my pockets. And it sure as hell dont fit in kids pockets. But i didnt calculate 6.3in for the width of the screen, that was my guess for the sides.
The Wii U is 6in screen and 5.2 width. I simply calculated a 6.2in screen and gave it width of 5.5in. I then added space to the sides and got 6.3in total width of Switch without Joy-Cons.
Well see whos right when dimensions are released.
I have a PC setup, so the PS4/Xbone are worthless. Whatever handful of a interesting exclusives they might receive will get ported over to other systems anyway.
The Switch is definitely something I want, because that's going to get mad support down the line; Just thinking about the next Monster Hunter, Pokémon, Fire Emblem, etc. - but this time, with actually good imagine quality and the option to play on the big screen - sold me on Nintendo's system.
Already have PS4, not really in a hurry to get Pro. I might get a Scorpio if it is more powerful and is still priced competitively. I mean that makes sense, buy the hardware with the best price/performance. So it really depends on where the Scorpio is priced compared to the PS4 Pro.
Switch is off to the side, like I might get if it it's cheap just to have some Nintendo games (which is how I justified the 3DS - it was cheap, so "why not" - hell I ended up having 3 different 3DS's just to upgrade to different bundles). It looks like another Nintendo console that can't be a "primary" machine. It's a shame they forced it into a tablet form factor, that just seems silly IMO.

Whats up with that tape measure lol
Whats up with that tape measure lol
I found it in the crawlspace of a house I was working on a few years ago, it's seen better days I'm sure lol.
Most excited for the Switch. Both Nintendo portable and home games on one system. Ability to pick it up and move to another part of the house if the living room is occupied. I dig it.
I personally don't have an issue with the Switch size. When I'm using a portable I am traveling. When I travel I have a suitcase and/or laptop satchel with me.
I'm not 13 anymore playing games in the back of a car on a family trip. If I'm mobile I'm driving or it's a short trip to the airport. I don't need to game while I'm walking my dog around the park or neighborhood for an hour.
The Switch is perfect for me for business trips. Gives me something to do on a hotel stay.
If I'm not traveling I'm playing at home, maybe while on a break at work but then I could just leave it in my car. The Switch fits both those scenarios and lets me take full fledged Nintendo games with me. No more wasting time with some crap mobile game to kill time.
If you are gaming while riding a bus or carpool to work, then yeah, it's size is pretty big. I just can't think of an example where I would need a gaming device to take with me when I wouldn't have somewhere to pack it other than a pocket.
That's just me though.
@xantufrog: Did you look at the article? I would normally agree with you, but the article says they are making sure only half the GPU works and it is down clocked for current or previous normal PS4 games.
Now for future games I'm sure the Pro version will smooth out the frame rate, but the explanation given makes it sound like they intentionally cripple the Pro so it matches the normal PS4 for older games and that they will not get assistance from the stronger GPU.
@xantufrog: No problem. I was assuming the same as you before actually reading the article. It kind of makes sense that Sony is doing that to ensure backwards compatibility, but I cant believe they wouldn't try to figure out how to make games that weren't reaching their FPS max before, reach it now.
The Xbox S works for games with unlocked frame rates or dynamic resolution games, why couldn't Sony do that and make games like Bloodborne and The Witcher 3 stable at 30 fps??

That's horribly stupid, Microsoft is going the other direction with Scorpio and letting it better existing game performance...
I was looking forward to playing Until Dawn again with a playable framerate, talk about disappointment after disappointment.
@dynamitecop: I can't understand what Sony is thinking with that. It's almost like they want so badly for the base PS4 to not be "the gimped version" that they are bending over backwards to minimize benefits for the Pro
It's likely the same reason Ubisoft and developers like CD Projekt RED downgrade their games, they're pandering to the lowest common denominator that being consoles.
The Pro - (IMHO) is a waste.. It's upscaling to 4k (from what I've read) and most of the devs seem reluctant to jump aboard. Besides, I already own a PS4 and the games are amazing enough as it is.. (Uncharted 4, MGS5, DC yes I said it!), so I see no need to spend another $400 for a marginal increase in fidelity.
The Scorpio - Sounds amazing on paper.. but knowing M$ this thing will start at $500. Not exactly a "sweet spot" for an entry level price point. That and I'm trying to see what software they will use to draw us in.. Most of the Heavy Hitters are well beyond franchise fatigue.. (Halo, Forza, Gears). And most of the other games are already (or will be) available for the PC.
The Switch - is a given! This is the first Nintendo console I've been excited about in about a decade.
Scorpio > Switch > PS4 pro
The irony in that for me is while I generally own all consoles I'm usually more of a PlayStation fan because of the exclusives. I just think Sony is going cheap with the pro.

Same. I think this'll be the first Day 1 purchase for me from Nintendo since the GCN, even though I'd promised myself I wouldn't ever do so again until I see them change. This system is pretty damn cool.
Should have made the answer multiple choice. Shame on TC.
Getting Neo in December and Switch on launch day.
I... have to be honest and admit I have no idea how to do that lol

You haven't been gone that long...
Getting a pro for sure. But I might get a Switch for for my kids. They love tablets and Nintendo games. I have to see if the price is worth it though.
Scorpio is the only right answer but looking at that poll, not surprised so many here got it wrong. I'm so embarrassed for you lol :P
PS4 Pro: it is decently powerful and has great first party game support.
There is no reason to buy an Xbox, you can play all the games a PC anyway.
The Switch is just another weak Nintendo gimmick. Even Nintendo's games are just their own whored out franchises. I long for the N64/Rare days :(

The PS4 games would require a patch in order to take advantage of the new PS4 Pro hardware. The games weren't coded like PC games, so changing the GPU specs and CPU clock speed could cause some issues. Sony isn't intentionally gimping games or anything like that. But it's up to developers to take advantage of the extra power.
I would say clearly the most interesting is the Switch. It's doing something different than both MS and Sony is doing as they always seem to do and they'll have the strongest 1st party games which most of the fanboys in this thread love to talk about. Me personally I'm most exciting I would say right now for the Scorpio cause of MS big talk of actual 4K native gaming so I want to see if they can really deliver on that. I'm getting the pro cause I don't want to play Horizon and other games at it's highest fidelity and resolution but if the specs for the switch is comparable to the X1 and/or the PS4 with a good 3rd party support, it would be great for gamers to have that big 3rd option in gaming.
I will say when this new "gen" of consoles are all out, sounds like MS will have the most powerful console behind PC of course, Nintendo will have the most innovative and the Pro will just be standard console. Thank god Sony has the huge lead it does going into the new release in consoles cause if MS releases the Scropio for $400, they could have been in big trouble.
Well the Switch wins by default since it is a new console and the Pro and Scorpio are just new versions of existing consoles.
I was hoping the Switch was going to be my next multiplat machine, but Nintendo decided to cheap out again on the hardware so I was forced to upgrade to the Pro. Also, The concept of the Switch does nothing for me as I don't value portable gaming, but if its priced below $299.99 I might get one for the few Nintendo games that interest me.
As far as the Scorpio is concerned its totally irrelevant to me. Not gonna pay a possible $100 premium over the PS4 Pro for a 40 - 50% improvement in performance.
@emgesp: Yet you upgraded to the Pro?
Yeah why? I sold my PS4 for $250, so I only had to pay $150 to upgrade. I would have done it for the Switch, but then when Emily Rodgers confirmed it was under powered compared to the XB1/PS4 I made the "Switch" to the Pro.

So why not sell your Pro and upgrade to the more powerful Scorpio?

Because then how would I play PS4 exclusives?
Sorry, my mistake. I wouldn't have sold my OG PS4 for the Switch, but I would have bought it for my main multiplat machine and use the PS4 for exclusives, but since the Switch is lackluster hardware once again I just went for the Pro.
@emgesp: Now you have to miss out on the worlds most powerful console for multiplats and Xbox exclusives.
