agreed.. but if a casual consumer is interested in a lower-cost $299 console, why not pick the more "future proof" option?.. Even if you don't have a 4K TV today, you may pick one up down the line and already owning a device that supports UHD Bluray, 4K upscaling, HDR, and HDMI 2.0 is an obvious advantage from a value standpoint..
Future proof.? Hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa....
Boy lemmings are the most hypocrite fanboys on the face of the earth the same buffons who downplayed 1080p for movies and blu-ray last gen when Blu-ray was $1000 on 2006 now use 4k movies and blu-ray as shield and sword...lol
Yes but if you want most games on 1080p you get a PS4 because well the xbox one S still under power vs the PS4.
Upscaling is not the same as native.
But what you people fail to see is how smart sony is,MS has a console that is being market as 4k,it scales games to 4k and play 4k movies,so what is the incentive to get a Scorpio next year for casuals.? Those who only see 4k and nothing more.?
I can see the reasoning behind sony move, want 1080p get PS4 want 4k movies and games get a PS4k..lol
But is funny to see you people holding tied to 4k movies this gen when last gen all you lemmings downplayed blu-ray and claimed it wasn't need it,as the XBOX 360 was for games not movies..hahahahaa

I see this as more evidence of the leaks being fake. It wouldn't make any sense to make a hardware revision without at least updating the HDM to use HDMI 2.0. They did this with the PS3 slim so that it could play 3D games and video, why not for 4K video playback? The PS4 is still more powerful than the Xbox One S, so it's not a question of power.
Simple marketing by not making the normal PS4 4k,any one who wishes 4k will get a Neo version,MS try to claim Scorpio was for 4k,but when people jumped on them they backtracked now they have 2 consoles that will be on sale next year with a 4k moniker, and one will be considerably cheaper.
Did you see the video of eurogamer.? They went to the house of the person who has the unit and they confirm is real.
And it doesn't look bad at all.

Microsoft doesn't have that issue.. the Xbox One S does upscaled 4K gaming while Project Scorpio will be marketed as being able to do native 4K gaming.. The Xbox One S doesn't do VR while Project Scorpio will likely support Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.. Those are bullet points that can be used to drive interest in their new console.. maybe Sony wanted to save a few bullet points for the Neo as well..
Yes they have in fact more than you think so,as MS try to advertise Scorpio as 4k only and quickly came under fire, and they change the tune and claim it would also be 1080p and that it was up to developers.
You have a console with an identity crisis, the XBOS is being market as 4k capable and so would be scorpio and by late 2017 the price gap between both will be surely $200 minimum and both are 4k capable.
That could hurt Scorpio sales badly.
Yes but VR on PC is ultra expensive $600 dollars man,Vive even worse $800 so most people will not byte on a $600 or $800 add on,even for PS4 which is the cheapest i don't see a bright future.
