With Nintendo releasing first party games every now and then, and not really having a decent third party support, and with Microsoft quitting games in favor of being an entertainment hub, is PS4 going to be the only true gaming system that gets constant first and third party games?

Who knows, depends on the price point and whether or not Microsoft is focusing on games and not turning a console into a tv

lol under. Think for 500$ it could do well if and only if specs are trully impressive and launch titles blow ppl away. I hope it launches for 500$ and really powerful.

I don't think the economy is in a good enough position for any console to live up to the hype every one seems to be putting out there.

I really do not understand why the Sony fans are acting like the PS4 is so special. The exclusive games announced is nothing special at all. I honestly do not understand it.

You were expecting them to announce all their games before E3 and show same trailers during E3 (like square and their bs FF trailer) or wut?

What does some imaginary games you hope to be announced have to do with what I said. Out of what is known about the PS4 I really do not understand the lovefest.

what are you implying Sony has no exclusive franchises or something? there's tones of games that can be announced this E3.

No, i doubt it will be another PS2. The PS2 was one of the earlier launched console of the 6th gen, with a sweet price point ($300), and the revolutionary DVD-built in player; as well as having a HUGE 3rd party support over competitors.

PS4 on the other hand, $300 price point is not gonna happen given the console power (& Sony performance last gen), we still don't know about the format (but very high chance Sony will go again with bluray this gen, MS will as well). 3rd party support will probably the same as 7th gen (Nintendo got kicked out, MS & Sony share the majority of multiplat). 1st party support, even though subjectively Sony 1st party is better than Nintendo, the majority of Sony 1st party game ain't system seller and generally perform weaker than Nintendo's Mario & Zelda. So yeah, it'll be pretty hard for them to dominate again.

And don't give me that crap casual doesn't sell; the fact that it sells like hot cakes means MS going full casual next gen is not really a bad move for them (but for us, clearly); not to mention MS is pretty good at advertising, unlike Sony.

I love how cows said all gen "the PS3 is a supercomputer with teh cell, it dominates everything!" Now they are saying "the PS4 is going to be nothing like the PS3, its going to dominate everything!" Sony seems to have lost site of what good games are. All their games focus on cinematic presentation and they really have no understanding of how online networks are supposed to be. I have a hard time believing all the people that switched to Xbox this gen are going to switch back to Playstation.

PS2 was sort of a golden era for Sony. Even with all the wii's success it couldn't beat out the ps2's lifetime sales. With today's low priced games (such the ones you can get for a $1-$5 on the iphone) I would be very surprised to see a repeat of the ps2's success. It would be great though, I'm certaintly not rooting against it.

xbox had outstanding 3rd party support. ps4 looks strong but who knows. if i remember correctly, the vita was praised and given promises by many devs. what changed? i know they are different platforms but promises aren't always a given. e3 will make things a lot more clear.

No. The PS2 was the cheapest DVD player when it launched and all tvs could utilize it. The PS3 tried to make this happen again with the BR player but it was not the step up that DVD was from VHS. The PS1 was not hurt by having CD playback. The PS4 has no gimmick this round.

No - regardless of how great it ma be the gaming world has changed since the PS2 era. Interesting though you suggest MS is creating an 'entertainment hub' yet one of the attractive selling points of the PS2 was it's capacity to play DVD's. I recal the day when the power of home consoles converged with that of the arcade and the demise of the latter ensued. We'll slowly see a simlar convergence with other handheld devices this upcoming gen - pads/phones/etc/stuff. That's not to say the PS4 won't be great, it just won't be as compelling as the PS2 was. In that regard, perhaps an 'entertainment hub' is a safer direction to head. We shall see...

Ah but variety DOES benefit me as a gamer. There is a reason I'm only looking forward to one game, the rest bore me to tears. If MS can foster some inventive titles utilizing the kinect then I'm all for it. Seeing as though the games people are hyping are all based on past successes and/or graphical prowess, non of which matters in 2014. I have enough disposable income to not have to put up with subpar games, I'm quite alright playing only 3 AWESOME games per year.

Where do you get the idea they are focusing more on casual? Factually the 360 has had more high scoring hardcore games than the PS3 in the last two years. Sony made a lot of stupid decisions last gen that didnt benefit me as a gamer. Microsoft was smart and I did benefit from it. They always made sure Xbox owners got multiplat content first. They made things like Wi-fi and other accessies optional so I didnt have to spend money on things I didnt need. They were smart with their online service and pricing. People need to stop making excuses for Sony because they released the PS1 and PS2. Those were different times.

The keyword is mostly. More variety, sure, but it doesn't mean other companies don't have variety. Every system has its fair share of casual titles, the problem is how much does a company focus on casual. One prime example is the Wii, primary focus on casual, the system sold very well and profited Nintendo greatly, but how many gamer actually own only a Wii for the whole gen? That's enough to show what a Wii mean to a gamer. Now if MS takes the same route, I can imagine the same thing happens to them. But I guess if you can buy a whole new system just to play 3 games per year, then you can still appreciate MS somehow.

I just dont understand why you would come to that assumption. Like I said the 360 has has more hardcore games released in the last two years than the PS3. Releasing Kinect doesnt make the console casual. The best consoles were accessible to ALL gamers. The PS2 had more shovelware than the 360 and PS3 combined.

Sony has been releasing plenty of Move games, but nobody says they are focused on casual because Microsoft fans arent that stupid.

Yes I paid for that timed exclusive content but Microsoft made that content available to 360 by paying for it. I dont want to wait for content for my favorite games that everyone else is already playing. Its a big plus in my book to have that stuff early.

If Microsft gets timed exclusive content for GTAV (which will probably be the case) my mind will already be made up which console to buy.

[QUOTE="rjdofu"][QUOTE="mtron32"][QUOTE="rjdofu"] Yes, MS are smart indeed, but focusing mostly on casual doesn't necessarily benefit you as a gamer. As a gamer, you play game, not finance.

You make a good point, there needs to be balance between the two approaches, too much emphasis on one kills it for the other.

[QUOTE="Miketheman83"][QUOTE="rjdofu"][QUOTE="Miketheman83"] Where do you get the idea they are focusing more on casual? Factually the 360 has had more high scoring hardcore games than the PS3 in the last two years. Sony made a lot of stupid decisions last gen that didnt benefit me as a gamer. Microsoft was smart and I did benefit from it. They always made sure Xbox owners got multiplat content first. They made things like Wi-fi and other accessies optional so I didnt have to spend money on things I didnt need. They were smart with their online service and pricing. People need to stop making excuses for Sony because they released the PS1 and PS2. Those were different times.

Didn't make any excuse for Sony, stop assuming everyone criticize MS = supporting Sony. MS is gonna focus on casual, I don't need to explain any further since it's definitely what's gonna happen. And yeah, all the multiplat content, you paid for them, remember?

I just dont understand why you would come to that assumption. Like I said the 360 has has more hardcore games released in the last two years than the PS3. Releasing Kinect doesnt make the console casual. The best consoles were accessible to ALL gamers. The PS2 had more shovelware than the 360 and PS3 combined. Sony has been releasing plenty of Move games, but nobody says they are focused on casual because Microsoft fans arent that stupid.

Because Sony didn't focus on Move like MS does with their Kinect :|.

I really do not understand why the Sony fans are acting like the PS4 is so special. The exclusive games announced is nothing special at all. I honestly do not understand it.CanYouDiglt
And when you're an ardent fan of a series that ends in merely different colored endings, do you ever ask yourself if all that noise about "DVD is enough for games" really rang true for you? Prolly not. All hail XBox!

Um they tried to and the Move just didnt do as well as Kinect. Im still trying to figure out how they "focused on Kinect" and still released more hardcore games than the PS3. Your logic fails.

You know Sony has Microsoft and their xbots mad worried lol. You can just tell by the epic amounts of damage controlling that has been going on since the PS4 was revealed! The PS4 is going to be huge! You can just feel the vibe in the air While Microsoft is doing everything wrong (little to no exclusives, extortion online fees, heavy kinect focus, weaker hardware etc) Sony is doing everything right Sony made sure that the PS4 was built by game makers for gamers, and that is an awesome thing:) You can tell Sony really cares about their products and cares even more about core gamers. (The PS4 almost seems like a love letter from Sony and their first parties to the fans) The PS4 is the gamers consoles! The PS4 will be the most powerful and wholey efficient console of next gen by significant margins. It will also be very easy to develope for, so that will be another great thing, and will unsure that the PS4 dominates third party support etc Not to forget, the PS4 has such a sexy controller, and that it will have ground breaking social features that are SPECIFIC TO GAMING (no gimicks) The PS4 is ging to simply be awesome! I really cant wait for it! Like I already said, you can just feel the vibe in the air, that the PS4 is going to be something special, and will likely be the PS2 of our time!

Also, Sony and their stellar fisrt parties have always provided the goods for core gamers, and by the looks of it, they will continue to do so in surplus for the PS4! But for some reason Sony would never really go after M$ So im really loving this new agressive Sony, who has love for the core gamer, but who is now going to go after M$! Its true that Sony aint playing around this time, and they fully intend to win the next gen! Sony has Microsoft sweating, panicking, and damage controlling out of desperation....and I love it! Ive always wanted somebody to give M$ a taste of their own medicine! Sony with the core gamers behind them are going to smite the delusional corporate fatcats at M$ once and for all. Here is hoping, right? But one thing is for sure, M$ doesn't get gaming! Sony does! M$ is run by a bunch of corporate tools in 3 piece suites whom are oblivious to reality and what the people want! Sony knows what we want and are delivering the goods- I.e PS4 was bulit by game makers for gamers, PS4 will have massive third party support from the beginning, and Sony and their stellar first parties will be bringing the heat with those awesome Playstation exclusives of familiar franchises but also of new exclusive IPs like Knack and many more to be announced Mean while 360 owners will just be getting Gears/Halo/Forza for the Kinect box 720 lmao Anyway, I encourage you guys to look at the current vice president of M$, and read some of his interviews. The luls will ensue. Phil Spencer is delusional, and the thing is, he is not even the worst guy at M$ Microsoft are truly pathetic! Microsoft will fail miserably trying to chase the Wii's pot of causual gold
