If true, wouldn't be surprised. That's what you get for sucking Sony's dick again and again and you didn't even make them to buy you dinner first.

We dont do this all the time. When we upgrade we don't buy all components anew.

1. PS4.5 exclusives could be a thing

2. Let's say they don't do that. That means resources will have to be spilt between 2 Playstation consoles. Either by both 1st and 3rd party devs or just one of them.

3. Let's not kid ourselves....the PS4.5 will be Sony's focus. And that's what scares me.

Why would they have to split up resources? The same software would run on both consoles without much problems. They will continue to optimize for the OG PS4 and let the PS4.5 basically brute force better performance.

@emgesp: We'll just have to see, but if Fallout Next comes out and only performs well on PS4.5, and is a slide show on og PS4, or Horizon: Zero Dawn 2 comes out in 2017 and runs in 720p on og system etc... you get my point.

Basically I'm saying we can't have any performance cutbacks from how things are right now on PS4. None. If the new games want to display at 4k or run at an outstanding 120fps on the newer systems that's fine. But absolutely do not take a single frame away from already laughable current standards.

If Fallout 5 runs poorly on the OG PS4 that is not Sony's fault as they are not the one's developing the game. Sony is simply giving developers more power if they choose to utilize it, but that doesn't mean they need to stop optimizing for the OG PS4. Blame Bathesda if their future games run like crap on your PS4.

will upgrade if i see a jump from 30 to 60fps or Medium/High settings to Ultra. Otherwise its not worth it. I don't care if it can play 4k movies, i don't have a 4k screen nor am i planning of getting one.

except tablets go for $49-$180 unless you want to get the HD 10 which is $220, even then there's no need to upgrade a tablet every 1 or 2 years unless you're one of those people who think it's awesome to always buy the newest and coolest thing even if it's barely an upgrade from your previous device.

I even own a 1st gen kindle fire which I bought back in 2013 and I have no desire to buy a newer version and if I did I'd only be spending $60 tops for a HD 7.

Like I said before not everyone will have to upgrade right away, some can simply skip a iteration and then upgrade if they so choose. You'll get at least 6 yrs of support regardless of what iteration of PS4 you have, so at the end of the day its really no different than past generations.

IMO this gen was shit from the beginning.

This, current gen owners getting burnt this Christmas. Bet they can't wait to buy a new iteration of their console every other Christmas, sure that won't get old. lol the audacity this gen.

Definitely NX for me.

Also, are 15m - 20m people going to offload their previous consoles for a hundred dollars every other year? Or are people going to just build up a tower of decks of consoles that are about as useful as a paper weight? Seems like a waste of technology.

@jhonMalcovich: Yes PC gamers upgrade all the time. And trying to pick apart a WHOLE console upgrade of $400 to PC parts which individually could cost that OR MORE......whatever.

I'm a PC gamer.

My GTX 680 is out of date. That card was at the top of the charts not 3 years ago. By today's requirements you need at least a 970 which runs you about $300. And that's ONLY the GPU.

Don't bullshit me.

@emgesp: i don't know the specs of the new PS4, but I'm sure that it's going to have different hardware.

That means they will have to focus on that system individually.

It might not be the same as programming for 2 totally different systems, but it's not like it's just going to be developing for 2 identical PS4s.

I'm interested in seeing how sony persuades people to upgrade to the ps4.5+ when it releases. I'm not interested in one because if this rumor is true it will cost and maybe around 480 CAD and maybe even over that. I do expect a price drop for the original ps4 whenever that version of the ps4 releases.

It would be like every 3 - 4 yrs, not every other year. And to answer your question, yes I think at least 10 - 15 million would consider upgrading as there are easily that many enthusiasts that play on consoles. A trade in program will help soften the blow as well. I mean if you're going to upgrade you might as well sell your previous console anyways given your current library of PS4 games will be future compatible.

Yes MS is just as bad. For them they at least get to catch up to Sony, but MS don't even bring anything to the table. I think all the Xbox One early adopters may feel inclined to go else where.

For a single display anything 950 and up will get you high settings and last you for a while. I've had a 750Ti for two years almost and when that was new, it almost maxed out everything.

Your point could lead to the concern that this constant console upgrading could keep multiplat requirements high and require a higher frequency of graphics card upgrades. Although I can't imagine there'll be a significant upgrade in the consoles GPU in such a short period of time, I don't see how for $400 in two or three years.

I think AMD could be useful for PC gamers, they're quite cost effective when it comes to PC gaming. I mean, you can get their best CPU for £150 and their graphics cards are cheaper. Also I don't think they require as many different socket changes as Intel CPUs so your motherboard could last longer.

I'm starting to wonder if Intel CPUs will be the cost effective choice for gamers for too much longer. It's annoying that games have required good i5s and i7s just because console cpus are have a higher thread orientation.

Jesus, if NX turns out to be more powerful than the PS4 I don't know what to get at this point. PS4K better have a really good exchange program when it launches so I can get rid of my old model easily.

The PS4.5 will feature hardware that follows the same basic architecture and API as the current PS4, so devs will not have to change their workflow. No different than going from the IPAD Air to IPAD Air 2.

@HalcyonScarlet: AMD has been cost effective for CPU's up to date if you dont count OC'ing which is heavily in Intels favor(you see sandy brige i7's going up t o 5ghz f.e) and the more cores supported the better it is for amd(your console cpu orientantion) because their single thread performance is bonkers vs Intel, so is IPC. Performance per wat is also better on Intel. So performance per dollar is literally the only thing they have kept up with

I agree Intel CPUs are better and I like them, but for a PC in which gaming is the focus, I think things may swing in favour of AMD simply because of low cost.

I really like Intel CPUs. It frustrates me that some games are starting to require better than my Ivy Bridge i5 when it's a really good CPU. And I don't fancy upgrading to a new expensive Intel CPU just for gaming. The i5 is awesome at most things and I've never felt like I was running out of CPU resources with it.

Then again Intel can afford to drop prices if AMD actually starts gaining more ground, they had no reason to do so up to today. The older i5's are falling behind faster than i7's as the new games are starting to utilize the HT in i7's which was not the case before when i7's and i5's were basically identical in gaming performance given same core clock. But yes AMD may come back banging with their new cpu's at least forcing Intel to compete.

lol this thread is funny seeing desperate lems and hermits at it once again, apparently the lot of you clowns only see what you want to see and are collectively desperate with the "outrage" against Sony haha, why?

Comments for dumb lem/herms in this thread: "Sony burn early adopters", "Sony is done", "the fans are going to be pissed", "PS4 is dead", "fragment the fanbase"

LMFAO how hard they try. I'll make this nice and big so as to make sure none of the people you guys are trying to fool with your fake concern misses it.

Straight for the desperate lems article that you guys are talking about now:

"..Games developed specifically for the Playstation 4.5 will still work on the original PS4.."

How do I feel about it? Sounds cool to me haha sorry lems.

I said they'd still support PS4 with this new PS4k, I mean it IS branded "PS4" stupid drons. So this whole thread is a flop with you guys acting as if this hurts current PS4 owners somehow.

This is no different than when a new GPU for PC comes out on PC, it affect current owners of lower powered GPUs not at all they can still play all the game games just at the settings of the more powerful card.

Again the hypocrisy of hermits rears it's head as try to bash an option they claim to love. Carry on with the failed arguments morons. You tired lem/herms but this is not happening the way you have it drummed up in your heads, it never does.

Yeah, I'm really wondering what a update like this would mean:

Is it just for increased performance in VR ? if so than I don't see the big deal and I'd rather get an older model.

Are games going to be affected by this ? In the way that games running on the older hardware will have lower FPS and graphics settings ?

It's just a really weird and confusing situation. I don't believe it to be a reality just yet.

I think you're only seeing what you want to. MS are just as bad, but as I've been reminded, these threads are about Sony as they're the ones with the recent announcements or rumours.

I think most complaining think it's a bad idea no matter who does it.

Might sound 'cool' to you, but many others aren't thrilled. Many like to have one console per gen (from a company) and know it's the exact same experience and best on offer. Even Sony had this opinion last gen when they said "We think everyone should have the Elite experience" with regards to the Xbox 360 Elite.

You're trying just as hard to force your opinion on how you think things should be, on others. Considering how much people paid for their console, they have the right to call out MS or Sony when they do things like this. And yeah, MS are just as much of an asshole for this, after all their shit this gen, this has to be the final burn.

I think this is like a Trojan Horse for 4K, like how the PS3 was used to bring Blu Ray to many people. I don't see the point. It's all very premature. It's like the difference between CD and SACD for a lot of people at home. Your not going to convince many easily that 1080p is redundant.

I have to ask the question in general, is 4K like curved screens in that it's only really beneficial on large sized screens?

You have NO argument.

I see you desperately scrapping but the "Many like to have one console per gen" comment you're trying to use is irrelevant here as I already posted all PS4k games will be playable on PS4. Forget already huh? lol

lol you're still circling back to the original argument that you lems tried to push throughout this thread and it FAILS. Next.

and this, "We think everyone should have the Elite experience" So Sony said that? LMAO, you just made that up. Why are you guys so desperate that you have to resort to making up lies to make arguments? Show me the link!

I'm not trying hard to force anything lem, I simply posted the relevant information that desperate MS shills like you glossed over to try to promote your stupid ideas that this is somehow hurting current PS4 owners, to show that IT DOESN'T.

"..Games developed specifically for the Playstation 4.5 will still work on the original PS4.."

DEALWITHIT!

Sorry you and your replay only show YOU trying to force and argument where it doesn't apply.

No one is forced to buy a new system so what's your argument again? Being able to play all games but having the option of being able to upgrade? So you hate PC gaming? EVERY argument you guys have here fails.

I love the flip flops, damage control, 180s and contradicting logic that is DESPERATELY being force by the lot of you guys. It's funny because it's so easy for me to expose.

Yeah, there is absolutely no way I'm going to fork over that much money for what is going to be a mere hardware upgrade. I feel this will set a terrible precedent. Consoles should not aspire to become dumbed down PCs. They have been for a while now, but it's quite clear Sony and MS aren't even going to bother hiding the notion anymore.

Maybe my mind will change when both companies provide full disclosures, but right now it's all just very off-putting.

You're aggressive nature with this just shows desperation with all that nonsense, calling everyone disagreeing with you lems and herms. It's BS, cut it out. Stop taking everything about your precious PS4 so personally.

Why would I be a lem? I've been just as vocal about my disappointment with MSs plans to do this. But even a PS fan on here told me 'but this thread is about PS4' when I brought that up in a another thread on the same topic.

I'm done with Xbox now too. I game on the PC. The only upcoming game I want from it, FM 7 will come to the PC, so I'm good. I'm fine with upgrading on the PC, it's part of it's nature and I like it. But it's not what I want or expect from my consoles, it just makes current gen consoles even more redundant to me. Why keep buying console when you can just upgrade your PC. It's also a 180 in itself seeing this is not what MS and Sony have led gamers to believe. It's lying by omission seeing as they'd obviously been planning this for some time.

It's about personal opinions and personal perspectives. Many want to know they have the best on offer. I've always been like that regarding consoles.

Nope, when MS announced the Xbox 360 Elite, a reporter asked and 'Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America, said:'

"We think every PlayStation 3 owner should have an 'elite' experience"

http://www.videogamer.com/news/sony_says_ps3_has_always_provided_an_elite_experience.html

Perhaps now they don't want every PS4 owner to have 'an elite experience'.

@HalcyonScarlet:

Great job on the link, I stand corrected. I applaud and salute you :)

That said, PS4 is STILL an elite experience over all current gen consoles, PS4k will provide an experience similar to more powerful PC hardware so both are for an elite experience depending on your level of preference :P

I appreciate that and respect your opinion on this. :-)

I think it's going to come down to gamers being of split opinion on this. Some are for it, some aren't, and I wonder if some might be confused by it.

In that respect, I'm interested to see how they'll market this to the general public who don't look too hard into things and are more easily confused (Wii and Wii U for example). Guess we'll see how it turns out.

in deed we will.

Honestly, the idea of being able to play current and future console games at close to the performance of what PC gamers are seeing is exciting.

It doesn't take away from PS4 but instead of being stuck at a mix of low, medium and high settings at 30fps with a resolution of 900 to 1080 we'd be looking at something like high to Ultra settings running 60 frames at 1080p.

I don't expect 4k at anything higher than 30 frames on low setting if at all but maxing 1080p is totally within reach with this and console optimization. It's a win win because when more advanced upcoming games arrive PS4k will be able to handle them and it will get even more PC support then it does now...can you say Star Citizen PS4, it's highly possible.

Best thing if you aren't ready to upgrade to PS4k when it releases, when you do get tired on the base PS4, you can just move all your current game collection straight to PS4k, no more griping about BC.

"Sony Corp. is planning to sell a more powerful version of its PlayStation 4 machine to handle higher-end gaming experiences, including virtual reality, people familiar with the matter said, while continuing production of its existing console that has so far sold more than 36 million units world-wide.

Existing PlayStation 4 owners would need to buy the new model to take full advantage of the enhanced graphics and power, though it is likely that the current model and the coming one would share the same software catalog, one of the people said.

The new console would be announced before the planned October release of the PlayStation VR, Sony’s new virtual-reality headset, the people said. It would be able to handle ultra-high-definition resolution graphics. The upgraded console would also provide more power for running the PlayStation VR, whose main competitors, Facebook Inc.’s Oculus Rift and HTC Corp.’s Vive, are designed to work with top-shelf computers."

To all the PC nut jobs in this thread, console guys don't want to buy multiple systems or upgrade every 2-3 years, its why we buy consoles in the first place. Why is that so hard for some of you to understand?

Yes it will make owners of the ps4 feel like they got burnt, it will piss them off and it will divide the user base. If Sony and MS both decide to do this it will hurt them a LOT more then it will help. Pissing off your loyal fanbase is never a good thing.

You know it! Especially if it enhances the performance of PSVR. I like how this article says the new console will have the same software lineup as the existing one. I was worried Sony was gonna pull a Nintendo here and split the userbase like they do with their handhelds and the N64 (expansion pak). I feel confident that Sony will pull this off.

Oh, and buy Trackmania Turbo right now! Me and @getyeryayasout need more people to play with.

I didn't even think about that! Strife among the Cows would be glorious to watch. Hopefully there are big resolution and framerate bumps in the new model so the New Hotness Cows can make the Old and Busted Cows can feel like Lems.

MS and Sony are only releasing new consoles because the NX is already going to be on the 14/16nm chips, not hard to put two and two together.

Lets be real here, these aren't rumors anymore (the actual capability of the new system is, tho), the updated PS4 and Bone are incoming. Gamers are complaining about shitty performance in most games (especially since DF became as popular as they're), devs must be bitchin' about the crappy hardware, VR needs more juice, 4k movies need more juice. Its coming for a fact. Good timing as well, it'll be three years since the launch of the ps4, must certainly half of the current gen (i don't think this gen will last over 6 years).

I really don't see it launching this year. Launching two expensive products at the same time doesn't seem like a good move. My money's on Spring 2017, especially since it needs to use Polaris to hit that power target and having a few extra months to let 14nm yeilds improve and competition die down a bit seems like the best move. It's not like Nintendo which has to launch during the holiday season since that's when they get most of their sales.

I think it's the devs complaining about power more than the consumer. The consumers are bitching about there being a stronger console so soon. PS4 being a 4K UHD player, a competent VR contender and the most powerful console are all bullet-points Sony wants to hit. I'm all for it. These consoles came out of the gate behind and are looking rougher by the minute.

I can see that but then it's still PS4, similar to how hermits have busted lower powered PCs and then the select few who have ultra PCs and everyone pretends like the ultra versions are the base models...so everyone just points to the best PCs out and says look at what "PC" can do.

Some will do the same with PS4k and then there will be a lot of arguments that flop flop...I see it coming.

Yeah, something tells me all these 4.5/nx rumors are some lame April fools joke.

Neither system is releasing this year, or ever. Sony is too busy working on their vr release in October, and Nintendo could easily hold off on the nx for a year or two. Despite low unit sales, wiiu is still selling enough games, and there is no reason to piss off it's user base.
