I got two gaming monitors. 24" BenQ 144 hz. I game mostly on PC but it has more or less shifted towards consoles lately. CoD, Monster Hunter and more. Right now my xbox and ps are wired to go through my BenQ monitors, but i'm considering getting Ps4 Pro or Xbox one X, but I quickly discovered there is no reason to upgrade if you dont have the monitor to go with it to enjoy 4K and HDR.

Rather quickly I settled on Samsung u32h850 which shows 4k, has freesync and has gotten great reviews. The kicker is, it doesnt have HDR.

I then looked at samsung 6 series tvs which is around the same price class in the 40" group. It costs about the same and has BOTH 4K and HDR. Im just concerned about input lag and how great HDR really is on smaller tvs. I dont want a 65" on my desk.

Anyone has any experience with this? I want to enjoy the next gen fully, but is a 4K monitor enough or should I buy a tv?

Console games look a lot better on TVs than monitors. Monitors don't have motion blur and frame smoothing so 30 fps looks horrid. My eyes actually water when I try to play console games on a monitor, and that's with a 60 hz monitor (it's even worse on 144 hz).

HDR is great on all screen sizes, it's 4K that is pointless on smaller screens.
