Yes, I'm probably most excited for the PS4's line-up than I've ever been all gen. That being said, there's lots on that line-up that I see people gleeful about that I'm frankly rather meh about, but there's still a good number I am quite excited for. I still prefer my Xbox One overall for a combination of its exclusives, it's BC support, and as my preferred platform for multiplatform gaming, but I got a PS4 to play those PS4 exclusives I couldn't live without, and to date those available have interested me a lot less but the ones that interest me most are right on our doorstep, so I am happy I can start to get more mileage out of my PS4 than I have to date.
Right now I'm most excited for:
- Persona 5
- Nier Automata
- Nioh
- Gravity Rush 2
- Patapon & LocoRoco remasters
- Spiderman
- Detroit
I'm also interest in playing The Last Guardian, but passing at the moment. I'm hoping they patch the Trico AI that I've heard frustrated some gamers and reviewers at certain points in the game, thankfully I've heard they're typically the same problems in same areas so hopefully those issues can be identified more easily and ironed out and by the time I do play it I hope for a seamlessly immersive experience unbroken by overly-frustrating sections.
Also, with all these PlayStation remasters coming out, I hope they focus on bringing back the best of the PS2 days with remasters/remakes. I'd love to see a Fatal Frame collection since Nintendo shit the bed there when they acquired the IP. I'd also love to see a return to the Katamari games, because I'm not really that interested in those other wacky games the creator made like Noby Noby Boy, or that other weird game with dancing donuts shitting sprinkles or whatever that was but yeah, I'd love a Katamari collection of some kind, or remaster(s) of the older game(s). And, if Atlus is going to return to the Sony platforms to push their Shin Megami Tensei franchises and their subseries, I hope they can at least re-release the old PS2 era SMT games like Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2, the Devil Summoner games, a modern collection of the Persona 3 & 4 games, hopefully the best editions like the FES version of P3 and a console version of P4 with The Golden content added. Even with Persona 3 it would be nice if they added P3P content as well as the added feature of full party control during battles, which is hard to go back to not having that after playing Persona 4. I know they already listed tons of HD remasters like Crash, Patapon, LocoRoco, and PaRappa, I really don't mind, but I'd like to see my favorites make it onto market before people get remaster fatigue.
And, I know it's a longshot considering Evolution has basically been disbanded, but I'm hoping SOMEONE please do a remaster collection of the first two Motorstorm games at least. I wouldn't even mind Apocalypse on there either as long as they make tons of substantial changes. One thing I absolutely hated about Apocalypse was it seemed like they designed it like people don't even like racing in first person mode. And it shows in little things like when headchecking in first person, it snaps to a third person exterior camera at a funny angle and that totally ruins the feel of the game for me. I also hate the story campaign mode with no control of race types and car types and that really solidified hatred for the entry. Not to mention when I did play it the environment had many problematic areas that caused me to do weird things, I'm not even talking about shifting terrain but just bad geometry and such could make a seeming straight route and all the sudden a slam into something I shouldn't have or something makes the car flip for no reason. Ugh, I shouldn't think that much about it, doubt it'll happen, just be torturing myself for nothing, but it would be awesome if it did nonetheless.
I'm probably less interested in the things Sony fans are foaming at the mouth over, like Last of Us 2, or even Horizon: Zero Dawn. The new God of War interests me only as far as new setting but the demo we saw didn't show much actual gameplay, it was like movie, waking section (about the only interactive bit of it), even the fighting looked about as interactive as a Telltale game. I want a return to form in the sense of a brutal, over the top, violent, button smasher beat-em-up. Not excited yet for Days Gone, but intrigued. I feel a little bit concerned about it needing to be open world, I feel games try to be unnecessarily and fail at it, I don't mind scripted linear experiences when handled right. Guess we'll see though, I'm not familiar with developer history enough to know what to expect from them.
Anyhow, most my hype for the PS4 seems to currently be almost exclusively tied to the Japanese side of Sony's development efforts. There are some indie games that interest me a great deal but I'm rather limited in a number of ways. I don't game on PS4 enough to feel it's worth getting PS+ subscription to game online, and some games essentially need it. And I'm not comfortable using my CC online with Sony anymore so buying digital only games kind makes me apprehensive over Sony's policies on digital ownership, that and seeing how they treat people with hacked accounts in recovering their money, saying they only refund PSN credit and trying to refund CC means purging account and all digital rights tied to it, so there's that ugly thing to worry about. I know there's workarounds like buying PSN credit on redeem cards. Otherwise I'd be stoked to hear about games like Dreadnought coming to consoles, hopefully it makes its way to XB1 soon enough.
