In a recent interview with Video Game Chronicle, Kamiya and Inaba, Platinum Games’ masterminds talked, amongst others, about their opinion on the next generation of consoles. Kamiya, in particular, was asked about his view on the PS5 hardware, especially the SSD installment. He says that next-gen consoles won’t be without any limitations.

We’ve seen a lot of different generations come and go at this point. With each one we always get a whole lot of talk about what you’ll be able to do. Of course, it’s exciting. Of course, I welcome those new changes, but from experience, every time I’ve gotten my hands on new hardware I always find new walls to run in to. I’m looking forward to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but they might not solve everything.

Sleek, vibrant, and stunning abstract stealth puzzler from Thailand. Rewind time to correct mistakes, as well as fast forward to get a glimpse of the future. Prince of Persia would be proud!

El Hijo is yet to come. PC is king of stealth games.

This has the potential to be the next big thing after Gujian 3.

No English at launch, but the devs have confirmed that it will come at a later date.

That's just true of every gen. no machine is perfectly balanced (how would a console designer even quantify such a concept?).

last gen ram was tight. this gen the CPU and HDD are a problem. next gen i reckon devs will probably start hitting the GPU wall pretty quickly. especially if they are making a game that plays like a current gen game. Vram and memory bandwidth for 4K native could also be tight (though i suspect relatively few games will be native 4K on either console).

it will be interesting to see how well balanced the GPU is also in terms of rasterisation, RT and some possible compute workloads too. will a game that uses RT really hammer performance and make it difficult for the developer to still use the rest of the GPU efficiently?

But yeah: every box has its limitations and problems. Overall the PS5 and XSX look to be very solid consoles though given the constraints a console designer works under.

@NoodleFighter: @davillain-: Inb4 console warriors start bashing Kamiya lol. PC less talk, more action.

It's a coincidence that all 3 games have been in development for 5 years.

Umm, doesn’t every single system in existence have their own limitations?

A 2080TI tanks under RT, console will be stuck at 4K/30FPS. Unless they really dial shit back, I would prefer MS and Sony to not bother with it and use Epics solution.

That's why I like Japanese developers in general but specifically Platinum and Kamiya. They say it like it's and never suger coat. Kamiya is notorious for sh*tting on publishers of his games.

@Random_Matt: aye true. I suspect a lot of cuda cores are sitting there doing SFA when RT is enabled on the 2080TI. Hopefully the balance for RDNA2 and the RTX 3000 series is better in that regard.

Wait, you mean hardware has limitations? I never knew that. I thought new hardware was limitless. 😒

Every piece of hardware has limitations. A $100 million supercomputer has limitations.

That's such an obvious thing to point out. Hardware that can't be upgraded will have limitations! no duh...

Dumbed down 30 fps console experience. He knows the truth. PC has suffered a lot.

My money is on PC. Consoles have lost its charm.
