PS5 library so far - one of the better launch lineups in a long time?

The PS5 has gotten to a very strong start. Sales are on fire and the console actually has worthwhile titles to own. Compared to last gen launch, the library is much better. The PS4 launched with Killzone Shadowfall and Knack lol. At least Resogun was good. But the PS5? Sony nailed its first AAAE right at launch with Demon Soul's remake. Sitting at 92 on metacritic, it's easily one of the standout titles for the system. I see some people trying to downplay it by saying it's a port of a 10 year old game yada yada. But it's actually more than that. A remake of one of the best games of all time. If someone said hey we're going to give you one of the best games of all time, refined for today's next gen console, are you really going to say no to that? I digress. The system has also launched with the excellent Miles Morales, which has been selling like hot cakes. Sure, it's also on PS4, but the definitive experience is on PS5. There's also a little known title that launched free on the system called Astro's Playroom. While it was designed to show off the DualSense features, it's actually a fun game and is currently sitting on a 83 on metacritic, with a 9.3 user score. And finally, Returnal. You already know the buzz with this one, and indeed it is one of the first games in my opinion that really offers/entices the next gen experience that people are clamoring for. On top of all this, Ratchet and Clank comes out next month and we're only halfway through 2021. There's still more to come, including the wonderful and highly anticipated Horizon Forbidden West 😎 And that's on top of the already strong 3rd party support it's getting.

So what say you, SW? Is the PS5 library one of the better launch lineups in a long time? Where would it rank for you? I think right now it's definitely up top somewhere, if not the best.

Yup. Sony has been providing NEW games, and that's all I can ask for. This is their best console launch year as far as first party games so far.

Demon's Soul is a remake of a 9 year old game and I was preached upon that gamers don't buy new systems to play old games. It was repeated over and over, we don't buy new consoles for old experiences. All of sudden Sony fannies are singing a different tune. 😂 Then we have Miles Morales, a game that is on the PS4. Again, it was touted over and over that the only reason to buy a new consoles is for exclusives. Like the "no one plays old games" mantra, Sony fannies are changing their song again with a cross gen game. Astro bot is a cool demo but NO-ONE is buying a PS5 to play Astro-bot. It is also interesting that Horizon Forbidden West is being mentioned when it is also coming to the PS4. 😂

When we think of launch lineup, we typically refer to games that are exclusive to the platform day one and not what is coming the following year. We also typically talk about launch titles as games that moves units such as Breath of the Wild. Not games that apparently has fallen off the charts one week after it has been released 5 months after the console launched.

With that said, this next gen is exactly what I anticipated to be, a closer to a mid gen upgrade more than anything.

At least previous launches had good new games at launch.

Saying otherwise is wishful thinking, both new consoles are selling on the fact they are new and can play old games better.

Demon's souls doesn't appeal to everyone and Miles is playable on PS4

Returnal is a roguelike which is a niche genre. MS is worse only really have The Medium.

Saying these consoles are better or "on fire" is wishful thinking.

I haven't played one new title on my PS5 as nothing has been worth it to me.

This gen as far as new systems and launch titles sucked. There is no pretending to the contrary. It is also the first time that I have seen "launch window" used to pacify owners of these new systems.

Honestly, it just comes down tom what "game" you wanna play on that looks fun to the average gamer. Every launch console/games is a hit or a miss.

It's one of the best last gen I didn't get a ps4 till Bloodborne came out.

This one had Demon Souls Remake / Spiderman / Miles Morales / GodFall (games i never played before) and now has Returnal

I waited awhile to get a ps4 but I want ps5 day one just like PS2. Sony off to a great start and ratchet coming soon too wow great job boys.

While it doesn't have a Super Mario 64 or Halo Combat Evolved equivalent the PS5 has had the best start of any console in a long time. Demon's Souls, Miles Morales, Returnal and Ratchet is one hell of a launch window lineup.

Resident Evil 8 is one of the best games in series... and it released in your "launch window" so theres that.

I do however recall that this forum was criticizing Switch's launch lineup saying it could not count BotW because of the WiiU release. By these rules, Myles Morales is a scratch.

Leaves you with Demons Souls and Returnal as launch exclusives. If I ever pick up a ps5 Ill probably get Demons Souls but I hear that all the enemies are in the same places so it dimmed by excitement a bit. Sony definitely needs to bring some more of their polish to the PS5 soon.

I wouldn't say the PS5 launched with a great lineup, but it's certainly head and shoulders above what Xbox has served up.

Kinda...but its not saying much as many launch window games have been pants on new systems in recent memory.

The only PS5 exclusive that actually has me interested is Astros playroom. Demons souls is a remake of a PS3 game in a series that doesnt interest me. MM can be played on the PS4.

Returnal looks neat but its not making me really desire a PS5 on its own. After that im struggling to even think of a PS5 game thats taking my fancy at the moment.

I do want to get a PS5 but the main reason at the moment is to play PS4 games since i never had a PS4. PS5 games wise...well the best is yet to come....er....i hope :S.

No rush though. i'm happy to wait till next year and GT7 (hopefully with VR support).

Halo Infinite is gonna be huge for Xbox this holiday if it actually releases and is a good game haha. What will Sony counter it with?

love Demons souls. dont care what people says about remake. its still better than upgrade. its the game that makes you feel its next gen. looking forward playing returnal.

Seeing that this thread was based off of an opinion, I agree with that opinion. This gen had launch with a great CoD (to me at least) and to me, the sports games have looked significantly better compared to last gen, not to mention that last gen kind of went out with a bang so to me this gen gave really lived up. The only reason why I’m currently stuck with the amount of games that I have is because of storage limitations.

Yea, the 3rd party support has been better than ever. I think the new hardware helps for sure.

Objectively speaking it's not and that has nothing to do with being a lem, cow, sheep or herm. The launch games were subpar at best and no I don't count games coming out 6 months AFTER the actual launch.

Half a year later isn't launch, so not counting Returnal, the PS5 got Astro's Playroom, a remake of Demon's Souls and a DLC for an (average) PS4 game.

I never played Spiderman on ps4 I never played demon souls on ps3 those were NEW GAMES TO ME THERE NEW TO ME TRHERE BUILT FOR PS5 right now kid.

But you haven't turned on your PS since 2019 either and your Xbox is in the closet. No one is surprised you haven't played any of those games. That still doesn't negate the fact that Demon Souls is a PS3 remake, MM is an expansion and available on the PS4 and the other is a demo.
