[QUOTE="Juggernaut140"] The only difference between the set playlists and the map pack playlists is that the map pack playlists are based around new maps :|lawlessx

There are only 3 playlists that you don't need the map packs to play

did you download the free map pack?

Yeah I did, heroic and the other one, twice

Pure milkage.

I bought my 360 last week with a gold membership and Halo 3

Well, I discover today that out of the 15 matchmaking playlists, I am only able to select 3 of them because I do not have the Legendary or Mythic map packs

In my opinion that is disgusting. I paid for the game and a live membership, but now I can't even play half of the game. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Sure LIVE has more features overall, but the PSN is far superior when it comes to value

thelastguy

There's OTHER GAMES out there that are better than Halo 3. Don't discredit an entire online service on a single game.

Because Live revolves around Halo 3  Map packs have nothing to with Live. The problem you encountered was a Halo 3 problem. Besides, there are still plenty of other maps in Halo 3 (including the Heroic Map pack that is free. So there.

Well its the same with Warhawk really. You cant say MS is the only one who does this practice. Hell look at Metal Gear Online - its 'dlc expansion' crazy. - However the Gold subscription is a ripoff, nontheless. Nothing changes that.

Actually, this is Microsoft's fault. Bungie has stated countless times on their website that they have no control over whether the map packs are free or cost money. I'd be willing to bet (if they could) Bungie would release every map pack except mythic for free.

What does that have to do with XBL? Bungie is in charge of what maps are part of what playlist.

PBSnipes

Not according to TC its all evil M$'s problem. But anyway TC next time your going to make a thread bashing Xbox live make sure that it doesn't have huge flaws in it next time that we can pick you apart over, because M$ is not to blame here, Bungie is. And even they aren't either because they want to make money after all, plus its not like you can't play Halo 3 online, its just that some games are restricted. So what either buy the pack and join the others, or don't and just have a limited game selection list. Either way you can still play the game so who cares?

and bungie lies, the developer terms of service when it comes to DLC states that if a dlc is to be free then the money to host it, run it, and all around for it has to come from the developer, if not then the user has to pay for it. Bungie decided not to pay for legendary and mythic therefor the user is charged for it, if developers were to bite the bullet then the mappacks would be free.

in-game voice chat, cross game parties and voice messaging is pretty much it

Playstation 3 has all of that. In game voice, voice messaging, but not sure what you mean about cross game parties.

If you don't want to buy dlc and want to play all the playlists then go buy cod waw/mw or gears 2. It isn't even worth buying the Halo maps anyway because: 1. The game sucks online 2. ODST will have them all!

Playstation 3 has all of that. In game voice, voice messaging, but not sure what you mean about cross game parties.

It means's if we are friends, and you are playing Gears of War, and I am playing Halo 3 (or doing anything at all on xbox live) I will know you are online. We can even chat in a group of up to 8 people even if we are all playing different games. Then we could organize playing say Left 4 Dead together now since we all know we are all online just from signing into Xbox live. It's like a continuous network of say Resistance 2, or Killzone 2's friends lists that applies to all of Xbox live all the time.

Is it worth 50$ a year? Not really. But If I want to play Halo or Gears or any multiplats with my friends (the only friend of mine with a PS3 won't even play online), I choose to pay.

Since I do pay however I find it to be a nice feature and use it constantly. Saves me from the little kids singing and stuff. It's a feature I wish PS3 would adopt. I also wish they would pack a Mic in the box.

1) Opinion (minority at that)

If you can hold of till ODST I believe it will contain all the maps. It does comes with mythic.

Well then I would not mind paying for the maps, because I do not pay for the service

It is infuriating to have to buy the game, pay for live and have to buy more maps to get to actually play

thelastguy

well why did you buy a 360 in the first place?? you knew all that going into it, so dont complain now. geez man, there is just no pleasing you, just give up gaming altogether then.

I was not aware that Bungie and MS would indirectly force me into bying the map packs

I see what you mean, I only just recently bought the Legendary, and had access to all the servers, but then the Mythic pack released and now I have to purchase that to get the other half of the servers unlocked again. It's probably not such a big issue as the price comes to like $20 more in total, and besides which, there are plenty of servers to play on (even if it's only 3 out of 15, you will definitely be placed in an inhabited one).

I love how people try to justify the price of XBL.. I mean maybe you would have an argument if they offered dedicated servers but they don't and the online experience on PSN is much better, not bad for a free service :)

By all means continue paying $60 a year :) Having to pay for DLC every few months just to be able to carry on playing your favourite game must be a laugh as well :D

alot of ps3 games have downloadable content too. i prefer live as all games have demos, downloads/installs are much faster, and it has better connectivity with friends. Otherwise i'd say they are equal.

I'll keep on paying 30.00 for 13months, thank you. And the differences in XBL vs PSN are fully worth $2.30 a month to me. There are alot of usuability features of XBL that make it worth it over PSN for me.

Seriously, you spend more money on a basic cheeseburger and fries (no drink) from McDonalds, than you spend for a month XBL's superior service. And if you haven't used XBL extensively (not for 10 minutes over your friends house), you have no idea how much better it is. Definitely worth the cash.

PSN = not as good as Live. Remember, quality over quantity (kind of backwards right now). But I do wish I got a PS3 instead of a 360. I'm only allowed to play video games about once a month at most, so $50 a year for Live DEFINATELY isn't even worth thinking about. Oh well, at least we have better games...for now. PS3 is catching up fast...

I'd say PSN is better than Live. Better selection of newer online games, support for bigger games, dedicated server support, support for more user generated content (little big planet, mods in UT3), less DRM on purchased games, Internet Browser, Remote play (use my PSP/PS3 to watch Netflix, Hulu, etc anywhere), HOME (which is getting better and better all the time). So 360 has 1 or 2 minor features that PSN doesn't have, but PSN overall has more and is the better system, not to mention all free.

LIVE is best for the ease of use and great features. I'll pay $50 a year for the best online of any current console. One thing you need to remember, specifically for Halo, is that Halo has a rabid fanbase, most of whom prolly bought map packs on day one. The people without those map packs are in the minority. Therefore, Bungie caters more towards the true Halo fans, rather than the casual people who will play Halo and wont notice the lower matches available anyways. As someone who does not own the Halo map packs, I agree with how Halo 3 does their matchmaking.

Not really, before the mythic map pack came out if you didn't have any of the paid map packs you were already very limited. My gold membership expired so I never played again, but with a new pack it must be even worse now.

Except for the little thing that psn gets errors and is alot less reliable, and the fact you private chat while in game, it's practically unusable.

My mistake, I meant legendary

Those aren't free yet? Hmm..yea I'm gonna have to side with ya on that one then, they should be able to bring you to matchmaking with your certain types of maps that you have to resolve that issue. Sorry to guys like you getting low-balled like that, then again I don't think you can link this to XBL but to Bungie's playlists you could probably message them on their website about it.

Except for the little thing that psn gets errors and is alot less reliable, and the fact you private chat while in game, it's practically unusable.

That is false, if you are getting errors it's on your side because I never get them. Try running your router in DMZ mode for the PS3 if you can't set up your firewall correctly.

[QUOTE="killerfist"][QUOTE="death919"]Don't you mean that out of the 15 playlists, 3 required the mappack?Eddie-Vedder
That would be more accurate probably:P

Not really, before the mythic map pack came out if you didn't have any of the paid map packs you were already very limited. My gold membership expired so I never played again, but with a new pack it must be even worse now.

Yeah, you're right. I just checked, you can't even play Team Slayer without the Legendary mappack anymore. Weird.

[QUOTE="RM84x"]

psn - free

xbl - 50 bucks every year

sikanderahmed

PS3 costs £300

Xbox 360 Elite Costs £220

360 Elite with 2 years of XBL would cost less then ps3

PSN - Free FOREVER XBL - Why would you only get 2 years of XBL? This gen will last atleast 5-6 years...possibly more... so assuming you have XBL every year, that's WAYY more than Ps3.
