This is all from speculation, so no flamming.

No matter how good PSN is, XBL will always be better. Unless Microsoft decides to make XBL free (which I doubt they will), XBL will always have more features.

PSN is certain to have features such as home, and even more in the future, but XBL will still be better. I sound like a fanboy right now, but listen to this.

People will not pay for XBL, if it is inferior to PSN. Microsoft will always be making more features, and extending services because of this. No matter how they do it, whether it is to copy some of the services that Sony made or whether it is to make gimmicks and newer services. XBL will always have more.

Who would pay for XBL if PSN is better? So thus by going by that logic, XBL should always be atleast one step ahead of PSN, just to give people a reason to pay for XBL.

Note: My logic won't work if Microsoft decides to make XBL free, or if Sony decides to make PSN cost.

You might argue about how those services are needed or are just gimmicks, but XBL will have more.

I don't understand why people say that XBL is so much greater than PSN.....I mean it is nice......but techincally seeing as how PSN runs off dedicated servers and XBL runs on peer to peer......Doesn't that just show the exact opposite and that PSN>XBL (atleast in the regard of online gameplay which IMO is the most important aspect of playing games online).

Uhhh...if you only own an Xbox360 and you want to play online, you'll be forced to pay for Live. There's no need for MS to continually trump PSN. So no, I disagree. I think XBL will always be better in some ways because it came out first. The only way to improve is thru experience and MS has plenty of that. I think PSN will have a strong following because it's free. People always love free.

There's only so much that Microsoft can do be ahead.

The only two things Xbox Live has up on PSN is unified friends lists (which are very likely to be added in the future) and dedicated servers. PSN will likely, by the end of this generation, have everything but dedicated servers and still be free, it will then be up for the consumer to decide whether or not dedicated servers are worth the $4 a month.

Yeah thats the best thing going for it free...and dedicated servers...but those dedicated servers...might be slow when Home comes out.

Then can you tell me why the PS3 is not greater than the Xbox 360? Based off your logic, it already failed, and has no chance.

using the word "always" is a bit of a stretch in my mind (after all, there are no guarentees), but i can see where your going with that

however, that logic relies to heavily on the consumer's opinion of what is "better", in order for what you say to work, you have to assume that everyone thinks that XBL will always be better because people are paying for it, and that XBL is better because people are paying for it (circular logic doesn't always work well)

also, more features doesn't always translate to better service

So, are those extra features worth the cost? Home is probably the biggest online step I have seen this generation. It's enhancing on everything that the 360 has, and seems to be adding more in.

I really can't tell the difference between them.. PSN is the same to me, I can still do everything I can do on xbox live except for inviting friends to games... and thats about it.. they both allow me to play games online easily only one is free and one is not.

Then you run the risk of games like MGS3 or many EA games where they just die off and are no longer available to play online.

With peer to peer, I can still play Crimson Skies, Conker and the original Ghost Recon.

But... feature for feature, XBL does have more features than PSN.  More than enough to justify its cost.

Copy Sony's huh? If they did that, I still don't know how XBL can outperform PSN. As for more features, they can improve upon them, yes. All that matters is if those features are better than the PSN's. If not, XBL loses just because it's free. Just like how if a game goes multplat, 360 wins because it is a cheaper console, and looks anything from the same to better on the 360 at the moment.

Cut Nintendo a break, I think they are trying, but I think they will find it most difficult to develop and implement an online service and strategy. Its very complex.

Its taken Sony years to get this far even with their resources.

Microsoft are good at this sort of thing, its their domain so it makes sense they would produce something like Xbox Live.

But I think Nintendo are walking a little blind here. They are completely out of their environment here.

If you lot only new how complicated it was to have such a service working globally, we wouldn't blame anyone.

That, my friend is not true, XBL doesn't run solely on P2P. It's a mix of P2P or dedicated servers. Halo 2 runs on dedicated server only while games like Gears of War uses Peer to Peer. Most EA Games run mainly on dedicated servers too. They use their EA Servers. gnutux

Not really. More people use XBL than PSN, so the majority of gamers on this website have probably already experienced XBL.

it's true.

sony has been put in the lousy position of playing perpetual catch-up with xbox live for the rest of its existance.

and to those hyping HOME, wait until you actually get the features you were promised.

sony hyped their AOL/Sony "xbox live killer" service last year to sell adapters.. and yet.. it never happened...

with sony, what you're promised is most times different that what you actually get...;)

It's all opinion, I guess. If you are a casual online gamer who wants to easily get into an online game, then I'd reccomend PSN. If you want to invite your friend to a game, talk to him, and download a TV show: then I'd recommend XBL. I personally prefer PSN, I only have to push 2-3 buttons to get into a game in Resistance or Motorstorm.

Thanks man. I have a mic (use my bluetooth from my cell phone) but in a lot of games no one is talking. It just gets frustrating in RFOM. :(

You guys can't be serious. PSN is a shell of what XBL is. Heck, PSN can't even get the friends list right. 95% of PSN users don't use a mic.

In fact, I'd almost go as far as to say that PSN's friends list is useless at the moment. No game invites, no in-game messaging, no cross-game invites.

 Are u serious? No one has a microphone. I can't tell what my friends are doing nor can I private chat. To each their own, but I find that statement very strange. BTW, nice pic in your sig.

I can see what my friends are doing. It says underneath their name, and I can start chatrooms too, if I wanted to, I think. You can't do that?... Oh, and thanks. :P

Yeah PSN is very good. The only people who bash it are the ones who aren't familiar with it.

I use it and I don't "bash it" per se, but it does not hold a candle to XBL.

I respect your opinion and you are right it is all opinion. But you also just have to push a couple of buttons to join a friends game on XBL. I think PSN will def. improve, I am curious to see how MS will react.

Yeah I can do that but I like private chat WHILE playing a game. I also like jumping in friends games. Things I am possitive that will be added to PSN over time. Just for NOW, it doesn't have these features.
