 Are u serious? No one has a microphone. I can't tell what my friends are doing nor can I private chat. To each their own, but I find that statement very strange. BTW, nice pic in your sig.

Ever thought of not paying for a service? Oh, and you can private chat using the PSN. Why don't you play it before you bash it?

Dhjohns, just get a Bluetooth headset and you can start chatting on PSN.

You can even have voice conferencing, which XBL still doesn't have.

gnutux

1. how much more does a bluetooth headset cost?  wow..some "free" service... it's only free after you pay out ofyour own pocket for things that come free with xbox live.

2. xbox live has video chat... wtf...

In fact, I'd almost go as far as to say that PSN's friends list is useless at the moment. No game invites, no in-game messaging, no cross-game invites.

I hate the 360 interface. It's clunky and not at all enjoyable to use. Perhaps if that was better, I'd prefer Live over PSN.

Senario:

I'm the middle of any game.

Message: Your friend Gamer1 has logged on.

Message: Gamer1 has sent you a Voice Message.

Play Message: "Yo, Let's play some Gears/or anything other game."

*Click Accecpt*

*Change Disk*

*Load Gears*

Play with friend.

Simple things like this is what puts XBL above anything other On-Line Platform.

I just feel alot more connected on XBL when when I'm on PSN.

I don't understand why people say that XBL is so much greater than PSN.....I mean it is nice......but techincally seeing as how PSN runs off dedicated servers and XBL runs on peer to peer......Doesn't that just show the exact opposite and that PSN>XBL (atleast in the regard of online gameplay which IMO is the most important aspect of playing games online).MikeE21286
Wait, XBL has no dedicated servers? Just what are you paying for?

Yeah I can do that but I like private chat WHILE playing a game. I also like jumping in friends games. Things I am possitive that will be added to PSN over time. Just for NOW, it doesn't have these features.

Yeah PSN is very good. The only people who bash it are the ones who aren't familiar with it.

I use it and I don't "bash it" per se, but it does not hold a candle to XBL.

It's all opinion, I guess. If you are a casual online gamer who wants to easily get into an online game, then I'd reccomend PSN. If you want to invite your friend to a game, talk to him, and download a TV show: then I'd recommend XBL. I personally prefer PSN, I only have to push 2-3 buttons to get into a game in Resistance or Motorstorm.

I respect your opinion and you are right it is all opinion. But you also just have to push a couple of buttons to join a friends game on XBL. I think PSN will def. improve, I am curious to see how MS will react.

Thank You. The reason I dislike XBL is that many of the games do not use dedicated servers: mainly Gears of War and R6:Vegas. Because of this, it is difficult to get into a game sometimes. I was really impressed with the matchmaking interface Resistance and Halo 2 used. In my opinion, they should be a standard in the industry.

With multiple friends lists (see RFoM), 95% of users being silent, no game invites, no feedback;  I have to disagree.

XBL is much easier to use, has a universal friends list, and most users have a mic.

XBL is catered more towards the casual gamers. PSN, right now, towards the hardcore.  It's really no contest.

[QUOTE="SpaceDragonMan"]Cut Sony a break. It might not be as good as XBL but atleast they're trying. UNLIKE NINTENDO...Darth_DuMas

Cut Nintendo a break, I think they are trying, but I think they will find it most difficult to develop and implement an online service and strategy. Its very complex.

Its taken Sony years to get this far even with their resources.

Microsoft are good at this sort of thing, its their domain so it makes sense they would produce something like Xbox Live.

But I think Nintendo are walking a little blind here. They are completely out of their environment here.

If you lot only new how complicated it was to have such a service working globally, we wouldn't blame anyone.

But that's still not an excuse. They should have worked on online a long time ago. They SUDDENLY realised how high the demand for online is and now they're kinda starting with the wii. See that's the problem with Nintendo, they're arrogant. They don't listen to the customers, they just like to do their own thing. The basic rules of supply and demand doesn't apply to nintendo. I mean who the hell want's weather on the console? who want's to create a childlike doll of themselves instead of putting their picture in their profile. Who doesn't want head set support? Who wants  to remember a8 diggit code to add a friend?

I agree with you. I am not hyping it, I just think Sony will offer these things over time to stay competitive. But who knows maybe not. It would need to improve greatly for me to pay for it.

Same can be said about XBL. "The only people whom bash it are the ones who aren't familiar with it"

Except most people who don't use PSN don't even know that you use the same usertag for every game. People are a lot less familiar with PSN.

This is all from speculation, so no flamming.

No matter how good PSN is, XBL will always be better. Unless Microsoft decides to make XBL free (which I doubt they will), XBL will always have more features.

PSN is certain to have features such as home, and even more in the future, but XBL will still be better. I sound like a fanboy right now, but listen to this.

People will not pay for XBL, if it is inferior to PSN. Microsoft will always be making more features, and extending services because of this. No matter how they do it, whether it is to copy some of the services that Sony made or whether it is to make gimmicks and newer services. XBL will always have more.

Who would pay for XBL if PSN is better? So thus by going by that logic, XBL should always be atleast one step ahead of PSN, just to give people a reason to pay for XBL.

Note: My logic won't work if Microsoft decides to make XBL free, or if Sony decides to make PSN cost.

You might argue about how those services are needed or are just gimmicks, but XBL will have more.

The_Nemacyst
Peopel will pay for XBL if they only have a 360 to go online with.Lucky for me I have a PS3 and 360 and haven't seen the need to renew my XBL subscibtion since I got my PS3. I'll wait till there's something Like Forza2 or Halo3 before I renew my live subscription again.

I prefer the x360 interface.

You can customize your background. You can organize your music. You know when your friends sign in. You can join their game or invite them to yours. You can access you friends, messages, music at any time while in game or not.

PS Store's text is too small. You basically need a mouse to navigate is correctly.

In fact, I'd say only the Wii's dashboard can match the Xbox360's fluidity.

I own a PS3 and rented Motorstorm. I'd say about 30% of the gamers used a mic. And that's being optimistic.

Music in a game is 360's major advantage for me. I really want that to be included in a firmware update for the PS3. PS Store's text is fine for me, though I suppose it depends on what TV you have.

At least you can organize your music in the X360 and make your own playlists rather than having them all listed in order like on the PS3. Really, the mutimedia functions of the x360, right now, blow away what the PS3 offers. It's not even close.

Also, if you have a remte, you can change/pause/stop music at any time. I do it all the time because I run custom soundtracks.

TC please answer my question, since you seem to have alot of knowlege and stuff

Here are few things that XBL Gold has over PSN:

  • Infrastructure that allows the community to self-govern: Gamer zone, Rep, Prefer/avoid, Feedback, Acvite monitoring of feedback
  • Matchmaking that takes that all into account
  • Functional cross-game invite system that brings you straight into a friend's session
  • Closed, secure network that actively checks for modded consoles

How's that?

That's not even counting the tournaments and scheduled events

So, you prefer a static background as opposed to one that you can customize to your liking? That's odd.

Only in the XMB do you know when your friends sign on. I never see a message a friend signed on when I'm playing a game.

I never mentioned the 'button'. I find that the sliding menu is slow to appear and often flickers etc. I also find that the controls are unresponsive and that moving around the menu is also slow. Simply changing songs using that interface is annoying. That's why I said clunky...

wow..mine's not like that at all..

i don't know what you're talkking about with the "sliding menus"..

i'm doubting you even have 'live..

what's your GT?

I think he is referring to the blade menus. Could be wrong.

Heh. My tag is InfinityOnH1gh, check my profile. :?... I'm talking about the menus that appear from the side of the screen. I can't be any clearer than that.

[QUOTE="SolidSnake35"] I prefer to PS3 background over all of the 360 ones. The PS3 can organise music as well. You know when friends sign in on the PS3 too. The 360 has the invites and the PS3 doesn't, fair point. Music in a game is 360's major advantage for me. I really want that to be included in a firmware update for the PS3.

PS Store's text is fine for me, though I suppose it depends on what TV you have.LosDaddie

So, you prefer a static background as opposed to one that you can customize to your liking? That's odd.

Only in the XMB do you know when your friends sign on. I never see a message a friend signed on when I'm playing a game.

I think the PS3 background is really nice, but that's just my preference.... And both Live and PSN have messages which notify the user of friends signing in and out.

3 billion.... And thus why XBL will always be better than PSN, well atleast it will have more. Does PSN have downloadable HD Movies? Does PSN have what the guy above me mentioned? Does PSN have IPTV? Does PSN come out with demos every week? Does PSN have a large selection of arcade games? Does PSN have all games online?

I just want to play online without paying for useless features that comes with the Gold Membership. $10 for Pink Membership with onlineplay sounds good.

Hey, that's perfectly fine.  If all you want is bare bones, that's entirely respectable.  I mean, regular broadcast TV is just fine too.

One the other hand, there are people like myself that don't mind paying a premium for cable to satellite TV with DVR

Similar. It's black at night and pink during the day, and the background moves.

What you just mentioned there is accessible by Silver members also.  Now look beyond the actual physical console.  MS also provides:

  • Connectivity to the web.  I like being able to log into my account on xbox.com to check my messages and see what my friends are up to.
  • MS has resources whose job is to specifically connect with the community.  Major Nelson, Trixie... and the support they give to fan site, like the guys who created my gamercard in my sig.

Best thing about XBL as I see it... The demos are free. Unlike PSN... Sure you might get a free one now and then. But in the end your spending just as much as XBL users for the same content.

Don't worry you will. PSN has alot of hand outs from Sony. Don't expect them to keep it free for long.

PSN has handouts from Sony???  What does this mean?......PSN stands for PlayStation Network.  Playstation is owned by Sony.  How could they receive "handouts" from Sony when they are owned by Sony.

That depends on preference. All I focused on was how XBL will always have more features, I'm trying not to look like a 100% fanboy.

Oh, nothing. I just thought that most of the demos on PSN were PS3 exclusives.

The fact that PSN is free > All those little s**ty features that xbox live has that nobody needs..  They both play games online that is all that is needed. And as I recall resistance fall of man has matchmaking doesn't it? You can still arranage games by sending messages to eachother.

Free stuff is never better.....XBL is just more put together

-You got your freinds list that you can view in a click of a button
- You can send messages or chat with your friends well your playing with somebody else
- Xbox live vision
- You can send pictures to your friends
- Servers are alot better then PSN

Home will suck because you will have to pay for things in it like virtual furni etc...
