Because you could make a car out of tree bark and it would be free but it would suck or you could buy a real car that actually works and drive somewhere. That's pretty much the difference.:wink:Â
Lemmings like the Xbox live because of Achievement points. Thats really the only significicant difference and one that doesnt appeal to me at all.

Considering XBL silver allows you to do all the same things as gold except for online play, it really comes down to this...
Xbox live uses Microsofts servers, therefor the game developers can integrate online into their games with out assuming the cost of implementing and maintaining servers. Making them (in theory) more likely to make every game online) With PSN, online is more or less on the game developer. So developers are less likely to put PS3 games online.
XBL costs the customer, PSN costs the developer.
All the extra features XBL features the PS3 doesn't have, could be implemented in a firmware upgrade. The only thing that would be impossible would be cross game voice chat.
But I will be the first to admit; the PSN store, friendlists and voice support in games are severally lacking compared to XBL.
Please cows telll me how did the GRAW 2 Demo play on the Ps3. How was Def Jam Icon or NBA Homecourt Demo on the PSN. How do well do you think VT3 will be on the PSN.ps3-nikita
The content available is not because people pay for XBL. It is because there are significantly more people on XBL than PSN. This time last year, there were no demos on XBL. When PSN picks up steam, there will be plenty of demos. XBL also gives a clear statistic of how many people use the service, PSN is alittle more vague as it is free with each system, but you can't tell if someone really isn't going to use it. Each XBL subscription is considered to belong to a person who is online regularly.
In another thread like this a week or so ago, someone gave a great list.Â
But it's just no contest. There's really not that much difference between PS2 and PS3 online. It's the same disorganized mess, but with a PSN Store that doesn't actually have anything to buy in it.
XBL vs. PSN? XBL you pay $$$, PSN is completely free! I'm not sure_LiquidFlame_Then think about what you're getting from each one. Yep PSN is pretty bare.
yea I suppose XBL owns PSN, but what if Sony does somthing amazing to PSN??? Like makes it better. Better than XBL!Then you would be getting charged for it.

yea I suppose XBL owns PSN, but what if Sony does somthing amazing to PSN??? Like makes it better. Better than XBL!It would have to do alot to outdo XBL. First of all they would need another 6 million members and not 20 accounts per person.

You are telling me all those online services that every 360 owner enjoys, isnt in partly paid off by the gold members. Please! Let me know where you get our free bandwidth.Xbox Live will be free for everyone when it hits Windows Vista, quote me on that.Kayrod29Would make sense wouldn't it :)

XBL had plenty of demos by this time last year. FNR3 was a huge demo and was very popular.
And besides, what excuse do you have for PSN not getting new demos like GRAW3, NBA Street, etc?
live is good, it make bunch of ppl funny cuz they pay for which billions get for free for PC. Its just a convention of comediants.xBALOxPC has a universal Friends list? wow never knew you can update some of you PC stuff through a mobil phone! When was IPTV annouced for the PC?
Because Microsoft found a way to charge money for something that no one else charges for and has always been free and convinced people its a good idea. It is better but it could be better and be free. The PC proved that a long time ago.echelonDo you still have a hiding spot behind the PC? I want to hide too.

Bandwidth for online games and bandwidth for download services are two totally different things. They simply put the file up on a server for download. How fast it downloads is more a factor of your ISP than of XBL. Games require up and down, which is expensive, downloads is all down, which is cheap. I assure you, most of the XBL subscription fee is going right into MS's pockets, the rest is for online play.
As for the hosting of the content, that's paid for by someone else other than XBL subscribers and MS. Demos are payed for by the game developers; videos, shows and movies are paid for by the studios, they pay Microsoft to put there stuff up. Wether it be an upfront cost or a precentage of the earnings, they pay for it. They would not put stuff up if they had no idea if anyone would download it. XBL subscriber account numbers are a good indication of that. That money is directly used to pay for those servers. The amount of content is related to how many people they know will download it. Right now, the success of the PSN is up in the air, if it gets as big as XBL there will be plenty of content available. Besides, PSN users pay nothing and can download all the same types of things, demos, trailers, game content and play games online lag free for $0. There was almost no content on XBL for the first 3 to 6 months. Only after the install base started to climb, did it fill out.
I think XBL is a superior online service right now, and a huge money maker for MS, but the sole reason why you pay for XBL and not PS3 is because of who maintains the game servers, it's not for the content. Online gameplay is the only difference between silver and gold.
The money that comes from the consumers goes towards XBL (85% does). MS also has to pay the networks... where does that money come from? It comes from the people that buy & rent TV shows or Movies.ps3-nakita

Aside from having the most games, this is why the 360 is so popular!

MS does not pay the networks. The networks pay MS a small percentage of each show/movie/video sold to put their content on Live.
If you pay for XBL gold and the people who don't pay for XBL silver, get all the same features as you, why wouldn't you be pissed? The only difference is online play and occasioanlly getting content sooner.
If people didn't buy XBL gold, MS would eventually make it free. If people keep buying XBL gold, they will take continue to take away features from XBL silver.
At this time, online play is the only reason why anyone pays for XBL. The content is a result of people using the service, not paying for it. If PSN gets a larger install base, it gets more content, just like XBL. PSN has problems, but all of which can be fixed in a firmware upgrade. Online play is lag free, and content downloads are available.
I have no problem paying for my XBL subscription, and I'd have no problem paying for PSN, but unlike alot of people I know what I am paying for. And with the exception of universal voice chat, they could do everything they do on XBL on the PSN and still keep it free.
If Sony charged for what they have now, they would be in a world of hurt. Their online system is crippled and seem quite unfinished. Live was awesome from the get go despite having to pay. Albeit, you have nothing to compare it to, other than the PC, but lets face not all console gamers are pc gamers. Microsoft filled a need and knew people would pay for it so they deliver a quality product. Sony is playing catchup and will continue to play catchup with its online service. They never should have promised anything with it, but seeing how successful live is, they had to react.Â
This whole next gen war is full of reactions from the enemy. The leader and innovator will win, right now that goes to MS and NINTY sorry Sony you are running the other direction.Â
