[QUOTE="bdum_pshhh"]

Sony haven't set any UK price yet, this is just placeholder prices until we get an official UK price, and if TC took any notice of Sony E3 conference he'd know that it cost €250 in Europe.

MJPK

I know it was priced at €250 at E3 but I check the price of it online and that's the price I found.

I don't really know any European (non UK) game electronics retailers, I'm sure if you look on some of their sites you'll find it.

How dares Sony release a quality product that actually lasts and charge for it accordingly!? They should just release a piece of garbage that breaks in 3 months and it's build cheap (of course then you get money for over-charging for any extra accesory you need for it to function properly)!Odrec

So if high priced = quality; and the price of this thing is right next to the PS3, you're saying the PS3 is made of cheap garbage?

Because based on your reasoning a console made of quality components should be significantly more expensive than a handheld made of quality components, the only reason for the PS3 to be close to the price of a high quality handheld is if it is made of cheaper materials.

yeah well thats the thing. it doesnt last. they keep bringing out a new f***in console every few months and expect people to pay over £200 for it. they are out of their mind roght now thinking that in the current economic climate people are going to keep splashing out. and as for psp's that last, i have had more problems with my psp and more replacements than all of the other consoles i have owned put together.

Yea I always thought the PS3 is under-priced (specially since Sony keeps losing money for every unit sold). But comparing the PSPGo with similar handheld devices as Ipods, some cellphones and hanheld computers the price is actually reasonable since it offers many of the same functionalities and probably even more (like gaming).

Well I never had my PSP2000 broke on me and I have a few friends who had no problems with it either. I have actually never had any major problems with any Sony product before (not even my PS2), so, even if they are expenssive, I usually associate Sony with good quality.

Consumers are not going to pay near PS3 prices for a 16GB media player, at £200 the 160GB IPod is cheaper than this thing. You can argue the feature advantages and incorporating both into one device; but what sounds good on paper isn't necessarily successful in the shops.

All people will see is a PSP that costs as much as a PS3.

ok poit taken. i used to associate sony with quality but not since the start of this gen. obviously everone has differnet experiences. you may have not had any probs with psp, but i havent been as lucky. just like everyobdy seems to say "xbox 360s always get rrod", "they break every week", "360 is a poor quality piece of bull" - however i have had a 360 since launch and have never had any problems with it. so i think ms make good quality consoles but everyone has differing opinions.

The price is similar to the Ipod Touch with 16Gb or 32 Gb and it shares practically the same functionalities.

I gave up on Microsoft products a long time ago because I've had basically only bad experiences with them. It was a much more rewarding thing to learn how to use linux systems and making the switch than struggling with another MS product, so yea, I have no patience with MS but I see your point. It amounts to personal experiences.

Except of course the PSP does not have a touch screen, you are using the IPOD touch specifically to inflate the price. The normal IPOD is closer to what the PSP is doing (minus games of course) and as I said before offers significantly more storage for the price.

But yet again you are trying to use functionality to justify the price. People will not see this as an IPOD or ZUNE, it is a PlayStation Portable, a PSP at PS3 prices.

Well some of us will see as a multimedia handheld device like it is a multimedia gaming device. My reasoning goes at follows. My mom had a fridge that has lasted more than 25 years, the thing is still running perfectly (even better than some new ones) until now. That machine was more expenssive than most at the time but I'm sure most cheaper fridges don't even exist anymore. Companies now realize that most people go after cheap products rather than quality expensive products so now most of them just release products made with cheap materials that break easily. Many people actually think it is a better deal when they have to buy the same cheap thing every 5 years because it keeps breaking up rather than buying the expensive thing that would last 25 years. I perceive that Sony is one of the few companies who actually still deliver quality over quantity (despite some products that no doubt are built cheap like any other company does) so I respect that from them and I'm willing to keep buying from them (until I experience otherwise). PS. I realize a portable gaming device is very different from a fridge but the idea is the same.

I'm going to get it too to replace my PSP2000. I would also get the DS eventually to play with some friends.

for all you non-euro using folk 324 euro = 451 dollars

Holy ****! That's insane. What are the prices of consoles and the DSi in Euros? I don't the point of this. They say that is has the battery life of the current PSP, a smaller screen than the normal PSP, no UMD support and the old PSP supports all of the game download functionality. You can buy 16gb of memory sticks for less than the price increase. Why would you buy this over a regular PSP? Why on earth would you upgrade to this? You're "upgrading" to a dumbed down version.

You just sound like a fanboy rationalizing why it is ok to be ripped off by your brand of preference to me.

There is rationalizing higher quality and then there is paying over twice as much for a shrank PSP that does the same things as the cheaper models. Less in fact, this PSP lacks a disk drive and hence has to rely on digital distribution to get any games. That 16GB storage is needed to store games, it isn't there as a bonus for paying more.

Pricing shows just how deep in the crap Sony are. Having worked for a large corp, my guess is that the pricing is based around their "forcast" or Mid Term plan. When things start to go badly wrong executives can start to go into denial. Sure on the spreadsheet, this price, with X sales, means that the execs keep their job and make a bonus.

Just need to convince some dumb twits in marketing to launch at this price, we keep our jobs for another year, in the meanwhile we can be looking to jump ship to the next corporation..lawl.

Thing costs more than an X360/wiii/DS here. Sony are just beyond helping.

Your biggest competitor is the DS and it's sitting happy at a cheaper price point and double the sales of the PSP and Sonys answer to this? Up the price!

I could actually do a better job at running sony, on my own. One man running it all. On the other hand right now so could a chimp so that's not saying much.

Once again Sony messes up, The crazy price of the ps3 on launch in the UK, the servre lack of a price cut, the sheer bullheadedness to believe the the people in the UK will accept paying more!? Unless there is a massive price cut, ill will not by buying anything from Sony.

Don't worry guys, it's been fixed. Now it's only 250 euros, which would only be...$30 more than a 60gb Xbox360 here in Australia. :|

Which would you rather have? One of the best consoles of this gen or a reharshed version of a handheld.
