I know Pokemon is just as popular as Mario in sales I think it was the top seller on Game Boy Colour and GBAchocolate1325Correction, in sales Pokemon is even more popular I believe.

I don't know much about recen game sales, but overall, the Mario franchise sold m ore units than Pokemon. But again Mario is the top most sol franchise followed by Pokemon being second. Â

First they do make Pokem on cards and they are popular too.
Second, overall Pokemon is still popular. At least it's a game that the PSP will never match in sales.Â
PSP did well for Sony's first handheld. Not other handheld ever even touched DS, but PSP actually did a little damage before dying. So I don't care what happens now, PSP did pretty good in my books, first handheld ever to even have hope of tocuhing DS.psp is not dead and i think everyone knows its damage control and i'm guesing that it will drop another 20 a little bit after pokemon comes out
Good Job Sony. :DBut you better do a better job nexttime.  lilrush
Before we accept the future.. let us reminisce a little bitShakeNBake1491
That pic's really not all that old. If you want to remininsce, think back to the cloning glitch...ah, the good old red and blue version days.Â
Pokemon games will sell very very very well. People who think Pokemon handheld gaming is dead needs to check out a few things. I mean sure the non handheld RPGs don't sell as well as others (still the numbers are high). But when you get the next series out (in this case Diamond and Pearl) the numbers goes threw the roof. Lets take D/P for example. It's been out a little over 6 months, it has sold almost 5 million copies, and that's just in Japan. It's 5th on the list of top selling DS games (worldwide), broke 3 records, and is likely the best selling DS game(s) in Japan.
And yes, that's well and all. And as one person put it, Pokemon is like crack in Japan. But what about the US (the next place D/P is launching)? Lets just say that crack is being moved to the US as well. With being able to battle online, trade online, random battles, etc people will want to give D/P a shot. Pokemon D/P will sell well in the US, and will likely give it enough of a boost to make it top 3 or even to take the top spot. A Pokemon game will take the top spot for the DS, a Nintendo handheld has never been without a Pokemon game at the top of it's best selling list (discounting Tetris because it was a pack in for the GameBoy. I'm talking about sells).
Â
And will the PSP die after the launch of D/P? Will the DS get tons and tons of sells from the launch of D/P? Was the PSP price drop due to D/P?
No, the PSP won't die due to Pokemon D/P. The PSP will live or die due the games. If it keeps up with the bad games it is going to die, if they get some good ones out the PSP will live.
The DS will likely get a sells boost. People going out to buy a new DSLite, others waiting for Pokemon to come out before getting a DS, and so on. So I do think the DS sells will get a spike due to D/P.
And no, I don't think Sony let the PSP price down because of Pokemon. It's not getting the sells they want so they are lowering the price to get more sells. And it will work, the PSP sells numbers will go up.Â
Umm...why do people keep thinking that Pokemon is suddenly going to boost sales? Haven't we considered the idea that many of the people that will buy Pokemon already have the DS? I think the PSP price drop was just a long overdue thing that might have been coerced by the rumored retailer pressure.DrHyde

Tell that to the Japanese. They had plenty of DS as it stood yet sold an insane amount of DSs with the new Pokemon.
Yup...the day Pokemon launched in Japan, over 500,000 DSs were sold...
And whats even scarier is that the US almost always buys more Pokemon than Japan in the long run...and Europe isnt that far behind either of them
Yeah I remember that this is jsut insane. 500k DS sold in ONE day in ONE single country. + like 2 million pokemon gmes.Yup...the day Pokemon launched in Japan, over 500,000 DSs were sold...

It probably won't boost sales in North America. The DS has the most units sold in Japan but North America has the lowest DS units sold (Europe is in the middle). While its the exact opposite for the PSP in which does pretty good in the US but not so good elsewhere.
Will Pokemon sell good in North America? Probably. Will it sell as much as it did in Japan? Probably not.
