PSP vs DS (I own Both)

The PSP is great but it only gets great after alot of money, here is the essentials for a PSP.

1)   Case, you have to have a case for the PSP no traveling with out it, and make sure it has some decent room for UMD's

2)   USB cable, and car adapter, if your going to play in the car

3)   1 or more 1 GB or larger memory sticks, (need to be able to fit music & videos on it).

4)   Several UMD games, forget the movies, however to expensive!

5)   Good pair of headphones.

 With all those accessories the PSP becomes a compentent portable entertainment system. However the problem with the PSP as a portable entertainment system is this. 1) It's a decent media player, but other media players are just so much better, Ipods, have playlists, and the likes, the PSP is a bit clumsy when it comes to media playback, and is incovience, to use sometimes. PSP does play some good games, but you can find most on the PS2, and on the PS2 they naturally play better, bigger screen, better graphics. The PSP could be a serious contender, if they would put some unique software on this thing. The hardware is far superior to the DS, but the software sucks compared to the DS.

 The DS accessories so far are as follows

1)   Headphones

2)   Games

 The DS's clamshell design eliminates the absolute need for a case, it also runs longer per charge so you can ditch alot of charging options, the games play smother becuse of the cartridge based media. The software feels unique and well suited for mobile gaming, and is different from full sized console fair.

DS does what it does best. Handheld gaming. PSP, though a good entertainment device, completely fails as a handheld console.

I love the PSP and I really want to get one. Much better overall value. Better looking games, movies, music ... you can't beat it for $170 bucks. I used to own a DS and while it is pretty nice, it's too small and the games are not that great. No sports games and it's a kiddie console in my eyes. I love Nintendo do don't think I am bashing them. I just wish they would do more with the DS. JDW_games

I feel the opposite, all I see on the PSP are watered down PS2 ports, the DS at least has original fun games, and for movies and music I have an Ipod video so why do I need a PSP

Well the funny thing is I have a psp and all the games are remakes and ports. I'll list them  sims 2, megaman maverick hunter x, star wars battle front 2, marvel ultimate alliance, marvle nemesis, and spider man 2. Then I have about 3games that aren't ports.

Well if you look at the PSP's game, they're all the same things you can get on the PS2, Tekken, MGS, tons of sports games, socom, etc. that there is nothing original, I mean I own a PS2, why wouldn't I play those games there, with the DS it has great games that cannot be found on the consoles, elite beat agents, hotel dusk, Nintendogs, Pheonix Wright, etc.

The stats I posted didn't include multiplatform games as ports, otherwise you could claim that the DS is also full of them.
The only one for sure I know is a port in the list that you gave is Megaman... and maybe Sims2, the rest are multiplats.

OK, enough with this "ALL/MOST psp games are ports" crap,  the psp has overall 245 games, and as you can clearly see from mahjustin's post ..only  26% of the 117 highest rated psp games are ports.  And only  23% of all  the 245 are PORTS.

Like I said, another killzone game, another couple of MG games, a ripoff of Advance wars, etc. those alsong with sports and racers are what make up the majority of the PSP lineup, yes there are a few new IPs and original stuff, but those are the minority by far, the DS on the other hand has a bunch of original stuff

If you are going to argue like that, why don't I just say stuff like Nintendogs is a Tamagotchi ripoff? Phoenix Wright games were ALL PORTS from the GameBoy Advance? The only thing you have left are Elite Beats and Hotel Dusk, pretty much everything else can be found on another console or is a port. Well if you look at the PSP's game, they're all the same things you can get on the PS2, Tekken, MGS, tons of sports games, socom, etc. that there is nothing original, I mean I own a PS2, why wouldn't I play those games there, with the DS it has great games that cannot be found on the consoles, elite beat agents, hotel dusk, Nintendogs, Pheonix Wright, etc.

Oh and I suppose Lumines (at the time), Killzone: Liberation, Daxter, Field Commander, Tokobot, Loco Roco, Exit, Metal Gear Acid 1 and 2, etc. can be found on other consoles?

Like I said, another killzone game, another couple of MG games, a ripoff of Advance wars, etc. those alsong with sports and racers are what make up the majority of the PSP lineup, yes there are a few new IPs and original stuff, but those are the minority by far, the DS on the other hand has a bunch of original stuff
