PSV VS. 3DS: The Showdown

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard of the newly announced Playstation Vita, and the recently released Nintendo 3DS. These two gaming powerhouses are promising to give us a good portable showdown, but which will win?

*please note I'm a Sony fanboy, but I do own a 3DS

Let's go back to 2004, the DS and the PSP were about to go head to head in a brawl that everyone was sure belonged to Sony, everyone believed Sony would continue on riding the wave of the PS2 and take down Nintendo once and for all...

The PSP sold 70 Million Units...

The DS sold 130 Million...

When the dust settled, Nintendo stood triumphantly over the gazilion dollar company that was Sony Computer Entertainment.

Flash-Forward, Present day, now Nintendo manufactures the best-selling home game console, handheld gaming faces a serious threat from smartphones and the 3DS is much higher priced than before.

Both the 3DS and the PSV have the same price tag, but the PSV holds more advanced hardware inside its plastic shell, making it look like the winner on paper. The 3DS has nothing remotely approaching approaching a good game aside from Zelda 3D and Street Fighter IV.

The PSV has a multi-gazilion dollar company behind it, not to mention the titles the fans WANT TO BUY, here let me go through a list...

Wipeout 2048, Uncharted, ModNation, LBP, Call of Duty...

Gee, I wonder why it's so hard to do this with the 3DS...

Not to jinx it or anything, but the PSV looks like the winner*

I believe the PSV LOOKS like a winner, but its too early to tell. I'll wait till more games are announced or when the Vita comes out.

It's Important to note that sonyites expect the handheld to cost more, because its aimed at a 20+ year old, the 20-Something would have more money to spend on it, whereas the 3DS costs the same but is aimed at 6 year olds who don't have that kinda money.

which would explain why the $99 DS Lite is outselling the $249 3DS 2 to 1

I love my 3DS but It is way to early to say. The both offer differnent experiances and so far it is looking like that if you have one it does not meany you would have no reason to buy the other.

I didn't think I would want a new handheld after buying the PSP. However the Vita has me drooling. So much awesome, so little price, especially compared to my damn cellphone.

I would be willing to bet that the Vita's launch will be the same, if not worse than the 3DSs. Sony has a terrible reputation of horrible launches.

what i mean to say is that these are basically "mini" versions of games that are available on the PS3. outside of Sound Shapes, there are few truly original games on display for the Vita. don't get me wrong it sounds fantastic, but for PS3 owners like myself it just doesn't seem to be that big of a deal outside of its price.

Hasnt pilotwings been doing well? I agree to wait until the launch to say anything because how are we sure that the experiences of games like uncharted are going to transfer over to handhelds? Nintendo has already shown how their main franchises can transfer over successfully to the handheld systems.
