PSVR is a flop; Microsoft could hold the key

Sony is desperately trying to push VR in our faces by introducing PSVR. From personal experience, I can tell you PSVR is a waste of time and money. It is not ready for mainstream consumption, but $ony will do anything they can to earn an extra buck. The games selection is not getting enough 3rd party support, so Sony will have to force on us some 1st party rehashes.

Microsoft on the other hand is carefully trying to integrate VR into their gaming experience by introducing VR headsets at each Microsoft store and carefully evaluating the individual consumer experience. Microsoft brought us Kinect, which was a massive success. Kinect 2 did not perform as well due to negative press, but it was equally unique.

Nintendo is out of the game, so I won't mention them.

What say you? Can Microsoft save the VR day by brining us some revolutionary hardware?

Meh. I really don't think VR is going to be the next big thing for gaming. I think it can be fun and cool initially but I think ultimately it'll just kind of drift off. Personally I think AR has a stronger future.

How can a flop be a success? PSVR hasn't even sold half of their projections, from 6 months ago! And look at metacritic. The average PSVR game is rated 67. Ouch.

A console needs a good stable of AAA exclusives before dabbling in the VR relm. Im still waiting on the Japanese games after Phils Japan trip. I guess they are being careful in the area too.

Even though Microsoft is the best company to really push VR and have more partners than the joke PSVR, VR will still not be the forefront for gaming as it will come and go. I mean if phones, which almost every one have can't even push VR to go mainstream and stay there, I don't think anything can. So while yes MS can do VR way better than Sony could ever do, it still won't change the fact VR will come and go.

I will agree that the only thing selling me on PSVR is RE7, but it's selling better then the rest.

MS "mixed reality" or whatever they call it will likely do better overall because their platform is available for use by other manufacturers. That means multiple manufacturers using a common platform that devs can develop for and release for all of those systems. But... VR still hasn't got that killer app yet.

Lol no bro, VR is a gimmick and Ms doesn't need to save it, revive it or use it. No One wants it on PC, PlayStation and no one will want it on Xbox. Maybe in another 20 years VR will rear its ugly head yet again and try to take over the world.

All Sony has to do to shut this shit down is get a bunch of Japanese PSVR support. That being said, I do think it would be a good thing if MS was willing to invest in VR as a platform. I'm skeptical because of how the XBox One itself has been treated so far, though.

1 million sold in 6 months is a pretty floppy number for a Sony product, tbh. At that rate it would take over 6 years to outsell the Wii U at 12 million. And the Wii U only took 4 years to hit 12 million, and it was considered a flop..

It's a premium product, considering its hefty price and requires a PS4 as well.

While it's fair to give MS points for having demos, and testing interest. even if they did a kinect marketing push for VR, and even if they get Occulus AND Vive on board, let alone their own, it will likely do better than PSVR but the end result will not be long-term. It'll likely hit a wall at 1.2 million like how PS4 hit a wall at 700,000

People are acting like early sales mean anything. Word will get around that it's a piece of junk with no real games to support it then the sales will tank. So the Kinect was also a success right? I'm not against the idea of VR being the future but PSVR is fake VR. Low resolution, low framerate, low latency, etc...there's a reason why it's half the price of the ones you get on PC.
