PUBG Arrives on Consoles

Mega hit of the year PlayerUnknown's battlegrounds has finally made its way to consoles, arriving on Xbox Game Preview

This is of course early access, the official 1.0 release is only on PC this month

How it looks on X1X, it's locked at 30fps

Quite fun overall, once you know what to do(which isn't complicated), played a few solo matches had some laughs. I love how you can hear footsteps from far away, someone coming into the house I looted could hear him open the door.....recommend playing with headphones if your sound system isn't that great

This game is NOT a looker at all, not even slightly and it still runs subpar. Amazing.

I just wish they would do away with the locked 30fps on consoles. Let us use the power that's available to us (I got the Xbox one x). They don't lock the fps on pc (everyone has different cpus and graphics cards) so I don't understand why they feel the need to restrict console users who have the power to run the game even better.

I guess I'll hold out hope for some cross play with pc users. I would love some mouse and keyboard support from developers going forward, the consoles are basically turnkey pcs anyways. It might split the user base a little bit but this game will have more than enough players to support the split, plus imho I believe more and more people will make the switch to mouse and keyboard controls for their first person shooter games once they see how much better those controls are for that genre.

Plus they're absolutely aiming for e-sports with this game so it makes even more sense to implement those pc controls on consoles

yeah, a few things I took away from the vid...

• Running on Xbox One X
• 30fps target
• Mid to High settings
• lots of graphical pop-in/up glitches
• Fails to maintain 30fps with a lot of frame rate drops.

For an unfinished game that graphically looks like something from Max Payne running on 360 from last gen, with lots of pop-up, not able to maintain 30fps and all on Xbox one X...I'd say that $30 is still a bit steep.

@duane33319: From reports I've seen it doesn't even hit 30fps consistently. Going against PC players would be a massacre.

@creepywelps: what im saying is forget running games like this at 4k on consoles for now, if they could get the XBX version to run at 1080p/60 fps (which I believe the XBX has the power to do that) , give us mouse and keyboard controls and then let us cross play with pc, I think that would be awesome and surely a doable task for any dev worth their salt.

Picking it up. I have some Bing reward points that will cover a large portion of the purchase.

The game has optimization issues on PC, but is just shit on console.

@creepywelps: you think so? Why not? I think it could definitely achieve 1080/60, here's my reasoning. Take battlefield 4 and its 64 player conquest mode, i know its not the same game, but i feel they are similar and according to eurogamer and digital foundry the original xbox one was was running that game at 720p and 40-50 fps. Don't forget that game had destructible environments, planes and vehicles too plus 64 players on a huge map, all constantly respawning. If they og xbox could do all that at 720/40-50fps, why cant the XBX which is about 5 times more powerful run pubg at 1080/60fps. With the proper dev time I think it's achievable.

Its a excellent game, anyone with a Xbox should get it. Its by far the most fun I have had in a MP game in a very very long time.

@duane33319: For starters you're talking about 2 completely different engines. 2nd the game is already heavily CPU bound, so taking it from 4k to 1080 would just put more stress on a processor that is already choking. 60 fps was a pipe dream that will never happen.

Bluehole is still a small dev though. I don't know any other games that use UE4 and attempt a massive scale other than Ark........and well......Ark, lol.

@creepywelps: I hear you it's 2 different engines, but then that leaves me to believe it comes down to the devs and and how good they are with their engine which is basically what ive been saying from the start. And maybe I just don't know enough about game developing but how is going DOWN from 4k to 1080 MORE taxing on the cpu. That makes no sense.

@duane33319: it's not, it's more taxing on the CPU. The higher is res you go the more gpu bound a game becomes. The problem obviously is caused by the GPU in this game, it's more than enough, it's the completely gimped CPUs that are in these consoles that will hold them back.

Cant wait till this weekend to jump on, just pushed install from my phone. Hopefully they add in some other modes. Seeing some team based modes like hostage rescue, vip escort ala Socom would be awesome.

Why do people play shooters on console? If I was left in a room with a gun and a console with only shooting games on it, I'd use the gun on myself.

KB+M controls like a Lamborghini. Analog sticks control like a tractor. It's a torturous experience playing a shooter on a console. The 30 fps and input lag from all the post-processing effects on the TV make it feel like driving a tractor through mud, uphill.

@duane33319: 30fps is for early access. 60fps is still possible on x1x for full release. MS wont hold them back for parity with xbox one/s. Ive been following a lot of MS people on twitter and it def sounds x1x will get bumped to 60fps once it goes gold.
