PUBG Tops 2 Million Concurrent Players

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) has topped 2 million concurrent users, continuing to crush its own records and the previous record of 1.3 Million held by DotA 2

The rise and rise of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds continues. Last month it smashed the Steam record for the most concurrent players, surpassing Dota 2's previous best of 1.3 million, and today it hit an even bigger milestone: 2 million concurrent users. Staggering.

The Early Access battle royale shooter hit 2,016,498 players earlier today, according to Steam's official stats page. Just under 14 million players are on Steam right now (and today's peak will likely be just above that), which basically means that one in seven users on the platform are locked into PUBG.

I'll check it out on Xbox One X, but I wasn't too impressed with Battle Royale in Fortnite.

While FortniteBR is based on the same game mode, they don't play the same

Im pumped to try this game out on my x1x when it drops, really happy that MS went out and made it happen. Since Sony abandoned Socom, been looking for nice third person shooter on console.

yea it should scratch a similar itch to SOCOM, the feel of the gunplay is reminiscent of ARMA so its pretty tactical

A lot of my coworkers are playing this, and with only a $30 pricetag, it's pretty reasonable. Doesn't surprise me to see its popularity growing.

I would never touch an awful game. The fact it is going to Xbox One says everything about its quality.

Yeah, the whole Battle Royale thing doesn't even feel right with Fortnite.

I agree it doesn't look too appealing.

I guess if you have a hard on for the whole survivor aspect, some people might find it to be kind of a thrill.

Looking forward to trying it out later.....hopefully this huge success doesn't go to the dev's head, and they remain focused on improving the experience. By comparison, these figures appear astronomical. I was curious about the smash-hit Rocket League, that game reached 220K players at some point across all platforms(which made headlines), and on Steam I think the highest concurrent was 102K (if my quick googling research skills are on point!).

it's not a survival game in the sense of DayZ or ARK. It's basically a giant deathmatch, but you only have the weapons and armor that you can find on the map

It's pretty fun, and probably going to be the next big thing when on consoles. Like most PC genres end up being.

That’s a whole lotta people. I’ll check this game out myself when it comes out on the Xbox One and while I think I’ll have fun with it for a little while I don’t think that it’ll be something that will hook me long term.

I'm glad i jumped on the bandwagon early. The influx of new players is making getting kills/wins alot easier.

Hope they release the new desert map sometime next month. The stock map is getting a little stale (i've looted every city, used every car, used every gun). Need something fresh or i'll probably stop playing around thanksgiving time.

Same. I enjoyed the Culling better than Fortnite Battle Royale mode. It's purely luck IMO in Battle Royale mode in Fortnite.

@Archangel3371: Same , most games don't hook me long term because I like to play different games preferably solo but (off topic) Battle Front II has hooked me in int the beta. Don't know if PUBG will do the same. Though I have a feeling PUBG only hooks you in if you play with friends.

PUBG certainly is more fun with friends. Only time I play solo is if I'm waiting for a group of friends to finish their game so I can join in. Solo for me is just to mess around and have fun in.

Tell you what, I have not had this much fun playing a game in a long time.

Playing SOLO is very fun, but squad play is where it's at. Teamwork is absolutely essential. This game seriously gets my hands sweating and my heart racing. Kinda crazy when a TPS/FPS is packed full of unscripted jump-scares. I think PUBG will be held responsible if I have a heart attack.

Battle Royale trend has just started and we've seen nothing of what it has in store yet.

Save your disdain for when we have more than 3 buggy, unfinished games in this new subgenre.

I wonder what the next trend will be, first it was survival craft games like Minecraft, then apocalypse style survival PvP+PvE with DayZ, and now it is battle royale survival with games like PUBG and The Culling.

Pretty much. Concurrent player numbers like that aren't unheard of in China. The highest I've seen is for CrossFire, which has over 8 million concurrent players, with at least more than half of that from China alone.
