How many of this gens games would make it into your top10 of all time list?
For a gen that went on for so long...it really isnt that many for me.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
gaming 10 years isn't a ton longer than this gen has been happening, but still a good question. I have been gaming for almost 20 years.
2 games this gen break my top 10. Uncharted 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4.
lots of them.
maybe all.
sure there are classics and i loved them at the time but nostalgia is mostly bullshyt.
i would play ace combat 6 online (or almost anything from this gen) over anything that came out on the 2600, intellivision, nes, snes, ps1, ps2, dreamcast ect ect ect.
everytime i play some old game i can't believe i ever liked it.
hell i bought ico/sotc collection and thought it was the worst money i have spent in a long time and that was frikkin ico/sotc collection, two of the most beloved games ever made.
I'd definitely consider putting Batman Arkham City and Donkey Kong Country Returns on such a list. Those two were just about as perfect as it got last gen.
None. To break my top 10, a game needs to have a profound impact on my tastes, and have unlimited lasting appeal. No game this gen got me that absorbed in it.
It is tough to recapture that imagination you had as a youngster.... everything was so new and fresh, and you had all the time in the world to dive fully into your games...
... that being said. I am sure the Fallouts (3 & NV) and the Souls (demons and dark) games deserve a spot on the list of top games ever.
Okay I forgot, CD4, Modern Warfare; the original and only one I could remotely put on this list. This generation, Uncharted 2, Arkham Assylum, GT6, Mass Effect 2, BF3 and maybe even WOW. These games I know for sure I played a long time and left a big impact on me.

Probably less than in the last gen, and probably more than in the gen before it.
I don't have a definite top 10 (constantly changes), but I'd probably say of this gen: Metal Gear Solid 4, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Team Fortress 2 are candidates, among a number of others.
hmm... maybe 2 or 3.
I would say that the likely games would be:
The Witcher
Deus Ex: Human revolution
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (maybe 1)
Runner ups: (outstanding games that will not be included)
STALKER series
Fallout 3/NV
Oblivion/Skyrim (yeah I do see the theme)
Demons' souls.
Dead Space
Amnesia (both)
Most of the games of this gen have been retreads of older games, and as such they did not really impress me much, basicly this gen was "Ooh look at this game which was like that other game you liked, just with better graphics, physics and sound... Oh and way easier, less soul, more shallow, and a fear to make anyone angry.
It certainly is not that there has not been released good games, and everyone have different genres and games they like, so the above would be my picks, not something universal. All in all I have been rather dissapointed in this gen. Mainly because they failed to push games further, in alot of ways it feels like they took moretehn one step back.
Now there IS something to be said for the crafting of newer games, sometimes the overall amount of parts does not make up for how well they fit together, and this gen had some surprisingly simple and typical games that were made with such care that they "felt" right. I am the first to admit that DE:HR is in no way special, but man the games mechanics felt pretty darn right, and in good context.
Quite a few actually. Whether or not you want to admit it, gaming has come quite a long way this gen and on the whole the games are better.

Have not played TLOU yet. I really need to.
Technically BF4 is part of this gen, and I KNOW it is gong to be in my top 10, since BF3 is and it will be better.
I've been gaming for over 30 years, and the games of this gen that would qualify in my Top 10 of all time would include;
Mass Effect trilogy
Batman Arkham games
Tomb Raider (2013)
Assassin's Creed
The Witcher 2
Skyrim
Deus Ex HR
Alan Wake

holly hell. you liked this gen THAT much? too many other masterpieces in other gens. Super Metroid, Ocarina of Time, Resident Evil 4, Super Mario 64, Diablo II.
For me? My gaming covered anything from the arcades of the late 70's to the present and included both consoles and computers (from Amiga to PC). The Mass Effect series would likely have a place. The Uncharted series? Maybe. SMG? Maybe. Flight simulator X? Sure. Heck. FSX is still being sold retail even though MS dropped its developer.
I can't really speak for 360 exclusives since I don't have a 360.
Been gaming since 1986...
Fallout New Vegas is the only one, Batman AC, Walking Dead and TF2 are close and some of the wonderful indie games like 7 days to die, prison architect and minecraft have been great to.
But in all honesty I cant really say now, I will have to wait till down the road to see if any of this gens best games make it into my top 10 list of all time.
The only advances I've seen are graphical. I prefer plot and entertainment over graphics. Just my opinion thoughQuite a few actually. Whether or not you want to admit it, gaming has come quite a long way this gen and on the whole the games are better.

Oh boy. I started gaming on the NES when I was 5 or 6. It's tough making a choice for my favorite games of all time from this gen. I guess I would choose:\
1. Metal Gear Solid 4
2. Dark Souls/Demon's Souls (Possibly Dark Souls 2...most likely even)
3. Uncharted 2
4. FTL (Yes an indie game)
5. Journey
6. Kerbal Space Program
That's all I can think of.

Are you counting indies and mid-sized developers? That is where most of the good stuff comes from and where I would recommend looking. We get games like Amnesia, Bastion, Dark Souls, Drakensang: River of Time, E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy, Fallout: New Vegas, Killing Floor, Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer, Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, Mount & Blade: Warband, STALKER SoC and CoP, Serious Sam 3, Shadowrun Returns, Torchlight 2, Trine, Trine 2, and the Walking Dead. In fact, these last few years I've been swimming in quality titles that are mostly well designed and don't have a lot of the stupid things that plagued games in older gens.
