Just got out of the cave I see? you missed a lot my good sir. Allow me to educate you with current events.
360 sits at a comfortable 2nd place and PS3 and its fanboys struggle to find any victory they can to make their market position less unbearable.
The truth is that the 360 is only ahead of the PS3 because it came 1 year before the PS3(that's a pretty huge advantage). More the less sales are like this right now:
PS3 (2 year old console)21 million, 360 (3 year old console)29million so in average per year the PS3 has been selling more than the 360, the PS3 at 2 years has higher than the 360 in 2 years time. Considering the PS3 has been selling for 400-600$ while the 360 has been 400-200$ all this time. To me the PS3 is 2nd and the 360 is 3rd because it has been selling more. Saying the 360 is winning is like comparing the PS2 sales with the sales of the 360. Of course the PS2 is at 120million because it has been out for 9 years same thing applies for PS3 vs 360.Though I don't expect things to stay at 8million margin, with the release of K2, GT5 and GoW3 + a 100$-200$ price cut, the PS3 could easily outsell the 360 2 to 1 or 3 to 1. So in a year or 2 the PS3 would be ahead. It would be a huge humiliation for MS not being able to beat Sony again. It's called brand power.

it may not be fair but we count the extra year. its business.
Besides, we all know MS had to combat Sony brand power in Europe. And it largely has succeeded there. And I find your opinion lacking a MS plan........god knows they can counter whatever Sony is gonna do.
This is my quick answer (yes, Wikipedia numbers):
PS3: 21.3 million units by February 20, 2009.
360: 27.9 million units by January 14, 2009 (31% more than PS3, for a total of about 6.6 million units ahead).
Other stuff to consider: 360's year advantage, 360's high failure rates, Global Recession hitting harder than expected on Japan, Microsoft being finnancially more strong that Sony at the moment, 360's broader advertisement, PS3's Blu-Ray reading design boosting & crippling sales at the same time, PS2 still in the market...

Well the 360 number was taken almost a month b4 the PS3 date.
Make both of them Feb 20th, and I think the gap would be a little over 7 million.

I can't agree with this argument at all. When you come out, brand power etc don't matter. 360 started this generation first but it still has to be compared to all the consoles equally. It is not MS' fault Sony andNintendo waited a year the 360 had been out to launch. Regardless of whether the PS3 is selling more units per day than the 360 it is still behind and at this rate, by the time it catches up we'll be in a new gen. The time argument with the PS2 isn't a good one, a 9 year difference is obviously bigger than a 1 year difference. As the wii demonsrates, it isn't impossible to make up a 1 year difference. If the Wii could do it some how, the PS3 gets no time crutch. The totals tell me microsoft is second, the software sales tell me microsoft is second, I don't know what you are looking at but you don't compare sales based on time periods to determine a winner. Gotta get some advantage with launching first after all. Also, I really hope you don't think the PS3 is going to double or triple the 360's sales in any place not named japan, that's just crazy.

Hey MS did exactly what Sony did last gen, beat them to market. Sony ran away with it last gen. Nintendo beat them both by including my grandparents' social security cash as a target.[QUOTE="Hitman533"]

Im confused how you are aloud to use numbers in your advantage, but cows cant use it to theirs. You say market share counts but time in market doesn't. Does that mean if PS3 surpasses xbox 360 in sales eventually it wont count because the next gen has started? Thats kinda like saying the PS2 has lost because it is last gen even though games are still made for it. A console'ss sales cannot be excluded until it loses support from developers. You lems spin numbers any way you can for your advantage, but logically the ps3 can win. Everthing you guys say affects the company and not the game so its almost completely irrevelant to a gamer discussions anyway. You act like its amazing how xbox 360 games always sell great, but you also refuse to mention how the console itself can affect sales. Lems always have the advantage with numbers, until someone smart points out the small bits that change affect those numbers. Its kinda like your stuck in grade 1 math and grade 2 math makes your results sound less amazing than they really are.[QUOTE="ActicEdge"][QUOTE="Hitman533"]

Its kinda like your stuck in grade 1 math and grade 2 math makes your results sound less amazing than they really are.I laugh at the fact you think I'm a lemming. Anyway, cows can use numbers to their advantages when they actually are in there advantage. Market share is all that matters, you don't just throw away a yeat advantage because the poor PS3 can't make up ground. If the PS3 surpasses the 360 but next gen has already started, it really isn't much of an accomplishment. It will still surpassed it but all the support will move to the new consoles so the PS3 sales won't really be relevant in that moment in time. The PS2 has like no support from developers, and I mean serious developers at this point in time, it doesn't needit. Its time is up, it utterly dominated its generation no if and or buts about it but its on life support right now since the developers have moved on. I don't understand what I've spun, the 360 was the first next gen cnsole to launch, its advantage is the year of etra support, you can't just disregard it because the PS3 is behnd. I laugh at how we are now talking about gamers not being affected, this is a sales thread so I'll discuss sales here, games are irrelevant to this thread. The 360 sells sofware like a beast, what lie is in there? The console is selling fine unless you want to grasp for japan, what's your point? The fact is, no cow can use numbers to there advantage since they just don't exist outside of Japan. Ha, the shot at my math skills was funny though so high fives all around, I lol'd at the silliness of that statement.
