we all are, hell 19-20 is 'old' in the gamign world full of 12-13 year old kids, that have no respect for the truely old gamers (several of my friends on xbl are 30+)

edit:notsaying 30 is 'old' in reality, but in the gaming world it is

Same here, when I was a kid, I had plenty of time with no money.... NOw I got the money and not nearly enough time.

Zandeus

I hear you man! We're stuck in the old catch 22 I'm afraid. As a kid I would blow so much time in arcades (SF2, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, King of Fighters, TMNT, X Men, Captain America, etc.), at the local college's computer lab playing LAN games (Rise of the Triad, Terminal Velocity, C&C, Duke3d, Total Annihilation, UT, Quake 3) or at home with my NES, SNES, or Genesis. You could blowentire weekendsplaying through any number of RPG's back then (LttP, FF6, Chrono Trigger).

Even when I went to college I blew lots of time playing SSBM, Halo, and many other games with my friends.

Now that I have a job, I have the money for any game I want, just no time. It sucks. But there's not anything out right now that I absolutely HAVE to have... yet. There's a lot of cool games on the horizon though... this fall is going to be bananas!

I honestly think old games are 1000x better than new ones. And Super Mario Bros. for the NES was the first game I ever played.

honestly, if games went back to 2d platformers, ide be fine with that, devs need to remember their history, story and gameplay, graphics should be 4th place, and the most important thing they need tofocus on is fun

I remember Christmas of 1985 (I was 8 ) and getting my NES. I had actually peeked in the package and knew I was getting it a few weeks before christmas. I had dreams of playing against the included robot in the package. Much to my dismay the robot actually did nothing except excel at sucking.

I would love to include 1999... but then again that would be 6 years and not a nice symmetrical 5. :P

Here is 1999...

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, Mario Party, EverQuest, RollerCoaster Tycoon, Super Smash Bros., Homeworld, Heroes of Might and Magic III, Descent 3, Counter-Strike (original PC MOD), System Shock 2, Final Fantasy VIII, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Soul Calibur, Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings, Jet Force Gemini, Unreal Tournament, Quake III Arena, Planescape: Torment...

indeed the days when games actually made you question if you were transcending time. when everything still felt new and fresh, when one would spend hours grinding in dragon warrior just to get enough gold to buy that awesome new axe

it's like how PC games have higher standards. well we older gamers have had standards increasing as well. I used to love games like contra and lifeforce. now they bore me. i can't even play most arcade games without getting bored.

My standards are at a point that not much will really impress me. everything has been an evolution and most of the old games don't really stand the test of time. sure they can be fun but not really memorable because i've seen a million variations of the same story and game. I think the only games that i really find memorable in recent years are the ones that had great stories that made me feel something.

Well im gonna be 36 this year..Im oldschool..I still have my original Atari 2600 and every system up to now. I have around 1400 games too....I have been an ARCADE rat back in the days and still to this day play everyone of my consoles.

I remember the first game I ever beat was Asteroids for the Atari 2600. You had to flip the score...crazy fun. Then the next game I remember beating was Super Mario for NES at 5:30 in the morning...lol..I will never forget all my old games.

Im lucky to be married to a great woman that supports my gaming passions and buys me things all the time. Plus I have passed on my gaming adiction to my 2 boys.

It has been a fantastic way to spend spare time between work, kids, wife, workingout, and such.......Thanks goes out to all the game developers and Arcade manchines.....Peace.

I grew up on Life Force, Contra, Megaman 2, Double Dragon, River City Ransom.

I find the progression games to be amazing and with each new generation we get new and better versions of things... but not always. It's not like there weren't bad games in the 80s and early 90s. The only thing I regret with technology is the loss of side scrolling shooters and beatemups.
